The Company Keywork Engineering & Security Systems (KESS) is one of the foremost engineering, security, and Naval Forces in the galaxy. The Company is divided into three major subsidiaries, Forge Engineering Solutions, Aegis Security Operations, and Helios Naval Command, all headed by the secretive Order of the Keywork. The corporation is still finding its place in the galactic economy and galactic engineering sector, political climate, and military realm having been isolated for over 1,000 centuries. The company designs products that directly competes with the likes of major companies like K-Labs, Mandal Hypernautics, and many others. KESS forces are deployed alongside or against some of the largest armies in the Galaxy including the Rebellion, the Imperium, the Hutt Cartel, and the Jedi Order. KESS products find their ways onto shelves and into hands across the entire galaxy (barring the Hutt Cartel's space, however), and they have found a use in almost every profession available. Each of KESS' subsidiaries are their own separate entity, though all of them are under the KESS. History Keywork Engineering & Security System (KESS) was originally formed as a front for the mysteries and vastly unknown Order of the Keywork. Prior to the Unification Wars the Order of the Keywork was publicly known. They were originally formed to protect the galaxy from Force Users. Believing that the arrogance and ignorance of the Jedi Order and their mission for detachment and peace was unsustainable, and the hatred and anger of the Sith was destructive the Order of the Keywork was formed. Their mission to recruit the best and brightest Force-Sensitive individuals that they could, and teach them to harness and use the force, while remaining neutral to it. Upon the closing of the Unification Wars, public opinion turned against the Order fueled by the Jedi order and the Sith order, the Jedi disgusted by the neutrality of the Keywork, and the Sith seeing them as a serious threat. As a result the Keywork Engineering and Security System was founded and the Key Entities went underground for the most part. The Order, now the Company, moved all of its assets to the Sirius Multi-Solar System in order to avoid attention of the Sith and Jedi orders. While operating under the masquerade of an Engineering corporation, the company honed and perfected their engineering designs and practices. Largely ignoring the Sith Wars, Clone Wars, or Galactic Civil War, KESS remained neutral and out of sight. Slowly, they began to send Key Entities and agents of the KESS into the rest of the Galaxy in an attempt to influence politics, and other Galactic Events. In recent years the KESS has revealed itself to the Galaxy, though entirely under the ruse of a joint Engineering Corporation, Private Military Company, and Private Naval Force. The Order of the Keywork is still very active however, representing the core administration of the corporation and ultimately calling the shots. Still with the aspiration to recruit Force Sensitives and train them, the KESS has also adopted a political agenda of diplomatic alignment and Imperial subversion. Recently the KESS combat-based subsidiaries forces have been deployed to Galactic battles such as the Battle of Naboo. The KESS is in the practice of hiring independent mercenaries to work in their Military division, known as the Aegis Security Operations, and has recently made alliances with the likes of the Mandalorian Clan Renelo. KESS is anti-Imperium and Pro-Rebellion. While a more historic opinion of the KESS was the unsustainability of the Jedi Order, a more modern opinion held by the corporation is that of an alliance with the Jedi. Still holding the belief that their method is unsustainable, the KESS also recognizes the Jedi as a powerful force, and one needed to overthrow the Imperium. They generally regard the Jedi’s mission as noble, however still ignorant and unsustainable. None of this, however, is publicly expressed as the corporation publicly supports the Jedi. The Order of the Keywork There were originally three. The Jedi Order, the Sith Order, and the Order of the Keywork. The Jedi, striving for peace, and mandating detachment and a strict use of the Light Side of the Force. The Sith believed in hatred, anger, and control - removing free will from those they ruled along with an embrace to the Dark Side of the Force. The Order of the Keywork believed in a neutral view on the force, embracing niether side as light or dark, but instead a unified Force to be used to positively benefit the galaxy. In essence, The Order used both sides, Dark and Light, but viewed it all as one entity. Before the time of the Old Republic the other two orders engaged in war, with the Jedi coming out on top and the Sith hiding in the shadows. However both were still active, and both hated the third order, the Order of the Keywork. The Jedi openly attacked The Order apprehending or killing any of the Key Entities they could find, considering them to be as bad as a Sith. This, however, was kept secret from public attention and Republic propaganda painted The Order as an ally of the Sith. The Jedi regarded them as apathetic and dangerous due to their views