Used with Permission by johnsonting

Affiliation: Mandalorian Knights(eventual)

Ownership: Tyrin Kyrze

Intent: To create a set of armor for Tryin Kyrsze to lay the foundation for later more standardized variant. A above average set of heavy armor with a few standardized equipment slots. The armor also keeps in line with what people expect of Mandalorian armor while keeping it inline with what balanced armor should be, this includes only limited gizmos in the form of zoom, night vision, and a filter. All things Mandalorians would be keenly aware to have on armor to be used in warzones and battles.

The shield was remade to not only show the faith from the Elder of House Kyrze but to show that he was willing to put all he has behind the idea of the Knights return.

Model: MandalArmour Guild "Huskarl" class Armor

Class: Heavy (shield can take a hit from a lightsaber, while the armor can only stand the usual 3 shots before failure of that part of the armor)

Type: Mandalorian Armor

Weight: 30kg

Composition: Durasteel, Phrik alloy(shield), armorweave, decorative metals and leather.

Description:
The suit is from the ancient history of Mandalore. Long kept deep in the vaults of House Kyrze one of the few relics left from the time the Knights first walked among their brothers. This suit so far is the only one of its type but is the ground work for the armor that the Elder Kyrze would hope to produce. For now the ancient set of armor was given a refurbishment and updated as follows.

The full suit of heavy armor was updated and restored for use by Tyrin while. It is made of fitted plates that protect the user from the harmful dangers of the environment and from combat. As the legends state the knight who the armor is for helps with the final touches being done to the armor. In this case Tyrin helped with the final touches to the ornamental trimming on the armor. The armor itself is modular and able to be modified by the wearer fairly easy. The standard parts include a protective helm that can seal up the armor allowing the user protection in hostile environments and space for short amounts of time.

The helm is designed, with the help of some basic sensor tech, to have a normal field of view. The helm has a standard NV filter with an attachment point on the helm to broaden what the basics of the suit can do. The attachment point can only handle a single sensor that can allow the user a second filter of the EM spectrum when used the most common is a proper thermal filter or one that makes the helmet with a x8 zoom.

A simple yet effective body glove is worn underneath that protects the user form cold and heat however it offers no protection from the extreme ends of the thermometer. The Armor is designed around being easier to use and maneuver in than a more contemporary heavy armor would be.

It has newly devised mag attachment points for swords, blasters, and even shields. These allow the user to make sure everything stays where they put without worrying about getting loops and straps caught on things. While these points are not the strongest magnets made, they offer enough strength to hold tighter then conventional means and will keep them attached in most common situations including a nearby mortar hit. It should be stated that any strong force with similar force then the concussive blast from a mortar can pull/knock the weapon free.

Lastly the suit comes with an ancient kite shield, beaten and battered they returned it to its former glory and strengthened it with phrik. The shield now stands as the old mans symbol that he will give it all to restore the mythical organization.

Features:
  • Attachment point for a single additional sensor (Thermal in this case)
  • basic smoke and toxin filter(filtering only battlefield smoke and a very few(~3) of the most common hazardous toxins)
  • x2, x4, x6 zoom on helmet
  • Night Vision
  • Mag attach points for various weapons on various locations (slightly stronger hold then traditional webbing but with added bonus of not having webbing)

I'm just gonna quickly give my two cents here, since no doubt Clayton's probably gonna have a pretty heavy workload in regards to submissions by tomorrow.

I think generally speaking, this write-up sort of feels...somewhat last timeline-ey. For something that, as you said in your intent section, is basically for the purposes of identification, you've got a lot going on about tactical HUDs, hardening against EMPs and Ions, Phrik components, attachments points and so on. Given what we've been saying about how this is the kind of stuff we don't want to see this timeline, I'd suggest you go back and try and simplify it and build more on the flavour of the armor, rather than stuff it full of technology.

Now, understandably, this is the first day of the next timeline, so there are bound to be teething pains, but you'll really need to take a step back, read the stickies and really strongly consider the kind of tech we're looking for moving forward, because I don't think this really fits in with what we've been telling everyone about tech submissions.

I can see your point and I will do another gloss over, that said the majority of this is seen in as very doable in the cannon sources we have to us. Most of the other stuff like attachment points are little more then just there so people can have a sword on the back and things of that nature. Its based for Force users of the Mandalorians and I think having the bracers and helmet be resistant wouldn't be unusual for a society of warriors.

This is the kind of stuff that should be in your intent section. But also remember: just because something exists in canon, that may not necessarily make it reasonable to use in the RP. This is something that'll take some time to get used to, no doubt, but it's important to keep in mind that while canon is a factor, another massive consideration is just how easy it is to understand a write-up. As we've said before, technology being this huge way to gain an advantage isn't going to be the case anymore, so I'd say that it's important to keep in mind that, especially in the case of personal armor, simplicity is probably going to probably be key. Extremely state-of-the-art or complicated tech just isn't going to be approved like it used to be, so no doubt you and many other members will have to rethink how you approach submissions.

This is one of the most basic armors to date and I made sure to go over claytons own heavy armor write up as I made this. I do not see anything high tech on the suit. It has a simple zoom function and can use the two most common night vision types, all of which are rather common and don't add any real tech advantage. In fact I never mention HUD's, once only I mention that it has a normal field of view but nothing about super 360 mlg noscope radar-smellovision. The only thing that is kinda hightech is its protection from smoke, basic toxins, and some vacuum protection. Unless I missed something please feel free to point it out I will gladly take another look. However I feel this is what should be expected of heavy armor this timeline.

