"There's a humming in the restless summer air..."

The Underdog
There's truly only three kinds of stories out there, my young apprentice. There's the prodigy, the commoner, and the underdog. If you ask me, I thoroughly enjoy the stories of the underdogs. So let me share with you a tale of a young padawan I trained when I was a Jedi Master, named Kenzie Alorra. She wasn't the strongest as a child, and most certainly wasn't everyone's first choice as a friend, but when she blossomed, she was as powerful as she was beautiful.
Her story begins on Naboo, when she was born. Her father was an average citizen, and her mother the owner of an inn. She was found not long after she was born and collected almost immediately. I felt a connection with her the moment I saw her, and instantly felt a fatherly compassion for her. I volunteered myself for the responsibility of raising her and teaching her as my padawan, and was given the charge as readily as I volunteered for it.
She was a spirited, witty, intelligent little girl and learned very fast. She was eager to know everything I had to teach her and put it into practice herself. She would connect herself with the Force so much, I almost thought she was a mouthpiece for it. However, as a child, she was the weakest of her peers. She was bullied and outcast by the other padawans, and would come to her chambers with bruises. For the longest time, she refused to tell me what caused them, though I had already known what they were and who caused them... It was strange; she was the weakest, and yet I sensed the power coursing through her veins. She was so powerful, but it was as though it were locked away.
Years went by and she finally chose her class, the path of a consular, and constructed her own lightsaber, a blue beam to relate to her good heart. I think she was around twelve when this happened, but this was a monumental event in her life that forever changed how the Order and the other padawans saw her. She was in the right place at the right time to become the savior of her fellow students, and forever earn her place of respect in their eyes.
They went to a jungle world to retrieve an ancient artifact and bring into custody a thief. If only it were that easy for them. If it weren't for Kenzie, they would be dead. Through this trial of theirs, they learned how honorable it is to be an underdog.
Their journey took them through an old ruins from the era of the Old Republic, where the Republic and the Mandalorians had a skirmish. They fought local beasts and native sentients who saw a territorial threat, but they took care of it easily. Poor Kenzie was thrown into the front of the group, though they never let her get injured. It was merely to scare her for their own amusement. Only one had taken her side; a young lad who was merely the pilot of their ship that wanted to embark on the venture with them.
As they neared the end, they encountered a Sith warrior and his apprentice. The Sith was the thief, and his apprentice was more than a match for them. They weren't expecting such a taxing fight that cost them two of their own. They were outmatched, and cried desperately for help. At first, she was afraid for her life, knowing how weak she was an unskilled she would be in a fight against them, but she faced her fear with courage.
It was as if the Force was waiting for her to be brave, and then it empowered her. She used everything she knew and fought her hardest against the Sith. After hours of grueling combat, she slew the apprentice and held the Sith in a corner. Her energy was spent, though, as she circled around him. Exhaustion slowly settled in, and she started to panic as she searched her mind for what she could do.
Just in time, her pilot friend fired a blaster bolt at the Sith and distracted him long enough for Kenzie to run him through with her lightsaber. She became a testament that the Force empowers whoever it so pleases. Those padawans never saw her the same again after that. She was revered as a hero, and I was never more proud of the girl. She would fail as a Sith, though... She's far too kind. Far too... Good.
When she was sixteen, I left the Order. That was about a year ago, so she'd be seventeen now. She was the only one I told why I left the Order, and I charged her to stay in under the tutilage of a more worthy Jedi Master. There is still much for her to learn, and there always will be, but I'm sure if I met her again on the battlefield, she'd give me an honorable death.
Her life, though, my young apprentice, is the reason you should never underestimate the underdog. You never know if that underdog will save your life or prove to be a valuable asset in the future.