of The Force and how they could utilize Dark Side powers. Meanwhile the Sith regarded The Order with disgust due to the threat they posed to the Sith in their use of the Light Side. The Order serves as the head of the KESS and is comprised of the best Force Users that the KESS can find, recruit, and train. They have a council of sorts, with longer standing members holding more weight and collectively they run the company. The Order is only somewhat known by the heads of the collective three subsidiaries, Admiral Trane of Helios Naval Command, Ms. Alysa Corwall of Forge Engineering Systems, and Commander Miyo Deftinwolf of Aegis Security Operations. Beliefs of The Order The Order believes in a very neutral view on the force. As opposed to viewing it with two halves, they view it as a holy body. The Order teaches their members to harness the entire strength of the force and to use it to positively influence the galaxy. Their true beliefs are to side with neither the Jedi or Sith, believing the Jedi are arrogant and unsustainable, and the Sith are destructive and dangerous. More recently the Order has embraced the idea of an alliance with the Jedi, knowing they are necessary to overthrow the Sith Imperium. The Order’s only real beliefs, again, are to positively change the galaxy through disaster relief, balancing the force (and truly balancing, not just stacking it with Sith or Jedi), and bringing around true peace. Recently they’ve taken upon themselves to fulfill their mysterious political agenda. The leader of this Order, an individual known simply as Mother Superior, is the Supreme Mistress of this order, her agenda mysterious to all. He ambition recently got the former CEO Claudio Kilgannon killed by the Hutts, and resulted in a Hutt Blacklisting of the conglomerate. For the most part (as far as anyone is aware), the intended end result of The Order’s mission is to be able to bring a neutral faction back to the Force, being able to show those caught in the crossfire how to defend themselves from the conflicts of both the Jedi and the Sith, and this cannot be accomplished without allies. Key Entities Key Entities are members of the Order of the Keywork. They are much like the constituent members of the Jedi Order or the Sith Imperium, but for this particular group. The oldest and wisest form a council of sorts that runs the KESS. Most Key Entities come from varying backgrounds, perhaps Force-prospects or former Jedi or Sith that saw the error of their ways. Key Entities do operate openly in the galaxy and occasionally do refer to themselves as Key Entities. This is because it has been so long since the disappearance of the Order of the Keywork that neither Jedi nor Sith remembers their existence. Officially Key Entities are a special branch of Aegis Security Operations. Key Entities use whatever weaponry they choose, with no requirement to use a lightsaber. They are broken down into 3 main skill levels and no particular specialisation, as they are capable of matching their equivalent opponents with ease. > Time Consumer Key Entity - Mainly equivalent to a Jedi Padawan or Sith Acolyte, their title is actually an inside joke amongst the company, as these individuals are rather time consuming to train. > Velorium Camper Key Entity - Equating to Sith Crusaders or Jedi Knights, Velorium Campers are named as such due to their tendency to "camp" at their rank, many never progressing past these abilities (understandably). > Afterman Key Entity - Sometimes considered no more than myths, Aftermans (yes, that is the plurality of the title) are extremely rare. They are typically Key Entities of extreme aptitude and talent, capable of matching Jedi Master or Sith Masters. Only 2 are known to exist (also, both are NPCs, so you won't have to worry about them) The Core Entities For near a thousand years there have been progenated batched of individuals that kept The Order alive during its darkest times. Always being 5 in number, the Core Entities are sterile reproductions of those before them. They are not clones, but they are created through a progenation process from their predecessors. These Core Entities are produced in batches and planted into varying life situations to produce a desired result. After reaching the desired maturation level, the Order then find a way to pick them up. Once acquired and trained, they undergo biological manipulation in KESS labs. Their molecular structure is changed to prevent decomposition from setting in until administered with a decomposing agent. This is achieved by implanting the body with a homeostatic-monitor. This measures their vitals and is able to tell when vitals have been flat long enough to ensure that the Core Entity is truly dead. Once it confirms their death the homeostatic-monitor releases a number of preserving chemicals that inhibit decomposition for up to three months. All of this is because the Core Entity's body is needed after death for a process known as Key Entity Extraction. The Order is capable of removing the Core Entity’s force power and presence from their body, and use it to progenate a new Core Entity. This process, however, is only capable of occurring in a batch format with a