PERSONALITY:
Shao'andre was known to his fellows as something of a free spirit. Amongst the Jedi he came ever rarely to meetings, except when they were of the utmost importance, although he respected the bounds of his apprenticeship and went where his master commanded. He would tend to disappear for periods of time, and wandered often on his own. Restless by nature, Shao'andre rarely stayed in any one place for long when he had the choice, isolating himself in his travels. He seemed to have a connection with the earth, and would commonly go to be with nature in his free time, a trait that stems from the Felucian shamans' connection with their Force-abundant planet. In addition to this, he was somewhat carefree, often making light of his own troubles, and tended to act somewhat erratically, following his whim except when greater matters restrained him.
In spite of this, Shao'andre, having been trained as a shaman to care deeply about and take seriously dire matters, forwent his own desires and tendencies when he deemed events serious enough to require it. He would forget his wanderings when matters were grave, and was determined in his work, not restraining himself from speaking his mind. If he felt something important enough, he would speak of it without restraint, and commonly spoke out on matters in which he disagreed with others. If his counsel were ignored, he would often become headstrong, and take matters into his own hands. When given a task of importance, he would lose his carefree demeanor and present himself with the utmost seriousness. If he could distance himself from such events, however, as he was wont to do if he felt he could do so with easy conscience, he would make light of it all.
BIOGRAPHY:
Shao'andre was born on the Felucian homeworld of Felucia, in the Outer Rim, in the time of his birth out of control of any Empire. From an early age Shao'andre was interested in his people's culture and connection with the planet around them via their Force-sensitivity. Acknowledging his interest in this matter, and recognizing the talent in him, he was called to join the shamans of the Felucians. He was trained in their rituals and became a member of high-standing in the Shamans, as they saw his natural talent. As one of the spiritual leaders of his race, and member of an upper caste, he advised chieftains and taught of the Force, in addition to being a healer and defender from wild animals. He would often go out into the forests and watch the animals, befriending in particular a Gelagrub, which became his pet. However, one day a threat came to them greater than that of wild Rancor or any such animal.
When Shao'andre was eleven, Felucians encountered for the first time the tendrils of the Hutt Empire, grasping beyond its borders to see what lay there. After a number of peaceful encounters, the Hutts attempted to colonize Felucia, at first trying a peaceful takeover by subjugating the Felucians beneath their rule. When this was resisted, the Hutts retreated, seeming to have given up their colonization, and the Felucians were glad. The shamans, however, sensed the intents of the Hutts were not so benign, and the chieftains were gradually persuaded that the attempts at ruling Felucia were not completely abated. Gathering Felucians, they were ready when the Hutts returned in greater numbers, with other races as soldiers. At first waging a somewhat successful war against the invaders, if not entirely as they wished, Shao'andre believed that they could repel the invaders, and was glad. Then, the Hutts, frustrated by the resistance, received reinforcements in the form of Taung, their Empire's elite warriors. The resistance was crushed, and the majority of the Felucians were subjugated.
Following their victory, the Hutts left a small presence, including elite guards of Taung, on the planet to hold it, and left. Shao'andre, along with most others of his kind, resigned themselves to their lot, at least until such time as the Hutts weakened. A number of others, however, were not so satisfied, and led by Shao'andre's former mentor, the only shaman who would join them, waged a guerilla war against the conquerors. At first steadfast against joining them, Shao'andre was swayed by his mentor's ideology, and joined the rebellion as its second shaman. For a time, he felt as if he was fulfilling his purpose by aiding his people.
One day, however, a stranger came in secret to the planet, and was received by the shamans. These sent a summons out to Shao'andre and his mentor, who would disagree over a response. Shao'andre wished to respond, while his mentor declined scornfully. Reminding him of their origins, Shao'andre eventually persuaded his mentor to go. Once there he discovered to his horror that he and his mentor had been deemed to be too consumed by his anger, and were thought to have begun to turn to the Dark Side. The stranger was a human Jedi, who had been summoned to deal with them, as the shamans did not know if they were strong enough to arrest Shao'andre and his mentor, two of their strongest. The Jedi, however, judged Shao'andre not to be corrupted, and stated that one of his talent would be better off trained as one of the Jedi Order. Unwilling to go, Shao'andre refused unless his mentor would be spared. Unsure of his appraisal, the Jedi tested him by stating that to spare his mentor, Shao'andre must choose another to throw into the Sarlacc's pit, as was done with Dark-turned shamans. Shocked, Shao'andre refused, and having confirmed that Shao'andre was not of the Dark Side, the Jedi told him that there was no way to redeem his mentor, and took Shao'Andre to Alderaan for training as a Jedi.
