After three hours of brutal fighting, some frustration, and dodging at least five hundred grenades I was finally able to beat the "Relentless" mission of COD: World at War on veteran difficulty.

It got me thinking of games that are so frustratingly difficult that you want to pull your hair out or scream at your television.

The original Contra immediately comes to mind for me.

What games do you guys place into this category?

Hmmm, I`d say one of the hardest games are among the games I`ve played, Fire Emblem (On the GBA) and Path of Radiance are by far one of the hardest ones I`ve played. On the GBA one, the final level is you facing off with all of your past bosses plus 2. Its only because of that Arch Sage and Lord Pent that you have a chance. You face off with your bosses in an ordered system, then killing the last boss, then having to kill a ****ing Dragon with whatever you have left. In PoR its just an overall challenging game.

Another is Dissidia FF. Fighting and slaying demi-gods like Chaos is unsurprisingly hard considering you have to kill him 3 times (And you don`t get your damn summon back if it gets used in a previous match plus the Shinryu summon keeps tripling his attack power and my magic pot kept getting wasted.) and thats if you can survive his undodgeable attack...

Very rarely do I ever get frustrated with a video game- usually if I'm doing poorly I'll just put it down.

The glaring exception to the rule was Greg Hasting's Tournament Paintball, both 1 and 2. The gameplay itself was very fun until you get to the later levels where the game goes from fun to infuriating- you get hit while you're still under cover, your teammates have moments of severe retardation, etc. The worst part was they didn't even fix it in the second incarnation.

The only time I've ever thrown a controller.

It might sound pathetic, but Star Wars: Jedi Outcast for gamecube was hard for me. I just couldn't get a good grasp of the controls. Maybe I'll play it again and see if it still bugs me, I haven't tried in years.

Guitar Hero.

Supposedly those lines on the screen are not music measures.

blood bowl, the controls were just impossible to get use to, and it sorta sucked ( not the boardgames I fondly remembered) thankfully it was a gamefly rental so I just repackaged it the same day....there have been a few I've dont that to actually ...

At first Demon's Souls was incredibly hard, but now I'm soul level 247 so I have no issue with it. Enclave is ****ing hard, too.

Eternal Darkness was pretty hard when I was younger. I love that game.

The ones before the GBA ones are much harder, and hector with a healer can pretty much solo that level(and any other level really :/)

Ike is entirely too good for PoR to be difficult, especially once you pick up aether.

I cant really think of any super difficult games tbh. :/ Kayne and Lynch 2 on the hardest difficulty is pretty damned hard. Ill think of something else soon.

I don't know about the most difficult game overall, but I could never beat Bitores Mendez on hard mode in Resident Evil 4 =/ That one move he does when he's swinging from the beams is a one-shot KO! D:

And as for your Fire Emblem woes, all you gotta do is pick your units beforehand for the final chapter, plus a few for the chapter before it. They should be at least level 10 for the final chapter. Make sure you have Canas, Hector leveled, and at least one healer with a restore staff (for berserk). I typically use Priscilla or one of my anima users (athos or Nino).
