Nanbacaar

History and Culture

Overview — Since nearly the formation of the Cancardi there have been two separate factions — The Atraxi and the Xiac. These two separate clans or factions have lived on opposite hemispheres of the planet until they met 500 years ago. When they were first born the Cancardi had none of the emotional perception they would come to have. This shaped the history of the species and the planet.

Pre-Eksama

Beginnings —Thousands of years ago, the Cancardi's species came into existence on the planet of Nanbacaar. The Cancardi were a peaceful race initially, separated into two different clans — the Atraxi and the Xiac — each on the opposite hemisphere. The Atraxi are on the forested side and the Xiac are on the frozen. About 600 years ago, the two species met. They had relatively advanced societies at this point, and both decided to go on exploration of the rest of their large world. Both clans were shocked to discover that they have a sister race, with the only significant difference in the two being the color of skin. Relations began between these two factions and negotiations for resources and shared wealth began. Unfortunately, the demands of the Xiac were considered to be unreasonable by the Atraxi, and they denied their requests. Enraged at their refusal, the Xiac declared war on the Atraxi, and the two factions began a legendary war.

The Pax War — This was the first war between the Atraxi and the Xiac was a long and bloody one, lasting 149 years, and leaving a death toll over 20 million, with major losses on both sides. The war was fought for resources, land and power, with both sides hoping to claim some sort of victory over what they believed to be an inferior race. Initially racial discrimination was avoided, but the way that the Xiac attacked angered the Atraxi and led them to believing that their kin were brutes who were beneath them. The war was an almost perfect stalemates, and served to massively elevate the level of technology on Nanbacaar. Before the war they had not gone so far as to even accomplish aerial travel, though there were attempts at succeeding in this endeavor. Very shortly into the war, an Atraxi scientist by the name of Quora Ban'nan built the first aerial machine. From there an exponential progression led to massive advancements in aerial technology, resulting in attempts at space travel by the end of the war. Weaponry also advanced massively at this point, going so far as to create laser weaponry, bringing them closer to the rest of the galaxy. The war's conclusion resulted in an alliance formed between the Atraxi and the Xiac, one which would bring Nanbacaar into a time of great peace and accomplishment for the next 200 years.

The Alliance — Following the conclusion of the Pax war the Alliance was formed, and peace began. The nation was unified as both Atraxi and Xiac, destroying the faction system within just a few years, and leaving only one unified nation. All resources were shared and nothing was limited. The two sides helped provide what was missing for the other, and shared culture that was unique to their groups. Together scientists from both former factions worked together to advance the collective society, and accomplished the sought after space travel that would change the nation forever. On the day that the first manned shuttle with a destination that wasn't to one of the two moons would be launched, a terrorist attack occurred. The entirety of the aerospace facility was destroyed, as well as nearly 100,000 spectators, including the Cancardi president. The faction that claimed responsibility was an underground faction who declared themselves the Sha'akan — a faction composed of solely Atraxi extremists. They believed that it was against the gods' desire that they travel off world, as well as that it was against their desire that the Atraxi be on equal level with the Xiac. Their activities had been hidden perfectly until the moment that they shattered the nation with their attacks, and their faction rose up. The Shiman war was started.

The Shiman War — This was the first civil war to occur between separate factions in the alliance was between the Sha'akan and the remaining loyalists in the alliance. Sha'akan had gathered a following that was nearly 30% of the population, and though this was known to the government, they had believed the group to be protesters, and hadn't foreseen such violent attacks. As the war raged, the unprepared alliance members were crushed slowly. The Sha'akan quickly conquered the capital city of Nan'nakala, and forced the resistance into submission with brute force. The war was over in just ten years, with the nation being rebuilt under the ideals of the Sha'akan. Segregation was put in place, forcing formerly Xiac people into slavery and service. Any Atraxi who opposed this were killed. The Sha'akan had complete control in what became a military rule. The total death toll of the war, including the murders that occurred in slavery camps, became over 500 million.

The Hakai Tragedy and Evolution — This marked the most significant event since the founding of the creation of the Alliance. The Sha'akan had control of the nation for nearly 100 years before something happened that would rebuild the nation from the ground up. A resistance movement had been slowly building for that 100 years, laying in wait as they acquired weaponry and members. Any and all Cancardi that still believed in the ideals of the alliance were gathered up and inducted, until they had nearly the numbers the Sha'akan had when they attacked. Knowing that they couldn't win an all out war when the Sha'akan were so militant, the resistance set into action a single powerful attack that would devastate the nation more than even the Sha'akan attack had. At this point any recognition of collateral damage was not acknowledged, and the ruthlessness of the attack showed this. The entire capital city, which held nearly 30% of the population, was completely destroyed. Satellites launched by the resistance let loose orbital strikes on the entire city, killing an estimated 2.5 billion Cancardi, and destroying the longest-standing city in Cancardi history. This was when the evolution occurred. Dormant cells within all Cancardi were activated, letting the empathetic abilities manifest, and allowing them all to feel the emotions of those around them. Unable to control this new ability and striding in the wake of pure disaster, the Cancardi were forced to experience the devastation they had wrought, and through that pain understanding was born.

The Eksama Alliance and New Beginnings — This marked the end to war and aggression among the Cancardi. With the Sha'akan dead and the remaining Cancardi reformed from the newly acquired emotional sense, the nation began rebuilding itself in what became Eksama. A meeting was arranged between any remaining former Sha'akan leaders and the leaders of the resistance. It was unanimously agreed that the aggression had to end in order to survive, and that peace was necessary in order to live properly. This was the beginning of the Eksama alliance, and the restoration of peace throughout the nation. This alliance remains and has ushered in times of great advancement, and planetary exploration. Eksama was the beginning of Nanbacaar joining the rest of the galaxy.

