Things were moving faster now.

Well, actually strictly speaking things were moving slowing.

The Fox Squirrel had just transitioned back to normal space pretty far from Elrood itself, along with a small contingent of other Rebel ships. A couple gunships, some fighters, nothing much.

Certainly nothing to be scared of.

Your typical small, ragtag bunch of Rebels on the run, running as fast as their stubby sublight engines would carry them.

And what were they running from in this instance?

Just a monstrous Star Destroyer with massive fucking beam cannons, and a small swarm of highly advance starfighters jumping out of hyperspace just behind them.

Almost immediately the Star Destroyer fired those massive fucking beam cannons.

There was almost (almost) no danger of the beam cannons hitting any of the Rebel ships, but the gaggle had dropped out of hyperspace at a pretty far distance from Elrood.

Which meant that they were facing Elrood.

Which was a pretty big trade hub, and a starship manufacturer to boot.

And those beam cannons had good pretty good range.

The beams shot past the Fox Squirrel and the Rebel ships, it even shot past most of the local traffic in orbit of Eriadu. But not all of it. A couple of big freighters were struck, by the beam, and exploded rather suddenly. It wasn't one of those 'the beam somehow magically cuts through them really slow so the camera can pan in and catch every detail in high definition' but a shot, an explosion, and debris. It was a bit chilling really, and it was only then that the implications of what they were doing really struck home for Andrena.

As the Vindictive, the star destroyer chasing them, was not in fact hostile to the Rebel ships. It was putting on a good show, and it even had some scoring across the hull and a little damage here and there to indicate that the scene playing out was the result of a larger battle further down the Rimma Trade Route. Not unreasonable as a rather mysterious group had been using ships reputedly of a similar make to raise hell all along the trade route. And Elrood was the only major industrial center rimward.

How the Rebellion had acquired one, Andrena didn't know. An Alliance vet would probably just say something like 'above my paygrade' but as far as Andrena was concerned there was no such thing. She was immensely curious, and far too opinionated to let something like that go. But she was also on the lowest rung of the Rebellion's ladder, so it wasn't like anyone cared that she was, much less was going to hell her anything about it.

Though unknown to her, and probably a great deal of the Rebellion, it had in fact been purchased along with a few other models of the same make, by a mixture of funs by the mysterious "Rainbow Leader" or "M" or whatever the hell it was this week. Also unbeknownst to them was just how deep some of the ties between the organization that built the Star Destroyer and the Rebellion went these days.

But none of that was particularly important.

The Rebellion was taking advantage of another threat, a credible one, to turn manufacture a situation that would put them in the good graces of Elrood.

The Vindictive was doing exactly what it was supposed to by shooting at them. Her main guns (other than the giant fucking beam cannons) fired at the ragtag assembly of Rebel ships, and the complement of fighters chased after them. The firepower was very real, there couldn't be any fancy tricks with low powered shots, or anything like that if they were going to sell it. It meant the risk to the Rebels was immense, as none of them were going to not shoot at each other, and even greater to the locals.

That was the part that had Andrena's stomach in a knot. She wasn't some hypocritical Jedi, or punk idealist who had no idea how the galaxy worked. It was why she'd agreed to participate in the first place, and she was willing to bet that most of the other participants did as well. The Rebellion was probably better off now than it had been a few months ago, certainly better off than it had been in the doldrums before Naboo when rescuing a Mandalorian dumb enough to let himself get captured (and subsequently killed) was considered big news.

The Imperium was still just a little bit larger, and the Rebels needed every edge they could get. And they needed to acquire those edges as qucikly as possible, as cheaply as possible. They didn't have time to play "let me solve all your problems for you so you agree to help us" with every planetary governor that had enough authority to make a Rattataki warlord jealous.

They needed assets like the shipyards Elrood had, and they needed them fast. If that meant a false flag operation, and probably a lot of little political fallout when everything was said and done, so be it. As long as there was a future where the worst things they were talking about were how the Rebellion had tricked people into helping them take down the evil Empire that gallivanted about destroying planets, and trying to justify genocide.

So Andrena's stomach might be in knots over the idea that innocents might die to help ensure the Rebellion could stop more innocents from dying.

But other than that?

She kept flying.

The Fox Squirrel was trailing two of the Predators in front, with the Starchiefs flying in a missing man formation with the freighter. Behind them were the two gunships, and behind them an additional two predators. On top, and bottom of the ragtag group were the last two Predators, turning the small group in a well packed formation. The fighters chasing them weren't carrying any big area of effect ordinance, and staying close let them provide fire support to the others. The only real danger was that the "enemy" fighters might try to peal a ship or two off and compromise the rest of the group.

The Vindictive was following them, though not especially fast. It wasn't trying to let them get away so much as it was trying to assess the situation, and get the lay of the land. The opening salvo from its guns had probably sent everything closer to Elrood itself into chaos, which would give the Star Destroyer time to analyze things and assess the strength of the local defense force. Of course, another reason was so that it didn't get so close to allow boarding parties to try to make their way onto the ship. That might have ended...unfortunately, and half the fighters it had brought along hung back to give it cover from exactly that, with six forming up near each of the big guns.

