JAKT UTLANNING

FACTION: Jedi Order
RANK: Jedi Knight
SPECIES: Onderonian Human
AGE: 45
GENDER: Male
FORCE SENSITIVE: Ex Beast-Lord of Onderon, trained in the art of communicating with animals and other minor abilities but not in the proper ways of the Jedi.

APPEARANCE:
Jakt looks far older than he is, and performs younger than he is. He is just over six feet tall, blond, blue eyes, bulky, broad and scarred.

ATTRIBUTES:
Jakt is a highly skilled warrior. He is extremely capable when it comes to combat, riding, survival, and is incredibly tough. The former Beast-Lord is force-sensitive and having trained all his life is capable of communicating with native beasts of Onderon with ease. In regards to animals to which he is not familiar, Jakt has a natural affinity to winning their affection. He is in tune with nature and the animal world that surrounds him. Jakt is keen on using his size as an advantage in a fight and will just as soon fall on you as a technique than punch or kick. He fights with a brutish grace and skill knowing how to augment his training with quick thinking and intuitive reasoning. While he appears gruff, he is by no means stupid. Having been put through a high level of schooling as he was groomed for a position of Nobility he can hold his own in discussions of philosophy, history, science and mathematics as well as how to quickly hunt, kill, gut, and prepare food.

While Jakt is extremely formidable in the wilderness, Jakt suffers when he is cut off from nature. Being on Coruscant, for example, would cause him great distress. It is hard for him to focus when he cannot hear and feel the hum and drum of nature. Therefore, while he is more of an asset than a rookie helmsman on a ship, having obtained a rudimentary education in navigation, piloting, and operating weapon systems, or more of an asset than a regular beat-cop in the city when tracking, he would not be in his element he can be efficiently replaced by a more qualified individual. Likewise when he feels nature being destroyed or smothered it is easy for him to lose focus and be caused further distress. Because of these proclivities he is also vulnerable if his beast, Jormun is incapacitated.

PERSONALITY:
He is a gruff, frank, callous, and almost crude man. However, he is not disingenuous nor is he malicious. He is actually rather a kind and caring individual. His charm is not in his words, but how he cares for and tends to his friends, herds and flocks. The former regime of Onderon loved him for this as he was a kind and just, fair and determined Noble. The man has a proud and stout heart and is stubborn to a fault. He is regal. When he walks in to a room you can almost sense the royalty and he has no problem letting one know he is of noble stock.

BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Iziz to a wealthy and noble family. Jakt Utlanning was raised with an understanding that just because he was blessed with privilege did not mean he could dismiss responsibility. On the contrary, he was raised to understand that with the more privilege you were afforded, the larger your responsibility was to the people to whom you could lend a hand, or a dollar, or a sword if needed. His childhood was daunting, education and training followed him for every waking moment. He cursed his parents for refusing to allow him time to play with his friends or get into trouble; there was always just more responsibility. One morning during his late adolescence, Jakt was heading off to martial training just outside Iziz when he was beset upon by a group of miscreants. They were the type that it didn't matter what you did for other people nor how often, they hated you for what you had by birthright. They attacked him. Jakt was no match. He was outnumbered and the boys were much larger and far older. He cried out in pain as he was beaten, a blood curdling sound. The cry was met with another, much louder, and a rumble from within the jungle. The boys had stopped hitting on him, turning to witness the lumbering and fearsome beast break through the trees eyeing them with a cold, calculated stare as if he knew what they knew; they had soiled their pants.

A large drexl. Only the beast-riders were known to be able to tame the animals. He came to call it, Jormun.

They had developed a bond that was inseparable but as Jakt grew older he could visit less and less, his responsibilities grew larger. Rumors about him had spread but he had to focus more and more for the position he was being groomed for in the nobility. Jakt wanted nothing of it. Just before his induction into the Royal house he disobeyed his parents and ran off to find the Beast-Riders.

The Beast Riders were no longer in exile and had acted on a call-when-necessary militia for the Capital. Mostly though, they kept to themselves. Jakt approached them atop Jormun. The riders almost lost control of their mounts when the outsider approached them riding what only they know how; they knew that something in their world was about to change. The Beast-Lord approached Jakt Utlanning and immediately issued a challenge. Jakt had only approached them to learn and become one of them. He had not intended to offend, he had not understood what riding Jormun had meant. The Banished One had come at last. Interpretations of what this meant had been lost in the ramblings of seers and soothsayers but they knew one thing: darkness would come with him.

