Hello all,
I am new to the land of Free-form RP, but am an old hand at pen-and-paper games and have been a DM (D&D primarily, with some Star Wars D20 thrown in for kicks) for about 10 years. I tried FFRP close to 20 years ago in AOL chat rooms, but they were a mess and I had no idea what I was doing. This seems like a fun endeavor, and I thought I'd explore a little further.
A bit about the person behind the keyboard: I used to be in theatre, and was a costumer/stage manager. Getting paid work was an awful ordeal, so I switched gears, got another degree and am now a Children's Librarian for one of the biggest Public Library systems in the US. I do a number of awesome things at my job, one of which is running a gaming program in which I and another librarian teach/play with teens. We do several types of gaming, from MTG & Yu-Gi-Oh! (the teen's choice, not mine), to Munchkin, to D&D. We have grand dreams of one day playing something a bit more involved, like Carcassone or something, and to one day have the teens start their own RPG campaigns. But we're not there yet.
I've loved Star Wars for as long as I can remember. I've read many of the EU/Legends books and comics, in addition to watching most, if not all, of the movies and tv shows. I have always had a weakness for Jedi and scoundrels, thanks to Luke and Han. My favorite Jedi as a teen was Corran Horn, and have developed a fondness for Quinlan Voss in the newer material, though I admittedly do not know as much about him as the Rebellion/GA/NJO characters.
I do have one question before diving in, and it pertains to Character Creation. I have read the stickies, but I just want to clarify: are the specific guidelines to creating a character, a la D&D or SW D20? Or is it more narrative? Do I need to roll stats, or just describe his general abilities?
Many thanks!
May harmony find you,
Jasand
