Hi all. You’ve probably noticed on the front page that we now have a donation system set up, because we’re looking for you guys to help us continue to sustain this site with its ever-increasing costs.

As it says there on the front page, we always have increasing bandwidth costs, hosting service costs, domain registration, software licensing fees, and maintenance costs. After all, we have over 24,000 threads, over half a million posts, and over 2,500 users - and then there’s uploaded avatars, signatures, personal images, emoticons, etc. We’re no small operation anymore!

Right now our goal is $400 USD, which should last us about five or six months. If we get more than that, that’s fine! If we get less than that, that’s OK too. We can work with it, but we’re hoping to get to that goal. You can help!

The donation system is simple enough. When you see it on the front page, click the yellow donation button. The donation details section will allow you to set the donation amount; the standard amounts are $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100, but you can set a custom amount too. We appreciate anything that you can give us that will bring us towards our goal!

You may be wondering what’s in it for you. Well first and foremost, the continued operation of this site. Right now one person (Hassan) is paying for the site, but only for a little while longer, at which point there’ll be a change up in who pays - beyond just this donation system.

Remember that without all of this money being spent, there would be no SWRP, at least not on vBulletin or anything else that requires payment.

But since it’s good to give everyone and incentive and thanks for donating, there will be a few things we can guarantee. You’ll get a bigger PM inbox so you can have more PMs. We’re also going to give you some sort of donator badge; we don’t know when or how, to be honest, but we’re working on that and it will be done. Unlike the last time we did donations, we can’t give everyone colors. However, if you donate $50 or more, you will receive light blue colors sported by users like Mulluns.

So that’s that. You’ll probably still have some questions, but Hassan knows more about this than me - and he’s the one whose account it goes to - so I’ll let him answer most of the questions.

Please consider donating! I’ve already started us off with 130 dollars, so we’re already 33% of the way there. We appreciate any help you can give!

Why not just delete some of the old stuff no one actually recognizes anymore. Like the people that signed up and just kind of left without even making a post. Bet there is a lot of them. You could also delete those who have been gone for a year with no prior reason.

Best idea ever.

We're not going to delete people's accounts, or old threads, or old posts. It just won't happen.

Fair enough. I don't really care if you pay for people that don't even come.

Also, just to mention, the money you send will be put into Hassan's PayPal account, so there's a decent chance you'll be financing terrorism.

Every dollar counts so don't be a dick about it people. This is the start of every time you see the word dick you have to give 100 dollars you dick. So don't be a dick and add the money.

By my count you have already paid off the goal. You are a dick.

Why not? We do not have 2500 active members. Not even half that. If people want to come back and actually contribute, then fine, they can make new accounts. And as for old threads, shit's gotta go somewhere sometime. We can cut the costs basically in half by doing some pruning.

From the numbers you've given us, that's about a thousand dollars a year, and it's only going to get bigger. We've already had to backtrack on site expansion due to technical difficulties, which I'm going to assume wasted monies as well. It's simply not practical to just continue growing and not attempt to cut costs. We have to think about the future, not hold on to archived shit from half a decade ago.