Once they were a good distance from the big ship, and had put on enough of a little show, Andrena started broadcasting.

"This is Rebel Task Force Hydra requesting assistance. We are under attack by an unknown enemy. Repeat, this is Rebel Task Force Hydra requesting assistance. We are under attack by an unknown enemy."

It was about that simple.

Meanwhile in hyperspace a much larger group of Rebel ships (the real Task Force Hydra) headed towards the system at a gentle pace. They didn't want to show up too soon after all, but they also didn't want to show up too late. They wanted to get there just in time to let Elrood get a little roughed up and maybe to be...well the phrase big damn heroes was tired, cliche, and overused.

Maybe just the good guys?

It had been a deep sleep. The sky above Morellia looked especially harsh as Eli opened his eyes to witness it. He had slept outside. Needing a break from the interior of a starship, or barracks. The day would happen quickly, he rubbed his face and went back inside his cottage, through the sanisteamer and got dressed, his duster freshly oiled and patched from the episode on Corellia. The Morellian put on a pot of caf on and quickly poured himself a mug once it finished brewing. Just as he took his first sip, Dan burst through the door.

"Captain, distress call relayed by Rebel Command. 'This is Rebel Task Force Hydra requesting assistance. We are under attack by an unknown enemy. Repeat, this is Rebel Task Force Hydra requesting assistance. We are under attack by an unknown enemy.' Captain I have taken the liberty of confirming to Rebel Command that we are mobilizing and on our way, shall I belay that Captain?"

Eli responded swiftly, turning to his wardrobe he removed his gun and saber belt and fastened it around his duster.

"Negative Liutenant, is the crew ready?"

"As ready as they can be Captain, we have yet to put the Shrike through her paces."

The Morellian stroked his beard. "Has the Conglomerate completed its modifications?"

"Aye Captain, reactive hull, mass-drivers, and all other systems operational."

Captain of the Morellian Enforcers, Elijah Hardin took a deep breath and lit a cigarra and put it to his lips. "Prepare the Enforcers for an operation, Liuetuenant. I want to leave ASAP." He had already begun walking towards the hangar behind Enforcer HQ. Enforcers everywhere were rushing about. There had been a mass recruitment since Eli's impassioned speech following the pirate debacle and Parliament's ordering of him to make contact with the Rebellion. The people of The Morellian Commonwealth knew the stakes and would do everything they could to see the Imperium deposed and a force-religion free institution in it's place. They would fight as hard as any just cause could afford one to, to the death.

"They've already been mobilized Captain, the Deputies have been assigned to the few freighters we have. All ships are being crewed as we speak and should be ready to depart as soon as you're on board, Sir."

Eli had to take a moment and breath in the new Shrike-Class Corvette. An elaborate mission awarded them the plans to the vessel from the CEC. It was top-of-the-line, new and improved by the Morellian Weapons Conglomerate. Specifically by installing two huge 15cm mass-driver cannons and enhanced hull-plating. She had the capacity for two starfighters and was combat-ready. The Captain was proud of the Morellian's flagship. His old bird, Susannah, berthed just next to her was being boarded by one of the newest deputies. Eli hoped that he would take good care of her and bring her home safe. She was still Eli's but there was a bigger mission now and everything was now property of the mission.

The Captain rushed to the bridge of the Shrike-Class corvette and his crew was looking to him for orders. Beata, Torie, Dan, and all the old friends and new recruits were gazing to him for inspiration. None of them had ever experienced combat on this scale before; all of them were Enforcer trained and fully capable individuals, but handling a .48 and operating in a fleet capacity were two entirely separate things. This would be a pivotal moment for the Morellian Enforcers. If they succeeded, a name would be made across the galaxy. If they failed, a generation of keen, strong-willed young people would be lost. Eli cleared his throat and keyed the interfleet communications contact.

"At 0600 hours today we received a request for reinforcements from Rebel Command. They are launching a major offensive on the shipyards of Eriadu, Elrood. We are tasked with supporting this fleet-action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the moment which makes or breaks history. The Rebellion is at a crucial point in their fight against the tyranny that has oppressed our people for too long. This is the moment where we, as Morellians, make a name for ourselves in the Rebellion. This is the moment when the galaxy recognizes that the inhabitants of Wild Space can no longer be overlooked. This is the moment where historians decide on whom to name in the epic tomes. This is the moment where we ride to battle and emerge victorious. To battle. To victory. To greatness. For Morellia!"

With that he inputed the coordinates for the jump to Eriadu, issued orders from his command console to lift off, break atmosphere and rally around the Shrike-Class upon entry.

-------------

Moments later with the sounds of klaxons ringing throughout the bridge the ship cracked out of the bright blue cylinder that was hyperspace and Eriadu seemed to magnify as they shot closer and slowed to impulse just out of range of the combat zone.

"Scramble the fighters. Freighters and fighters form up, call-sign Satyr Squadron. Stay behind us until we are in range, only engage the fighters once they've broke for our fleet. Use the cover of our shields and operate only within the fire arc of our turbolasers and MD cannons. Susannah, you have squadron control. Godspeed Jaleer."

