You just need it to have a successful life, at least in the vast majority of cases.

Yes. I'd rather have a good life than a successful one. For some people however, good and successful are the same.

I could live in a small apartment in New Orleans for the rest of my life and be happy. Maybe make a career out of being a military journalist for the Marine Corps.

you'd still have to go to basic.

Yes, I will. I'd have to go through boot, then graduate from boot, and then specialize in military journalism. I planned on doing it on a three year contract then discharge and go to college and seek a career as a history teacher, work that for some years, then get into politics. If I decide not to go to college or if I can't, I'll do it for a career.

So, basically, everything you want to do to have a good life requires college, and then if you can't go to college then you can always be in the military as a career? I don't know about you, but having people shoot at me doesn't really seem like a "good life". It's fine for two or three years if you enlist, but I wouldn't be able to do that for my entire life.

You don't need to go to college to have a good, successful life. That's a really big myth. There are many career paths that don't require a college education that can provide a good, sizable income for you. In fact, many college-based careers have rather poor incomes compared to work place-based careers. Of course, you have to still be rather intelligent, but the majority of people who enter the trades will make more money than the majority of people who attend college.

What did I do on my last day of School?

Nothing. Just thanked all my teachers because they were the only ones i had any respect for, and was glad i wouldent see the fools and idiots(The other students) that i had to be with for the rest of my life ever again.

Other then that, nothing. I didn't even walk the stage or get into that rediculous gown.

Of course... this was some 4 and a half years ago.

Military journalists aren't on the front lines, they go in after the fighting has stopped. Yes, they are given a rifle in case they would need it, but I would see little combat. Traveling the world, serving my country, and bringing the news to the homefront at the same time would make me feel I really accomplished something.

Traveling the world, serving my country, and bringing heavily filtered garbage to the homefront at the same time would make me feel I really accomplished something.

Fixed.

The only real of kind journalism is independent journalism.

Also, to add to my point. In the end, do what makes you happy. If that's working in a garage fixing cars, then power to you. If it's running a company, trying to make the Fortune 500, then power to you.

Amen. Now if only other people could share this belief.
