Welcome one and all to the glorious sport of shockball! Ever wondered what would happen if you combined a game of catch, dodgeball and dangerous electrical currents? No need, it’s already been done. Are you loyal to the Imperial Republica and want to garner attention? Becoming a famous shockball player could help you do that. Are you a sith of the Old Empire, believing only the strong should rule? Prove your beliefs in matches to the death and reap the rewards. Are you a Mandalorian Clan looking to prove you can enter anyone’s territory and best them in combat? Challenge an enemy team to a match and show them your Mandalorian culture! Are you a rebel, looking for support for the Alliance? Show them what it means to have something to fight for besides money and fame, and you just might attract some new allies! Are you bored? Go kill some fools for cash! Shockball!
So, I’m making this is interest check to see how many people would want to participate in something like this. Shockball has recently been brought into site canon as a collaborative effort and the lore article can be found here. If you want the short version, shockball is a combination of the ring game from Tron and dodgeball. Teams can throw the ball to each other or at any enemy player. If the enemy’s hit, they’re not unconscious or killed depending where you’re playing. The reason I and several others made this lore article was to add to this timeline and flesh it out a little more. It could add some cool pvp and pve opportunities.
I apologize if I’m a little scatterbrained with my delivery. Here are just a few story possibilities I came up with. Matches between teams funded or made up of members from opposing factions. A shockball match as the backdrop for tense intrigue between higher ups, gamblers and spies. Teams made up entirely of PCs going against one another in PvP with valuable tech/territory/credits on the line.
These are just a few examples. Again, interest could range from as low as just using it as a brief plot point to characters written specifically for this purpose going against each other in the sport’s equivalent of the Super Bowl. If any of these interest you or get your creative juices flowing please let me know as I think this could be a really fun addition. Feel free to share ideas for teams, stories, characters and more! If this gets you in the mood to start right away I am readily available :)