Geography and Astronomy

Overview — The planet's position relative to the sun, as well as its axis of rotation, causes Nanbacaar to have two drastically different biomes. This is because only one half of the planet experiences sunlight from the primary star in the Corellian system. The other half of the planet only experiences ambient light from reflections off of the surface of the two moons orbiting Nanbacaar. This light is still dim, but is sufficient for life on the surface. These two different biomes are a dense and warm jungle with heavy rainfall, and a frozen tundra of ice and rock. The split is almost perfectly halfway, and the hemispheres are nearly equal in size. In terms of astronomy, Nanbacaar is a large planet relatively close to the sun in the system. The distance is not too close that it would make it too warm or make the vegetation get damaged, nor too far that it wouldn't provide sufficient light for growth. There are two moons orbiting Nanbacaar, and an asteroid belt consistently visible in the ambient light of the frozen side. Though it is behind the moons, its expanse makes it easily visible. The exact planetary location is L-12. As part of the Corellian system, Nanbacaar is in a system with several other planets, both inhabitable and non-inhabitable.

The Forest

Overview — The Forest of Nanbacaar is very dense and humid. The position of the planet relative to the sun is such that the planet life gets an optimal amount of light, but does not get damaged much by the radiation. This also provides an optimal amount of warmth that isn't sweltering. The forest life is very similar to the life found in rain forests, but there is little to know complex life, meaning there is nothing but vegetation. There are a few small insects, but none of any significance.

The Tundra

Overview — The tundra of Nanbacaar is a cold, dark rock. While there is ambient light sufficient for operation, it is still quite dark. There is no life above the surface here, and none worth mentioning below it. This planet is, for all intents and purposes, lifeless excluding the Cancardi. It is unknown for this reason how the Cancardi have managed to survive and come into existence on this planet.

Resources and Trade

Overview — Nanbacaar has a slightly below average market as far as foods and other common goods go. Main exports of Nanbacaar include the Lunari stone, which is extremely precious and is often exported in jewelry form. The Lunari stone is rumored to be capable of sustaining a lightsaber blade, but few are willing to attempt it, due to the Lunari stone's volatile nature. The stone's properties include light absorption and refraction. The stone holds light for weeks, month or even years at a time, depending on the size, quality and exposure. Their appearance is similar to that of moonstones, but is transparent and more milky or pearly, though they can be found in clear and messy variety. Another main export is wood, as the forested side of the planet provides great wealth in that area, though due to the value that the Cancardi place on nature that resource is limited somewhat until more trees grow. Due to the size of the planet however, this is not a problem.

Government and Population

Overview — The government has a system similar to that found in ancient Rome, in the time of Caesar, but is a more perfected version. There is a group of officials that rotates regularly, with a large pool of potential candidate being used. Rather than elections, there is a screening process and approval process that candidate must go through, and if they qualify they are put into a queue. The rotation schedule is every year, with half of the six-person group leaving at a time. The only member who does not rotate is the Cancardi who is at the very top. This position is only replaced after they either step down, which is not uncommon, or they die. This serves to prevent the members of the board to become too engrossed in their power. This is something the main leader is susceptible to, but is generally avoidable due to the understanding ways of the Cancardi. In addition this allows a diverse voice in the operation of the country, helping to prevent one idea from being the solely important or actively enacted one. Aside from the face of the government, there is an enforcement system that is quite formidable. This system is one with the military system they have, and it occupies approximately 6% of the population. All members of this force are trained heavily for combat, despite their pacifistic tendencies. This force has not been necessary in civil matters for more than simple crimes since the formation of Eksama. The population is over 86% Cancardi, with the remaining 14% being divided into about 6% being humans, and the other 8% being a large mixture of species.

Technology and Intent

Overview — The technological level of Nanbacaar is the same as that of other high-up worlds, such as Corellia or Coruscant. The intent is to help spread peace throughout the galaxy, and to gain a greater influence and say in all matters therein, as this is seen as the best way to help spread understanding.

Just a thought from somebody really into Star Wars cartography I'd change cords from M-11, M-11 is super crowded and for my sake and to fill holes in the map might I suggest moving it toM-12, N-11 or L-12? You don't have to, it's just a thought.

Happy to move it to L12! Thanks!

Maybe I'm just reading it wrong, but the intent doesn't make sense to me. How is it to spread peace or influence? It'll fall under the Corellian Senator's purview. Also, how did it manage to have such a long history without intervention/interference from the galaxy, let alone Corellia and its sibling planets? Especially since this planet is located in the Goldilocks Zone of the Corellian System with the other planets.

I definitely see your points. :D This is the result of me working on it spottily over weeks or months. I will edit it to make the intent and such make sense, as well as remove it from the Corellian system most likely. Would that be acceptable you think?

@Bigfatpenn has Amana, which I think only recent delved into space exploration too. You could talk to him about maybe being in the same system. Allows for some interesting interactions/relations between your two species/planets.

Oh! I just remembered. My reasoning for why the rest of the Corellian system had not interacted with Nanbacaar much was because of the radiation. As you said it is a dangerous thing, and it has decreased the lifespan of the theoretical species that live there. This would deter anyone from going there to inhabit it. That doesn't mean I am not making the changes you suggested though, because I understand that is a shady reasoning I have. I just wanted to say that I wasn't completely without thought about that problem.@Dmitri

Even though Cancardi is dead, do you think this planet has potential if I change the story to exclude any Cancardi influence and instead make something else the primary species? I am working on plans with Penn to see if he would be open to the idea of sharing our own planet system.

Possibly. Do you guys want to combine this one into Penn's thread or keep them separate? I'm able to merge these threads if desired
