Josiah Rendar was born to a long line of legendary war heroes, Jedi Masters, Sith Lords and Bendu High Priests. His grandfather, Kit Corwin Rendar, was a famed Jedi Master who had become Darth Ravinos, apprentice to the Dark Lordess Viea, after embracing the Dark Side. His mother, Aletra Jekkura, had been kidnapped by Husen Al-Dubrir and Mathias Helsdain, operatives of Shadows of the Phoenix, but she was released by the Sith Empire back into the hands of Ravinos, who she had been in love with years before. The two conceived a child, who they found out was a boy. When Aletra was seven months pregnant, she traveled with Ravinos to Coruscant to have Viea wed them. However, the Jedi, Republic and Mandalorians attacked the Sith forces on the capital, causing them to cut the ceremony short. Ussej Padric Bac redeemed Ravinos, letting him become Kit Corwin Rendar once again. As Viea attempted to kill Ussej and Aletra, Kit jumped in front of her crimson lightsaber. He died a few hours later on Telos IV surrounded by Aletra, Ussej, Laili Jeyna Rendar, who was his sister, and his new nephew, Ussej Padric Bac II.

After the family disembarked into the Unknown Regions, they spent two full months stuck in Ussej’s ship. One night, while they were all asleep, Aletra went into labor. Ussej found the next habitable planet and they landed there where Aletra gave birth to a son whom she named Neil. They found out that the planet was called Kal’Shabbol and the inhabitants were known as the Bendu Order. In the years to come, Ussej became a High Priest, died and Ussej the Second die as well after being slated to become the next High Priest. Neil took over the position after they found out about the death.

Five years earlier, Neil’s wife gave birth to a son named Josiah. When Ussej the Second was killed, they took in Ussej Padric Bac III and raised him as a member of the family, allowing Josiah to grow up with a brotherly figure. Throughout the years, the became close friends and traveled on numerous missions together within the Ashlan Expanse, many of them being on Had Abaddon to help restore the democratically elected government.

When they were both thirty eight years old, a dark tremor was felt within the Force of Others. Josiah was with Ussej at the time who began to have a violent seizure on the ground. Josiah rushed over to him, but it was over just as soon as it began. Ussej said he had believed himself to be gone for much longer than he was shaking, saying that he had been taken to Ashlan Four to see his grandfather, who had become the Shaman of the Whills, who told him that the Sith Empire had returned and the Bendu Order would be required to help, despite the prejudice they held against the Jedi Order. Josiah was surprised by this, but given the Prophecy of The Voyager it was easy to understand.

One week later, the Bendu Order prepared to leave Kal’Shabbol for the known galaxy. Josiah was assigned to oversee the training on Kal’Shabbol, meaning that he would not be able to help with the war effort. While he was somewhat disappointed, he knew that training was a fact of life and he took pride in the work he had been assigned to do.

One year later, Josiah received a message from Ussej saying that the Bendu Order had become a partner of the Shadourian Order, founded by Damien Nightblade, and was preparing to launch a Holy War against the Jedi Order. Josiah protested, stating that it would have untold consequences on the galaxy. However, Ussej had already made up his mind and Josiah was forced to live with that decision.

Two years later, Ussej returned to Kal’Shabbol with the Bendu Order and the citizens rejoiced. Though Josiah was happy to see his old friend, he could not help but be displeased that the course of action that the order had taken had allowed the Sith Emperor Nefarius to overthrow the Republic on Coruscant and become the ruler of the galaxy. Josiah came up with numerous plans to reform the Bendu Order, but Ussej did not want to hear anything of it.

Weeks later, the Shadourian Order attacked Kal’Shabbol, leaving dozens of Bendu dead and even more injured. Ussej was called to see his grandfather once again and was given Excelsior, the Sword of The Skywalker. Ussej told him that he would be leaving once again to defeat the Shadourians and kill Carden Mannux, though he would not be coming back as it was essentially a one way trip. Josiah wished him well and, upon Ussej’s departure, was elected the new High Priest. It was then that he put his plans for the Bendu Order into action.

The mistakes of the immediate past, along with Josiah’s reforms, brought about an age of awakening for the order. Josiah helped the order rebuild itself from the ground up, literally as the Temple of Light had been destroyed by the Shadourian attack. During this time, not only were their changes in appearances to a more formal and monk-like style, but also a change in the way the order viewed itself. Josiah based his reforms on the Proverbs of Ussej Padric Bac and the mistakes made by each of the three Bac men, allowing the order to realize what happens when pride gets the best of people, including those that were considered heroes.

Kal’Shabbol also went through many changes during the age of awakening. Fearing annihilation, a few dozen citizens launched protests against the Bendu monarchy, stating that their recklessness during the war was what caused the attack on Kal’Shabbol. Though the Bendu certainly could not deny the claims, they were not prepared to sacrifice their mandate as the protectors of Kal’Shabbol. They had already done that once, luckily to no avail. When the protestors became violent, they were exiled by the majority of the citizens of Kal’Shabbol to Had Abaddon where they were not heard from again.

A year after becoming High Priest, Josiah learned of the arrival of former Supreme Chancellor Cos Jonathan Dashin, Kalel Kitsune and his son, Jorel Kitsune. Josiah took them to the Temple of Light for a ceremonial dinner in honor of Ussej Padric Bac III, who had fallen one month earlier as he sacrificed himself to save Kalel and Jorel, at the same time killing Mannux. The next day, Josiah assembled the order in formation around an ancient Jedi Bendu Monastery in the Ashlan Mountains. Kalel told him that he was surprised that so many people would gather around simply to see the delivery of the Sword of The Skywalker, but Josiah told him that they had gathered in honor of him and his own bravery.

After the Kitsune’s and Dashin left, Josiah began spending a great deal of his time alone in his chambers, writing down many more reforms for the order. However, he could not keep his mind off of something that Ussej told him to tell the Jedi Council: “tell the Jedi I said thank you”. He knew it was time to help the Jedi Order rebuild the galaxy, but he also knew that he would have to first have to finish the training of some of his most promising students....
