I like the idea of merging the criminal factions. One criminal faction with lots of people involved will be far more effective and robust than a lot of smaller, competing criminal factions that constantly go bust. You guys could even seek to forcibly integrate or destroy any other criminal faction, so that the Shadow government you guys are creating can have complete say over the underworld.

I am looking to get a bunch of people together to develop a corporate conglomerate that will function in a similar manner. If I am successful, the Conglomerate and the Syndicate can develop close fictional ties.

Rim Syndicate still has my favor, as the story takes place in the Rim. Hell, we could even have a standing mission pack dealing with our rivals the Core Syndicate ;)

So I'm gonna throw in one of my characters here. A Rogue Jedi Outlaw from a prestigious family that is connected to both the Republic Senate and intergalactic commerce.

Nice! A Force-user in a criminal faction is bound to create some interesting situations!

I think that with the main faction limitations we'll have a lot of characters that will only be part of the indie factions "temporarily" until either their main faction character is killed or archived. I might create a FU myself and have him be part of the syndicate until (and if) my senator dies, at which point he'll go through something really dark and join the Sith. If there's more people doing something similar, we can add a special section to the write-up to accomodate these characters as enforcers/problem solvers that operate outside the normal ranking system.

The only crime factions I know of are Ben's pirate fleet and the Exchange. Anyone else? I'll put together a list.

Not entirely sure what you mean, as it's more a merger of ideas than existing factions at this point. The write-up will commence this week and with a number of people giving direct input I'm sure we'll have a nice story and syndicate to present at the end of january.

Sorry by merger I meant forming a group out of all the factions not nessecarily combining everything.

I think that might be a bit too early, although it's appreciated that you'd go through the effort. People can still change their mind on which characters they'll make and which factions to join, especially since there will be many more to choose from, so I'm not too eager to list names and go after them like their mums would if she wants them to clean their rooms.

Therefore we're putting the focus primarily on developing a good write-up of what we hope will be a great independent faction and this thread is more or less to let everyone have a say and help us improve.

Are people still interested in the Shadow Senate idea? I forgot who brought it up but it sounded like a great idea. Representatives from all the loyal gangs and crime families led by a few powerful Crime Lords. That notion sounded fun. I am interested in my Jedi outlaw being the enforcer of the crime lords.
