He managed to survive in the military for a while, but his insistence on following his own orders first has often put him at odds with other instructions. He primarily wants freedom to pursue his own ends, and shies away from the idea of commitment or any stable relationship, or even stability. He has, however, a strong sense of duty and loyalty, and so if he has a responsibility, he will fulfill it. However, while he has some flexible morals, including the idea of property and borrowing, he draws the line at hurting or killing innocents.
He also insists on fights being fair (he has a vague sense of honor), with whoever he’s going after having a chance to defend themselves. Often, his targets are criminals of some sort. He doesn’t have very good emotional control, and he has a quick temper. This can make him a bit harsh towards people when angered, or a bit scathing. His main motivation is he wants to be strong. He wants to be the best at what he does, and he will do what it takes (within limits) to reach his goal.

Logan was a Corellian. His father worked as a pilot but unlike his father, Logan never really took to piloting. The consistently rotating axis of battle in space often unsettled him, or made him feel sick- he proved to be quite susceptible to airsickness. Instead, he went into the military, infantry, as soon as he was able to enlist at eighteen, and he served for about two years in the military, before facing a court martial for beating up his commanding officer.
By then, he had risen through the non-commissioned officer ranks to sergeant. He’d been nicknamed Maverick since he was a recruit, since he had a stubborn tendency to defy the rules as and when it suited him. On a night out at a cantina which resulted in the officers and non-commissioned officers of his company getting quite drunk turned sour.
The fight had actually occurred when his superior officer had been eying a young girl for a while, and had started to move in on her. Her screams had galvanised Logan, and he had tried to remind his CO that he had been inebriated and wasn’t in his right state of mind. It struck him as immensely dishonorable. However, the CO shoved him aside, and so, Logan struck him with a good hard punch to force him away from the girl. This ended up in a fistfight in the back alley, and ended up with the CO with a broken jaw, and Logan with a black eye, a bleeding nose, and sprained wrist.
Partly because the CO was influential enough, Logan faced strokes from a cane as well as dishonorable discharge, and he left the military. In any case, he had struck a CO, and that itself could not pass without some form of punishment. He drifted, jobless, and returned to Corellia from Coruscant.
His father offered him a job as a mechanic, and although Logan was not particularly talented at that, he needed an income and so he took the job, working with the military once more, but as an employed mechanic and engineer. That kept him out of having to fly the ships, and he was perfectly fine with that. He was not happy as a mechanic, however, and would have taken up a life as a bounty hunter, except that one of his clients one day had been a Jedi Knight, Will Kales. Kales detected that Logan was Force sensitive, and offered to register him at the Jedi Temple to train as a Jedi. Having been still sore from his discharge from the military, Logan immediately accepted. Although his father opposed the decision, Logan was old enough to make his own decision without consulting his father, and he knew it.
Although Kales had discovered Logan, so as to speak, the Knight did not want the responsibility of training a Padawan learner just yet.