Jakt defeated the Beast-Lord, Varelse out of hand with the help of Jormun. The former's drexl attempted to attack but yielded in the last moment to throw him from his saddle. Their law dictated that the former Beast-Lord would have to fall in under Jakt's rule, and the Riders in kind. This made the former Beast-Lord extremely contemptuous. For many years, well into Jakt's thirties, Varelse played along but eventually betrayed Jakt to a Captain of the Onderonian Royal Guard, Grego who had sought the Riders to aid him in a coming coup de tat, Varelse having known that Jakt would never have supported such a proposition, seized the opportunity. Jakt returned from a minor hunting trip to find Jormun subdued and his wings speared to to a cliff, chained and sedated. His former Riders atop the cliff, watching. All they knew from legend that the Banished One would bring darkness and they feared that Jakt himself would be the harbinger. They did not know that while Jakt was the catalyst, Varelse was the implement. His friend was dying. In a fury Jakt charged Varelse hurtling his spear with an impassioned power none of his former Riders had ever seen before penetrating Varelse's drexl's neck and dropping the beast to the ground. Varelse had underestimated Jakt. The former Beast-Lord dragging himself from under his bleeding animal, covered in viscera. Varelse realized his mistake and a clamorous battle between him and Jakt rang throughout the jungle. Jakt's vibrosword humming in contest with the betrayer's mace. The battle waged on and the two delivered unto each other blow after blow until finally Varelse realized Jakt's weakness and after a brief reprieve of the fighting removed the spear from his Drexl and plunged it into the sedated Jormun as lie bound. Jakt reeled as if he himself had been struck and Varelse's mace finally struck true. The usurper had him nailed into the same rock as his friend during his unconsciousness. There the two suffered for over a decade held together only by their love for each other and the meager provisions that the rider's afforded him.

Soon Iziz had once again fallen under the influence of a corrupt regime. Jakt knew everything he had ever loved would be destroyed. His noble family would be ousted, his friends subjugated and his beloved Iziz would fall to ruin. The illegitimate government would reign.

Under the cover of darkness one of the outcast nobles had heard of Jakt and Jormun mounted on the cliff deep within the jungle and set out to find them, believing in Jakt and the legend of the Banished One and that in them a new hope may lie for Iziz. They were all but dead when he found them, ragged, dehydrated and starved. It took great effort but the pair was freed. The Riders had moved on only visiting them on occasion to see that their suffering continued. Having banished Jakt from their ranks, Varelse in control, the Riders were acting as the Royal Police for Grego and his oppressors. He had finally become The Banished One but the darkness was not his.

Old and tired, the jungles having been sapped of almost all it's energy, he and his damaged and near-dead Jormun stumbled into the jungle where they would remain, licking their wounds until the time was right. When the Jedi finally came to Onderon and found Jakt gearing up for a personal war.

SKILLS:
Jakt is a highly skilled combatant. He has an affinity for communicating with animals. He is educated, a strong leader and capable. His force sensitivity, though untrained as a Jedi, lends him augmented fighting skills and a keen intuition. He has unrivaled survival skills and can sustain himself for long periods on his own in the harshest of climates. He is afforded rudimentary force-powers such as minor telekinesis, persuasion and enhanced physical abilities.

GEAR:
Jakt carries simple vibrosword, a large spear, some other simple tools and weapons, and hardened hides of the beasts he has hunted. He lives simply and rarely holds on to any possessions.

ROLE-PLAYS:

PETS:
Less of a pet and more of an ally, Jormun assists him in protecting the world of Onderon. Jormun is a larger than average Drexl of great experience.

I'll make an official AFL response to this later - I'm bone-tired right now - but one big thing I noticed was Drexlbane.

While last I checked Drexl weren't disallowed, that doesn't necessarily mean they'd be allowed; you'd probably have to ask a mod about having one as a pet. They're big, nasty, powerful creatures, after all. And if Drexlbane is instead some new species, you'd have to get that approved as a custom species first. I'll speak as to anything else tomorrow, probably.

Or one of the other two will.

But yeah, that's the main issue that doesn't take much thought for me to speak on right at the moment.

Alright, the other issues I see with the profile - first, about Onderon having been under control of the Sith, either in times previous or near to the modern day - that's not really a thing in this canon. You can have issues maybe with political revolution or something like that, but Onderon is within Republic-controlled space. It's not likely that the Sith - who are only recently making a resurgence into the galaxy at large - would be likely to control that planet, past the Border Alliance's territories.

As well, his abilities to communicate with beasts so easily. That wasn't really a common thing even in the old canon, and while I understand him having been adopted into the Beast Rider culture, I think it more likely that he'd have better luck working with animals he'd been used to then - maybe Drexl, Drexlbane (if approved), and maybe other beasts native to Onderon that might have become semi-domesticated. And this would give him an edge with other animals, coupled with his ability to use the Force - but he wouldn't necessarily be able to make friends with the animal immediately, or, if it was large enough, hop on and start riding it around. That'd take a struggle to try and get the animal to relax and allow you to do that using the Force, and that's not necessarily guaranteed, y'know? Otherwise, if he's just friends with every animal and can get them to do what he want fairly easily, there are ways that could present problems when roleplaying.

Other than that, it's an interesting profile for sure. Just a few issues that need fixed before it can be approved.

I have fixed it. It's better this way anyway. Thanks for the input.