Keep in mind, we're ~1000 years before prequels. Tech won't be as sharp as what we've seen in canon.

I know that is why everything is so limited. A by six zoom isn't much compared to sabines by 24+ zoom she seems to have in rebels. I feel I have cut it back a to reflect that. If you'd prefer I can state that mag attachment points are a new development. After all this will be fairly uncommon since it will only be for the knights.

Side point, how difficult would it have been for a non Mandalorian to have acquired a set of this armor? I'm assuming it would have to be taken from a Knight who was captured or killed? @Grim

I agree though it does seem pretty well balanced for this timeline, everything on that feature list exists for real today except we use webbing not mag points to attach kit onto armor.
I know in the previous timeline my Mandalorians armor had everything but a toilet built into it.
At least I don't think it had a waste disposal system built into it.

I imagine it would be pretty difficult to get one outside of mandalorian space. I mean you could take it from them if they were captured or killed, but you would need an armorsmith to refit the plates to fit you properly. Otherwise it could actually decrease range of movement and have large gaps in the plates.

I'm going to point out some things that @Green Ranger and @Clayton may have issues with that I have noticed.

Basic set of heavy armor
Basic night vision and thermal view with a very common to see zoom function
basic toxin and smoke filter
I'm highlighting these statements to point out that simply because you claim something is basic, and then proceed to label many parts of it basic, does not make it so. This makes your write-up seem like it's trying to hide these features behind the word "basic". While I don't think any of this stuff is inappropriate for Star Wars armor, I would avoid that habit.

Standard NV filter with an attachment point on the helm to broaden what the basics of the suit can do
So is this just an out so you can add some high tech stuff to it later?

Easy to use and maneuver in thanks to its full plate nature
While plated armor is made to assist with movement, I don't think heavy armor should be described as "easy to maneuver in".

Composite makes up the bracers and helm to offer a bit more protection from lightsabers their Sith opponents have
This part just seems unnecessary and an added advantage over others. You can just as easily use lightsaber resistant weapons and your shield.

Mag attachment points
While this may seem purely cosmetic, it could be used to prevent disarming and give you an advantage over others.

Attachment point on both wrists for custom low profile holdout blaster that can be used with shields, or other types of wrist weapons
Because armor always needs guns attached to it that you can simultaneously use with your shield that protects you from lightsabers.

EDIT: Sweet pic though!

Hmm, can it be bought directly or would I need to work out a mission with you to acquire a set?
My Czerka Noghri Lux would love a set of armor like that to go with his swords when he's taking missions that will require heavy combat and not stealth.

You would have to find an armorsmith to make it for you, and hope the Knights don't find out. Though I am sure a down and out armorer could refit the odds and end pieces to get you a full kit. Though if you showed up in mandalorian space wearing it you might get asked some hard questions.

@Aluminum Falcon I went and sorted those points and made it a bit more clear(hopefully). I do disagree on the few added pieces of armor, for a heavy armor this is fairly light on the glowstick resistant side. Aside from the shield which I have a feeling will have to be its own write up, those are the only two places and with the new rules those only protect against one hit each and are small targets leaving the vast bulk of the armor free to be struck by glowsticks.

I cannot find the section of the rules that states this, but if that is the case please disregard that point.

  • Keep rare or powerful materials like Phrik or Cortosis sparse. You can have 1 or 2 minor pieces made of those materials, but you need good reason to have them, as they'd be rare and expensive. "To protect against lightsabers" isn't a reason.

Like...I'm not entirely sure how a phrik riot shield fits into this guideline, to be honest.

@boli I did indeed state that the shield would have to have its own write up. Given that I only can post two writeups at a time, that one has to wait.

@Aluminum Falcon In the tech rules discussion Clayton said that ls resistant material on armor could only survive one hit before being compromised, heavy armor at most for each section could handle 3 blaster bolts.

Not quite the point, Grim. What I'm saying here is that you've got stuff in here that doesn't fit with what the guidelines state are acceptable. Factoring that in along with some of the other concerns raised and the general amount of discussion that's been required so far, and I feel obligated to suggest that you go back and read through the stickies on tech again, because there seems to be a disconnect between where you set the bar for acceptable tech, and where the guidelines set the bar.

Looks to be better to me as you've edited most of the things I pointed out. I still don't feel that the blaster attachment points are necessary, but I'm not the Tech Admin. I will suggest that you not take anything personally about the specific scrutiny the admins will have you under. You have taken the brave first step as being one of the first to post technology under the newly established rules. As such, the admins will be taking a much harsher criticism of your write-ups, because as some of the first technology posted (and perhaps approved) they will set the precedent for future write-ups in this timeline.

@Aluminum Falcon thank you for actually providing me with workable feedback. While I agree with you on the blasters it was something that the other mando knight players really felt like should be there. I am not taking it personally I knew full well going into this I would have to go through this process.

I just want to point something out. We're 100% serious about these new tech guidelines. If you're going to give the staff attitude through this process, or you refuse to change anything based on our new approach to technology, we will reject your tech.

It's your responsibility to prove why this is needed and to justify why we should approve it, not the other way around.