new batch of Core Entities being created. The presence of deceased entities is removed from their body where it can linger beforehand for as long as 3 months (though in the case of the Extraction of Vic, The Butcher’s predecessor, the body of the former Core Entity was not recovered until 11 months after death resulting in his sick, sadistic nature). These batches are interconnected when they are implanted and share a sort of meld. They can feel each other’s emotions and pain should they choose to. It is also necessary that all surviving members of a batch are present for extraction, so as to safely stabilize the Force presence during the process. Core Entities are only typically referred to as such when Extraction has to be performed, otherwise they simply identify as normal Key Entities. The original batch was formed from a captured child during the height of the first Galactic Empire under Palpatine. The half-Chiss/half-Human child was named Liliana Skirata, and she was considered an abomination by many, being born unnaturally. Events transpired that resulted in her genetic stock being manipulated and progenated from. Aegis Security Operations The Aegis Security Operations is 90% of the KESS Security sector and is it’s own entity, operating under control and funding of KESS. Aegis, as it is usually shortened to, promotes the KESS’ mission of peacekeeping, disaster relief, political influence, and Imperial opposition. Aegis agents are specially trained and considered employees of the KESS. They are outfitted with the best blaster-lightsaber resistant weaponry the KESS can requisition, with standard loadouts being assigned according to their mission. Aegis soldiers are ranked in similar fashion to that of the Army, with like names carrying the same value, I.E.: General, Commander, etc. Aegis soldiers are automatically under the command of a Key Entity if present, otherwise are self governing to the extent allowable under organized unit procedures. A common practice for the KESS is to hire mercenaries to fill command positions in Aegis, with notable members including Prudii Kyramud, Lester DeWitt, Derik Vander, Inferno The Prize Fighter, and Captain Ryan Jacen. The Aegis Organisation In order to maintain a constant image of righteousness, much if what Aegis does is in the name of the people and to show that people can stand up to the Imperium. Whenever you see a natural disaster affect an entire planet, Aegis will be there to evacuate the refugees. Whenever a disease or plague afflicts a system, Aegis Medical teams will be there to isolate and treat the sick and dying. And whenever the Imperium thinks they can trample the lives of the innocent, Aegis will be there to evacuate and defend a besieged city, even against overwhelming opposition. Many people have joined KESS in the hopes to become a member of Aegis Security Operations and wear the coveted Sword and Keywork on their pauldron. These men want to join a military group that isn't tied in endless miles of bureaucratic red tape, and simply want to dispense justice in the best and most freeing way. Some are considered maniacs who simply love their jobs, some are Knights in Sour Armour who find the most sensible people to fight for, and some are simply men who know how to use a gun and need the money. Aegis and its forces are fully capable of adapting to almost battlefield situation, and use superior-quality soldiers instead of simply overwhelming numbers. Each man knows what the hell they're doing, and they can match 20 of the Imperium’s stormtroopers any day of the week. Their superior training and equipment is what gives them a battlefield advantage, as well as the normally morale-boosting effects of a commanding Key Entity. Forge Engineering Systems Widely nicknamed as “The Forge,” Forge, or FES, Forge Engineering Systems was established in the light of recent events to prevent strategic surprise from negatively impacting the multitudes of non-empire societies and create strategic surprise for their enemies by maintaining the technological superiority of the non-empire militaries. To fulfill its mission, The Forge relies on diverse platforms to apply multidisciplinary approaches to both advance knowledge through basic research and create innovative technologies that address current practical problems through applied research. The Forge’s scientific investigations span the gamut from laboratory efforts to the creation of full-scale technology demonstrations in the fields of biology, medicine, computer science, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, material sciences, neurosciences and more. The Forge undertakes projects that are finite in duration but that create lasting revolutionary change. The Forge Mission Creating breakthrough technologies for our investors is the mission of Forge Engineering Systems. By making pivotal investments in new technology-driven ideas for our investors, the Forge imagines and makes possible new capabilities for overcoming the multifaceted threats and challenges that lie ahead. This makes a better, more secure future possible. In an uncertain Galaxy, with war being a near certainty, providing these new capabilities is more important