This is relevant to the Rebel character I'm making.

How does the Rebellion handle capital punishment? Considering that even our modern militaries- which have some pretty decent background check/psych-exam procedures -still let the occasional rapist/murderer/deranged fellow slip the cracks, it seems inevitable that a organization like the Rebellion, whhich recruits hundreds if not thousands of personnel in a fast-and-loose manner from every aspect of Galactic society, is going to have its share of bad apples. There's probably quite a lot of people who have an axe to grind with the Empire but aren't exactly good folks themselves.

Question is, what do they do with them? Let's say you have a Rebel member who was caught during a combat-mission gunning down a civilian and stealing her jewelry. Well, the Rebellion doesn't have a "jail" so you can't imprison him, and simply kicking him out the organization is asking for the guy to tell everything he knows about the Rebellion to your enemies.

Simply executing him is probably the most practical solution, but that seems a little dark for the Rebellion.

Anyway, any thoughts?

While we rebels are not like the Empire when it comes to this issue yet at the same time we're not exactly like the Jedi in that regard either at least in my point of view. The example you present is something that would be a challenging problem for the resistance movement to deal with. Whatever decision is made I think someone or a few more in the Rebel leadership would likely work on this. Ideally it would be great to have possible Jedi involvement to resolve such trouble since we're are allies and they're experts on matters of justice.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-judicial_punishment

- Arrest in quarters
- Admonition or reprimand
- Forfeiture of pay
- Extra duties, including fatigue or other duties
- Restriction with extra duties

Some pretty good ideas from there, I think. Depends on the severity of the crime, obviously.

Lashings. One for each headache you give the rebel leader.

If your body never makes it back to base then it's just my word against not yours. Saves on paperwork :ahhhha:

On a more serious note, there is precedent in the old Rebellion of military court marshals to judge crimes such as treason, which would be a crime of equalish magnitude, and the death penalty is on the table. We don't need a static prison to keep you in when any capital ship worth the scrap metal its built of will have a brig.

Unpaid labor with the GM's baby. That is how the Jedi will forever punish everyone.

Good think Jake is a good boy. Because I would rather take the lashings.

Great question, Blaxican. I don't really have an answer for it, except to say that this is giving me some cool ideas for rebel-specific missions.

Proving Innocence and Damning with Guilt. :D

We'd probably need a Code of Law of sorts detailing possible offences and their punishments. Treason being the worst.

Thanks for all the excellent replies, ladies and gents. With all these constructive comments, I almost feel like an asshat for making this goofy, comic-book-as-**** proposal.

The reason I ask about the Rebellion's stance on punishment is because I'm making a Rebel and I was wondering if the character concept would fly. This fellow is a former soldier for the Sith Empire (which is something he keeps to himself) who joined up with the Rebellion some years after the war's end. In the present, he's a Commander in the Rebellion and his cell of troopers is specifically made up of reassigned Rebel troops who were convicted of various serious crimes and sentenced to... whatever the Rebellion does to people who commit serious crimes.

In a nut-shell, the cell would be comprised of individuals who can't be used by the rest of the faction due to their unethical behavior, but still possess skills and a hatred for the Empire that can be harnessed for the war effort. This cell would spend the majority of its time isolated from the rest of the Rebellion, performing missions that are high-risk and that are away from major civilian centers. My character would keep them in line through draconian disciplinary measures that the Rebel leaders generally prefer to not ask questions about.

Is this something that you guys who run the faction think would be tenable?
