MYRKR

Its surface dominated by massive jungles, rolling plains and towering mountain ranges, the planet of Myrkr remains unblemished in the face of a technological Galaxy.

A long time ago, before the Reshekki came into existence, Myrkr was inhabited by a race of Force-sensitive beings called Neti. These gentle guardians watched the planet for thousands of years, observing the species growing and evolvinmg around them. When the first Reshekki appeared, almost every Neti suddenly left; where they went and why remains a mystery. Those left behind wander about taking whatever shape they please, while others slumber, the time of their awakening unknown.

The Reshekki continued to grow and expand, spreading out and settling across the planet. In an attempt to create organization and order, they set up a monarchical system of government, with the ruler’s throne set in the largest residence. For a few generations, this structure worked, and the civilization was at peace. However, this did not last forever. Bloodline bickering devolved into base fighting power struggles as settlements broke away from the monarchy and established leadership amongst their own spheres of influence. Tensions increased as each self-proclaimed monarch claimed ownership over the throne. A great and terrible civil war broke out that lasted for several years, with no resolution in sight. The war came to a peak as the settlement that housed the great throne was burned to the ground, razing the lush forest for miles around.

When all seemed lost, one of the remaining Neti awoke, greatly distressed at the ruthless infighting and constant bloodshed. Taking on the guise of an elderly Reshekki sage, he began a trek across the planet, showing the warring nations the folly of their actions, and teaching a more peaceful path. Under his philosophy, a revolution began, uniting the Reshekki once more. It was collectively decided that each individual settlement would elect their own leader; a single monarch to rule the entire planet was too much responsibility, and the Reshekki would not risk repeating their past again.

In the centuries that have passed, the Reshekki have grown in leaps and bounds. After joining with the Galactic Republic, their technology has advanced even further, and Myrkr remains a vital ally to the alliance.

CULTURE

The Reshekki culture has many different aspects to it.

The first is their methodology of proving one’s worthiness. Every aspect of their civilization reflects this: their government, businesses, and even school system. The most common method of proving worthiness is done through a “Trial”, which is basically a competition of skill. As such, their government system is unique, what they call a “Dokimocracy”. The leader for each cluster is chosen independently from other clusters and through the Trial system.

The second is based on the preservation and reverence of the world around them. The Reshekki believe that the world’s natural state is at peace, and this peace should be respected. Some violence is unavoidable, as predators must hunt for their prey; but any more will throw the world out of balance. Following this ideal, the Reshekki are very protective of the world around them, and refuse to take more than what is necessary from the jungle.

Myrkr’s primary exports consist of some basic commodities, such as food and minerals. They also produce a great deal of technology, specifically centered around audio-visual sensory systems.

However, their most valuable export lies in the production of Scatterweave. As the Reshekki cut down Olbio trees to use their wood, the bark and sap are harvested and processed into the thread and liquid forms of the product. Considering Myrkr is one of the only planets that grows the metal-rich trees, the material is in high demand; however, the Reshekki refuse to harvest more than a small percentage each year, in order to prevent mass deforestation and to allow time for the young trees to regrow.

INFO

Coordinates: N-7
Hyperlane: Hydian Way (nearby)
Climate: Tropical/Temperate
Terrain: Jungles, sparse plains, mountains in the polar regions
Rotation: 24 standard hours with an orbital period of 324 local days
Inhabitants: 2.5 billion (90% Reshekki, 10% other)
Resources: Scatterweave, food, ores and minerals, technology
Government: Dokimocracy
Technology: Galaxy standard
Satellites: None

Intent: I am creating this planet writeup in order to flesh out both the planet’s history and its current condition, especially since it is part of the Republic and now has a sentient race inhabiting it. Having an expanded writeup also adds more detail for others to refer to if they wish to roleplay on the planet.

NOTABLE

CREATURES AND

LOCATIONS

Almost all that visit Myrkr say that it is a perfectly beautiful and serene planet. While not entirely false, those that look closely will see that they are also far from the truth.

THE DESOLATE GROUNDS
The aftermath of the Great Fire left a massive circle of ash and debris in its wake. The fire was all-consuming, destroying all life in the vicinity; nothing lives here, and nothing grows here. It is a testament to every Reshekki of their past failures, and a perpetual warning to the danger and cost of warfare.

THE POLAR REGIONS
Though Myrkr’s forests encompass almost the entire planet, the far North and South are the exception. Instead of large trees, massive mountain ranges tower over the fertile plains that surround them. These regions do not receive nearly as much rain as the rest of the planet, and snow is not an uncommon sight on the mountaintops and during the winter months. Many settlements of Reshekki have created ground-based clusters in these regions, tilling the soil and mining the rich metals and ores from the many caves that dot the mountains.

TYRALISK
Although the Reshekki do not shy away from using technology, the preferred method of travel throughout the canopies of Myrkr is by Tyralisk. Though these majestic, omnivorous creatures can often be seen flying or slithering wild throughout the jungle, they are easily tameable from birth.

SARCORAHK
During the time of the Neti’s inhabitance, feathered raptor-like saurian birds ruled the jungle floors and canopies of Myrkr. As time passed, this precursor reptile eventually split into two different lines of species, one of which became the smaller, sentient Reshekki.

The second line, though losing their wings and most of their feathers, became the larger Sarcorahk. These predators prowl the plains and treebeds in packs; though not sentient like their counterparts, Sarcorahk still possess a cunning intelligence, making them dangerous foes to the unwary traveller.

VULSANITH
Of all the beasts that inhabit Myrkr, none are greater or more proud than the Vulsanith. Though these colossal saurians are actually herbivores, they are ferociously territorial and remain the kings of the jungle, blazing trails through the undergrowth with their mighty bulk. Only out of desperation will packs of Sarcorahk attack them, fearful of the Vulsanith’s crushing weight and powerful jaws.

The Reshekki annual Great Vulsanith Hunt is one of their most celebrated festivals, due to its rarity and the amount of skill and effort required to take down the lumbering behemoths.

As a side note, I made up the Tyralisk, Sarcorahk, Vulsanith, but I did not believe they needed a species writeup as they are moderately generic and aren't exactly usable in RP outside of the planet. The only one that is technically "tameable" is the Tyralisk, but even then, it is too large for PC use.

@Shalken - I've discussed the approval of this planet with Clayton. Now, last timeline, Myrkr was banned, due to the can of worms it brought with it thanks to it's... unique, wildlife. The only way both Clayton and I will approve of this planet, is if you understand and consent to the fact that both Ysalamir AND Vornskr are BANNED, and any wildlife you might create for this planet, now or in the future, may in no way mimic or fill those same roles or abilities, and will result in the planet being banned. Permanently.

Thank you for looking it over. I was aware that the Ysalimiri were a banned species, but I hadn't read anything about the Vornskr. In any case, I've removed the Vornskr from the writeup and replaced them with another generic species. None of the creatures listed have any of the Force-related abilities that the Ysalimiri and Vornskr have, and none of them ever will.
