PERSONALITY:
Sinya is not exactly a prime example of your stereotypical Sith. While he may anger easily, he does not often show it, instead maintaining a cool, calculating demeanour. He has a tendency to insult people, but does it in such an off-hand, calm way that amusingly enough(to Sinya at least) serves to magnify the insult.

Sinya is something of a socio path. Instead of simply lashing out at a foe in anger, he tends to plot and plan, striking only when the moment is right to provide the best effect to him. He is not naturally cruel, however, and unlike some will not lash out and cause pain when it is not needed. While he will not hesitate to kill an opponent or someone who is an obstacle to his goals, by the same token he will not strike down someone who poses him no threat or is not a hindrance.

BIOGRAPHY:
Age 0-5

Sinya was born on Nal Hutta, the son of a pair of slaves in Keshua the Hutt's palace. Being property of the Hutt, his parents were not permitted to name their child, and Keshua had something of a sense of humour. He commanded that the young boy would be named Sinya, a female name in the Twi'lek language, a double insult, seeing as Sinya was neither female nor twi'lek.

From almost before he could walk, Sinya was assigned to work within the Hutt's grand throne room. Running odd jobs, fetching a narglehorn for a musician, retrieving his master's snacks when he dropped them, and the like. All the while, the corpulent old Hutt would laugh at the young boy, making light of his name. On the rare occasions when Sinya showed any emotion at such teasing, he was beaten.

Slaves were given no education, and Sinya was rarely exposed to any outside knowledge. The only things he really knew came from the tales that smugglers and bounty hunters would share with each other within Keshua's throne room.

Sinya's parents were killed at the same time. Sent out to polish a statue outside the palace gates, they were both hit by an out-of-control speeder, kiling them both instantly. The accident made Sinya mad, but he could do nothing, and when he appeared angry, he was beaten. His sadness quickly evaporated under the threat of more beatings than he already received.

A Jedi Knight arrived on Nal Hutta one day when Sinya was around five. Sinya could only understand snippets of the Jedi's conversation with his master, but he heard something about "the Force." Thinking nothing in particular of it, the young human was given leave to take his daily rest period, and so left the room. His master received visitors all the time, he thought, and it was none of his concern what they were about.

The next day was a good deal more lively. Early in the morning, just as Sinya was rising, the palace was attacked. A rival Hutt clan had launched a raid on Keshua's palace. As Sinya rushed to his master's throne room, he found the Jedi from last night standing in the middle, hands wrapped around a strange weapon. Sinya had never seen a lightsaber before, and it entranced him. The bright blue blade of light swinging it's way through attackers mesmerized the young boy.

He was even more surprised when the Jedi told him that Sinya could come with him, be a Jedi just like him. Sinya jumped at the opprutinity, hoping that maybe the Jedi master's wouldn't beat him like Keshua did. The Hutt objected at first, before the Jedi pointed out that he had saved Keshua's life by helping to stop the raid. And so, when the Jedi left for the temple, he took Sinya with him.

Age 6-10
Being brought to the temple was quite a culture shock for Sinya. Indeed, after being brought to the temple on Endor, he was known to flinch whenever anyone moved suddenly near him, thinking that they would hit him.

It took close to a year for him to be able to train as a youngling. In addition to being taught basic lessons such as reading and arithmetic, he also had to be carefully watched as he healed. A lifetime of beatings and poor food had left him weak and frail, unable to stand up to the rigours of even basic training. While he had some opprutinity to socialise with the others his age at the temple, he rarely did so. To him the others were different. They all knew each other, they were all friends. He was the outsider.

By the time he had reached the age of seven, Sinya was considered ready to become a youngling. The beginning of his Jedi training was yet another shock for him. Their ways made little sense to Sinya. Why have power if not to use it? When he posed this question to one of the masters, he was told that restraint was the true test of power. This further confused Sinya, but he was smart enough not to ask again.

One question that he did ask however, concerned the Knight who had found him. After asking several masters, he learned that the Knight had been dispatched to attempt a diplomatic resolution to the growing Hutt clan wars, which were often raging, causing great loss of life all around. The Jedi had ignited his blade during the second day of his mission when he found himself in the middle of one such raid, intending to protect the lives of those innocents that inhabited the palace.

His training continued until the age of ten, during which time he learned in much the same way as the other younglings. He gained a basic shii-cho proficiency, and learned the very basic ways of the force. He was not an exceptional student in general, nor was he a poor performer, he was in most respects average. He was found, however, to posess a degree of talent with stealth. While he had yet to receive any such training, it was noted by some of his trainers that his footsteps were naturally quick and quiet, and that when he wished to remain unseen he had a habit of staying near the back of a group and blending in with others.

One note is that he was still teased constantly by the others, particularly the twi'lek younglings due to his name. When noticed by the masters they were quick to put a stop to the teasing, but it resumed nonetheless when he was alone with others.

