Thoughts of the new president elect? Do you think he'll do a good job?

Please keep the thread civil. Most of us are adults and should act accordingly.

No idea. America just gambled it's life into the tiny fingered hands of Trump.... God help us.

Trump by himself can only go so far. People focus on the presidential candidates as who will bring forth laws. They can encourage Congress to do stuff, but it's Congress that writes and passes laws (with the president approving or rejecting). However, if memory serves Republicans kept control of Congress, so he may get more of what he wants.

There is only one thing that can save me now:

Lethargy and blatant denial of everything that's occurred.

...

Oh, Trump won the Presidency?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As many others I wouldn't consider Trump to be trustworthy, but I got the feeling his advisors will manage to keep him somewhat tamed and will hopefully be capable of preventing the president embarrassing himself and the nation on global stage (other than the campaign because that one is always dirty)
The candidates this time have both been highly unpopular, however at least I got the feeling people have made the right decision, so I'm looking into the future with a positive mindset :)

Btw: if any of you guys want to leave the US now (I see tweets like that a lot xD) I still got a free sofa in my living room over in Germany ^^ I can offer beer and sweets to cheer you up.

His acceptance speech was surprisingly... Polite and humble? If we see that Trump these 4 years then there is hope. If we see the one that we've seen... I don't know.

Agreed, Lyanna. The Cabinet can help. Has there been word on who will serve in it?

I am curious to find out of he's actually going to go through with that "special prosecution" he promised for Hillary.

We just got to wait and see since its only been a day. I though expect at least one cheating scandal, simply cause trump isn't the most loyal of people already. But that's just my only predication, my ability to into the future seems have stopped working....

The suspense is killing me. I want to be half-way into his presidency already to see whatever happens. Having to wait 2 more months for his inaugural alone is putting knots in my stomach.

But my current guess is none of it can be good. But blame it on the Dem leadership, deciding to back such an abominable candidate, literally the only person in their entire party that they could have picked that would have a chance at losing against Trump, and pushing away their voters on a consistent basis. Bernie would have positively crushed this election, but, nah. We voted for a warmongering, corrupt neocon on one side and an insane, equally corrupt reality star on the other, and this is what we've gotten as a result. The worst election since...has there ever been an election this bad in history? Probably not. We should just have 2016 stricken from the record tbh.

Perhaps if Hillary had been genuine with her supporters she could've won. All I can recall, after having gone to two of her rallies in Pittsburgh to take notes and such, is her ragging on trump and failing to address the massive issues she had as a candidate that led to her downfall yesterday. Much like Trump, she played to her base expecting it would be large enough, playing a dangerous gamble and underestimating her opponent's populist appeal (which she has so very little of to begin with). She didn't play to win, she played like she had already won.

I am having a REALLY bad day for non-election related reasons, so I apologize if this comes off as insulting to anyone. I'm not insulting the supporters of either candidate, I respect their convictions, especially those of Trump supporters for standing up in the face of a media that literally wanted them ground to dust. But I'm just...

I would've been enraged either way this election went, to be honest, but this is not what i had expected in the slightest. The silent majority is silent no longer.

Huh. The Canadian immigration site crashed.

@Kaane - The main factor is the electoral college. Trump obtained enough electoral votes, but lost the popular vote by 150,000 votes. In all honesty, the electoral college needs to be fixed or nixed, because it makes no sense to have a 'winner take all' system.

omfg you're right. Lol. Can we expect a lawsuit from the Clinton campaign? Or are they just so ashamed of getting beat by their own system they'll back down.

The electoral college also doesn't support a third party. We still have two more months of Father Obama to guide us. Though tbh if Trump can put through Term Limits on Congress, that's one thing I'll be happy for. Same with lobbyist regulations.

If I got the choice between seeing him cheating his wife and cheating the nationI know what to pick xD But I totally get where you're coming from.

@Kaane
I'm sorry you're having a bad day already :( This must be the final straw then >_< And I agree that both candidates were not the best choices. It was some weird year... However maybe in four years we can hope for better candidates for both parties and see a debate not as nasty and filled with scandals. I honestly believe there are paladins and devils on both sites and I just pray the next time around you will have the two best, not worst, candidates running.
Get yourself some tea for that knots in your stomach and in the worst case scenario my sofa, beer and sweets offer still stands <3