Eli switched frequency to Rebellion broad-wave.

"Attention Rebellion Fleet, this is Elijah Hardin of the Morellian Enforcers and member of the Galactic Rebellion. We are responding to your call for reinforcements, our assets are that of one corvette, two fighters, three freighters, all combat armed and capable reporting for duty and requesting orders. You may address our group by it's flagship."

It hadn't been until just now that Eli was able to pick a name for the Shrike-class corvette. He smiled and looked at his XO, a YVH named Dan,

"Her name is Hyperion."

What the kriff is a Morellian Enforcer?

Morellian? Morellian....Morellian, Morellian, Morellian, Morellia!

Andrena knew where that was, being an amatuer navigator aspiring to be a professional one. She knew it was on the opposite side of the galaxy from Elrood. She knew that if these Enforcers were from it, they would have had to travel through the bulk of Independent Space, and Imperium Space, including several fortified areas in order to get there. The odds of them accomplishing that in the time frame between her sending the message, and now, were astonishingly low unless their entire fleet was operating .000000000000000009 hyperdrives. It was a physical impossibility, and so Andrena discarded the thought out of hand.

The other option was that they'd been nearby, which was more likely, but had a lot more unfortunate implications for the security of the plan. If a group from all the way across the galaxy had learned enough of the operation to get in place before she'd even sent the distress call...well that meant that this Elijah would have a lot of explaining to do. Come to think of it, he'd have a lot of explaining to do even if the first option was a possibility since it still implied some rather nasty connections with the Imperium, and even if there weren't any, that the Imperium could have followed them.

It was a FALSE FLAG operation. You weren't supposed to invite everyone and their mother to it. If the Elijah character was telling the truth, and was indeed a member of the Rebellion, he probably wouldn't be in trouble for simply trying to help, save for the implications above. Buy it did mean that there was no way they could continue with things. There were just too many ifs on the security issue at this point, and it had only just begun.

Well......kriff.

The operation was very clearly blown, so Andrena turned hard away from Elrood, and the rest of the ships in the rag tag Rebel group followed her. The Vindictive also turned to follow them. No one dared answer the Hyperion's transmission, and in fact Andrena cycled to a backup encrypted channel that they hopefully didn't have access to. To the outside world, it would appear as though the Rebels were trying to lead the larger ship away from Elrood

It was about then that the rest of Taskforce Hydra showed up. When they did, they'd be able to see very clearly that things weren't going as planned.

As soon as they did, Andrena opened her comm on the backup channel," Code Ackbar Endor, repeat Code Ackbar Endor."

AKA- everything had gone to shit. It was a trap! Just general, we need to get out of here now.

But do it in a way that maintained cover.

So with the larger Rebel Force now behind the Vindictive, Andrena's little group circled around to make a run at the ship itself. They'd run right past it, shooting it up a little, getting shot up a little, and join with the Hydra. It would then turn into the mouse chasing the Cat. The Rebel fleet together would continue to follow the Vindictive until she calculated the jump to light speed, and then they'd follow suit, with the implication being that they were chasing her to another system.

If the Hyperion and her merry band of "helpers" attempted to follow...well Andrena couldn't do anything to gurantee their safety, and wouldn't. Neither would anyone else in the Hydra Task Force.

Dan turned from his command console looking as quizzical as a YVH droid could look, "No response, Captain." Eli stroked his beard and held his hand up to Dan signaling him to hold position. His XO keying the instructions on the com panel. Something wasn't right. Eli couldn't figure out what it was, but something was seriously out of place. He held his ships in position. It became clear when a rebel fleet jumped in system. The Captain lowered his head, he had realized what had happened. The element of surprise had been lost. Somewhere down the command line there had been a miscommunication. Initiative was sacrificed and it was very likely that he would be getting a frustrated communique from Rebel Command about how he had blown an op. Eli pushed those thoughts out of his mind, he had a job to do.

"XO! I want a SitRep. Firestation, get the attention of the Star Destroyer bearing down on the freighter. Full salvo. Satyr squadron, hold defensive positions."

Determined to make up for the initial blunder Eli would at least see that the freighter wasn't lost and could reach it's home fleet undamaged. Flashes Lanced and the ship rumbled as the turbolasers and mass driver cannons opened up on the ship designated Vindictive. Hyperion's engines glowed as she burned fast to intercept the Star Destroyer and cover the freighter's retreat. After interception, the Hyperion would attempt to form up with the rebel fleet.

"Raise me the Hydra!"

The communications officer turned to his captain, "channel open sir."

"Rebel Flagship, this is Morellian Corvette Hyperion requesting instructions. We are attempting to cover the freighter on it's retreat. Please advise. Hyperion, out."

Eli waved his hand at his neck signaling for the officer to end transmission.

"Helmsman, put a karking hole in that Star Destroyer. We may have ruiined an operation, but at least we can take a ship-of-the-line down."

The captain snuffed a cigarra angrily under his boot and slammed his fist on his command console.