Age 11-17
The age came when he was put forth to become a padawan learner. For several months the other younglings were steadily chosen, and by the time a year had passed, there were fewer than ten younglings of the proper age in the temple who had not been selected, Sinya included. After his increasing dismay was noticed, and after several meetings with the masters, he was selected by a knight named Drox Anjek, who he had never previously met. The two became friends very quickly however, and it wasn't only a few months after they were officially paired that their first mission was under way. They were to travel to Kuat, to mediate between two guilds of miners that were rapidly approaching conflict.

The mission, Sinya's first, did not go as planned. The dispute was already on the verge of outright violence by the time that they arrived. The two groups of miners were apparently vying for rights to the same single mine, which had been found to contain deposits of a rare ore.

Within an hour of arriving, it became apparent that neither Drox nor his padawan were having any effect on the hotheaded miners. Drox was not particularly experienced in mind tricks and calm, rational discussion had already come and gone. When a physical fight broke out, the pair of Jedi ignited their sabres, to little avail. While some of the miners stopped their attack, the more hardened ones took to attacking each other, brawling like thugs. Unfortunately, Droz was caught in the middle of the brawl, and in his determination not to hurt anyone, he was caught unaware. A large metal pole, intended for the chest of a miner, struck him in the back of the head, and he was trampled underfoot as he fell.

Sinya fled. Knowing that the miners would not help him, and knowing that they were far out into the wilderness, he felt that he had little option but to run. For over a week he was alone on an unfamiliar planet, with little in the way of supplies. He was forced to eat local wildlife, sleep under trees, and simply wait for the fourteen days before a jedi relief shuttle found him, having locked onto his homing beacon.

Taken back to the temple, Sinya was once again a padawan without a master. After several further weeks of waiting, he decided that if a master chose him then he would be glad, but if not, he would simply carry on without. Lacking many options, he all but secluded himself within the portions of the archives that he was able to access.

The next three years saw much the same. Most of the time Sinya would spend in the archives or, occasionally, training with other padawans. He delved into texts on the Jedi philosophy, styles, and methods. He learned a good deal about the galaxy, it's geography, it's people, and the like. In short, he gained the sort of knowledge that most children of his age in the galaxy had that he had been lacking, plus some of the more exotic things that those his age would not know, but were essential to a jedi, such as galactic politics.

When he was fourteen, after seeking the permission of a master, Sinya was permitted to construct his lightsaber. Constructing it in the style of his short-lived master's, the silver and black hilt was a standard, straight affair, with a bright blue crystal. He spent the better part of a month constructing the weapon, first constructing the metal components, and then spending almost two weeks meditating on the crystal itself.

Upon reaching the age of fifteen, Sinya had come to several conclusions. His study of Jedi history and methods had led him to believe that the Jedi way of thinking was flawed. The idea of having power and not using it, protecting those who could not do so themselves, struck him as a serious flaw. Why not use that power to your own advantage?

There was also the fact that Sinya was, though he denied it, angry. Angry at being a slave, angry at the death of his master, even though it had been a brief apprenticeship. Anger that nobody else had chosen him. Spending so much time among books and files and not much among sentients had made him somewhat reclusive, and left alone with his own thoughts, he knew, deep down, that the Jedi was not his place.

And so, over the following weeks, Sinya made preparations in secret to leave. He knew not where he would go, he just knew that if he stayed, his darkness would be revealed. He secreted supplies that he would need within his quarters, praying that he would not be found out.

And finally, when he felt that the time was right, he simply left. Signing a small shuttle out from the Temple garage under the fake authorisation of a master, Sinya fled in the night. Much to his surprise, he was not pursued, not as far as he was aware. Taking the shuttle to a nearby inhabited system, he landed it in a starport, gathered his equipment, and never looked back. Chartering passage on a passenger ship, he made his way to Nar Shadda, the smuggler's moon.

Stealing from the pockets of merchants and smugglers when he needed them, Sinya began seeking a purpose, a place that he could use his powers for his own gain. He found such employment in a most unlikely source: Keshua the Hutt.

The Hutt, who had moved his operations to the moon some years before, did not recognise the young man he had once tormented. Sinya used an alternate name, and after some persuasion, gained a position as someone who "took care of problems" for Keshua. While Sinya revealed that he was a force user, he refused to tell any details of his life or his status, and the Hutt seemed content to have such a force using "servant."

He proved to be effective in this role. The first time he killed, a rodian who had gambling debts, he was nervous, felt doubt. Though he could not deny that he thrilled at the power, the ability to take a life with relative ease. The second time, he had no doubts. While he did not enjoy killing, he did enjoy the power of life and death over a person.

After several months of solving Keshua's problems and gaining a considerable amount of credits in the process, Sinya came to the conclusion that he had had enough. Late one night, as the venerable Hutt was sleeping in his throne room, Sinya held his lightsaber close to the Hutt's forehead and simply ignited it. The blade lanced through the Hutt's brain, and he was dead.

Fleeing into the night, Sinya stole a ship and left Nar Shadda behind, savouring the death of the slug that had once called him slave, and thinking that perhaps Korribban should be his next stop. After all, he had remembered reading in the archives that Korribban had once held a Sith Academy. Perhaps that would be a good place for him to start...