than ever. Looking back, precision guidance navigation, stealth, droid vehicles, electronic warfare, area denial, space & ground superiority are among the technologies that changed the face of war over the last two decades. Many people and organizations worked these technologies to perfection. In each case, the Empire made key early investments that changed what was possible and started a revolution in capability. Today, the Forge is helping to build a future in which we can do extraordinary things. Fully control the electromagnetic spectrum for communications, sensing, and imaging. Provide a way to combat the ever increasing medical supply shortages. Wield cyber weapons as a military capability with confidence in our own investors’ Holonet-security. Increase capability in space by offering new innovations in the fields of space vehicles. Open new operational regimes with advanced delivery platforms and weapons. To build a strong foundation for tomorrow’s military systems, we are catalyzing an advanced technology base in new areas of information technology, electronics, and materials science, as well as new technologies emerging from the biotech sciences. The Forge Framework The Forge’s investment strategy begins with a portfolio approach. Reaching for outsized impact means taking on risk, and high risk in pursuit of high payoff is a hallmark of our programs. We pursue our objectives through hundreds of programs. By design, programs are finite while creating lasting revolutionary change. They address a wide range of technology opportunities and national security challenges. This assures that while individual efforts might fail—a natural consequence of taking on risk—the total portfolio delivers. How do we create this portfolio of programs? One major part of the answer is bottom up: Forge Engineering Systems program managers define and propose new programs they believe promise revolutionary change. This is important for several reasons. An effective Forge program manager is the person closest to the critical challenges and possible technology opportunities in his or her arena, and the personal inspiration and drive behind a novel idea is the spark needed to start a big fire. We give our employees the freedom they need to pursue technological progress. Yet we recognize that our work lives in a context of today’s realities and tomorrow’s outlook. So a framework for Forge—an understanding of our enduring mission in the context of the political and technological environment and its direction—is vital in shaping our portfolio. We focus on three essential, interdependent strategic objectives to carry out our mission: - Demonstrate breakthrough capabilities for the security and medical fields - Catalyze a differentiated and highly capable technology base - Ensure Forge Engineering Systems remains robust and vibrant to deliver on its mission today and in the future. Though small in manpower, we find strength in the quality of our programs. Often, the amount of minds at work does not directly impact the the quality of the outcome. In fact, it is more often the case that a single entity is responsible for large impact. And so, Forge Engineering Systems employs a relatively small amount of elite project managers in the belief of quality over quantity. However, in order to maintain sustainable production levels, The Forge possesses a fair number of manufacturing droids, working endlessly to produce and fabricate the ships, weapons, and other technologies developed by the adept R&D teams. Helios Naval Command The Third and final of the KESS subsidiaries is Helios Naval Command (HNC). The Order of The Keywork and its Key Entities witnessed the Sith rise to power and knew that one day they would need to reveal themselves to tip the balance of things. To do this in addition to the other subsidiaries they needed a proper navy. Helios Naval Command offers a sword to the Aegis in their peacekeeping/policing missions and gives the KESS a sword in their political ambitions, as well as offering a shield to the Forge, protecting KESS assets. Helios forces are available for private contracting, normally involved in system defense, convoy/trade escorts, and picket duties for other private/commercial bodies. HNC ranks are structured in the typical naval fashion, with each rank carrying the same equivalent, I.E.: Admiral, Captain, Lieutenant, etc. HNC’s Recruiting While having the largest number of individual members, the official count is something few like to calculate. The total number would have to be the crews, staff, and complements’ crews for all the stations and ships under the KESS’ large umbrella. Many are people who signed up looking for work that was related to hypernautics or starships mechanics. Some are prospected by KESS agents looking for people with particular skills, like Tinkerers or Pilots. People with former experience in any fields relating to spacecraft or operations in space are highly desirable. One notable individual who joined HNC of their own accord was the Ex-Imperial Admiral Vestar Trane, who is in fact the leader of HNC, commanding the forces in space effectively despite their small fleet when compared to their adversaries.
