Greetings—
I am Master Saa'liss, Jedi historian and one of the last surviving members of our noble Order. In light of recent events in our galaxy, I have decided to undertake the daunting task of providing a historical record tracing the conflict our galaxy presently finds itself embroiled in back to its roots. It is my hope that such a record will help provide insight into the state of our galaxy in these tumultuous times and give us a glimpse into what may lie ahead.
I have chosen to begin with the event that first inspired me to begin compiling this record: the rumors of rebel cells that have begun to appear and oppose the Sith Empire's dominion over the galaxy and the revelation that the Jedi Order is not as extinct as the Sith would have the rest of the galaxy believe.
The reign of the Empire succeeded in bringing an end to the wars of that era. But despite the peace that the Sith Empress Andraste brought in the wake of her conquest of the galaxy, not everyone was happy to accept the rule of the galaxy's new Sith overlords. Citizens in the Republic grumbled about the authoritarian regime that had overthrown their democratic government without their consent. To placate these citizens, as well as prevent riots and wholesale revolt, the Sith Empress allowed the Senate to continue existing, though, secretly, she stripped it of its governing powers so as to give the illusion of democracy while retaining sole governing power for herself.
It is here, in these early moments, that I believe the first seeds of rebellion against the Sith Empire are planted. These seeds are allowed to sprout and grow over the next five centuries as Sith rule increasingly became more authoritarian. For instance, though the first Sith Empress, Andraste, was adamantly anti-slavery due to her experience with the Hutts, successive generations of Sith rulers were not so progressive. Eventually, the influence of the Zygerrians, the Sith species, and the Hutts prevailed and entire worlds were enslaved to fuel the Sith Empire's continued expansion and advancement.
And, so, for five centuries, we have stayed hidden, bid our time, and waited for the right moment to emerge. The Sith believe the rumors of our continued survival to be farce and superstition. But we are here. We are alive and well. Some of us at the helm of the various rebel cells that have appeared throughout the galaxy—others still in quiet exile, waiting for the moment the galaxy needs us to take up our lightsabers again. A moment, I believe, that is fast approaching.
But we are not the only voices of dissent against the Empire's reign, nor are we the only ones to see our culture and history slowly erased by Sith oppression. Ironically, the Mandalorians—who were once the vanguards of the Sith assault against the Jedi Order five centuries ago—now chance open rebellion or risk extinction themselves. The roots of their relationship to the Jedi, the Sith, and to the conflict currently embroiling our galaxy will be the subject of my next report...
Introducing the Jedi Order and Rebellion Faction!
For the eighth timeline, the Rebels and the Jedi will be a single faction. Because of the virtual extermination of the Jedi Order during the timeline of The First Sith, the Jedi will start small. Only a few player characters (PCs)— a maximum of five (5) decided upon by the Rebellion Faction Leader—will start out the timeline as Jedi. In the spirit of the Original Trilogy era of Star Wars, those Force-sensitive PCs who wish to become Jedi will need to seek out the survivors and learn the ways of the Jedi from them with the goal of restoring the Jedi Order to its former glory!
The rebels themselves are a ragtag group of freedom fighters from all walks of life—former Imperials, Republic loyalists, Jedi sympathizers, criminals, and even some extremists—who want to see the galaxy free of the oppression of the Sith Empire by whatever means!
