Hi,

I am rather new to text based RP's like this and I am at an impasse. I can't quite decide between 3 major races: Echani, Trandoshan and Chiss. Whichever one wins out I will prefer to join the Jedi Faction. However, logical arguments for other factions are also acceptable and welcome. Pretty well thought out back stories for each individual species. Was just looking for some good feedback on which cultural aspects are appealing for each species. I personally am leaning more towards an Echani but a Trandoshan Jedi is too fun to simply pass up entirely. Thoughts and arguments. Discuss...

First off, welcome to the SWRP! Glad to have another occupant in our asylu... I mean, great to have another member here!

The idea for a Chiss Jedi would be interesting, in at least my head, because of the tension and animosity that might be there between him and other Jedi and the rebels, considering the Chiss Ascendancy has been at war with the Alliance and Jedi for three years now. I know Trandoshans looks cool, but I don't know a thing about them and even less about the Echani, so I can't provide an opinion on them though.

I agree with Cutlass here about the Chiss. I know diddly-squat about Trandoshans, but an Echani Jedi would be interesting. Given that they are great fighters, I think they'd be killer with a lightsaber! :CHappy

Echani Martial Arts + Lightsaber = Awesome PVP role-plays. My math skills are great right?

Also, welcome to the club!

Though if you had the Trandoshan you'd be able to regenerate limbs. Also a plus for PVP. Though I don't think they'd fit the Jedi faction do to their natural agressive behavior and being bias towards Wookiees. Though the last part is just my personal view due to me having a Wookiee Jedi.^.^
Though it's still a toughie but I'd go with Chiss if you were looking for a conflict something unique to find for your character.

Keeping in mind that the regeneration isn't instant, it would take weeks, upon weeks to regrow an arm or a leg. So its not really a plus for PVP at all.

Agreed on this front. The dilemma of the story that has a Chiss, away from his home, working for/with the enemy of his people could be a fantastic storyline to pursue. It'd take a bit of reading, and talking to, of course, but it'd be a great backstory if you gave it the time it deserved.

Lord Pane, I'm with the majority. I'd like to see your Chiss!

Not really, hon. For said species, it's not an instant growth.
Generally speaking on our board, character are not gods. They are not immortal nor invincible. If a character loses his hand it will not grow back. As for PvP, characters cannot dodge every attack, it wouldn't be a fair game.

I think the Chiss Jedi would be a fun and extremely hard one to pursue. I know most of the back-story and lore of the events of Star Wars fairly well. The only thing I am slightly unfamiliar with is the new time skip (approx. 10 years). I know the foreseeable thought is to eliminate the overwhelming Mandolorian issue posed to the massive infighting of that species. So, if someone would also be able to provide a brief understanding of the events of the skip it would be immensely appreciative. At least on the side of the Chiss changes. I plan to hold off on the character till after the skip for integrity of the story sake. I should have ample time to flush out a as good as possible Chiss Jedi. Also, since I am fairly new to text based RPs a brief overview of character creation would be helpful. Thanks to all posting.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the details of the timeskip are still being discussed in the Think Tank, and aren't ready to be released as yet.

Best we can give you are the following links:

^ That, and try to remember to be modest with stats and powers to start with. All characters start out at the lowest rank of the faction that they are joining. As such, your characters powers, skills, and abilities should grow as the character advances (similar to computer RPGs). Try to think of balances; for everything that you character is good or great at, create a situation or skill that they are bad or horrible at. And last but not least, when you post the character, try not to take criticisms personally. Many are just trying to help you round out your character, and aren't trying to attack you personally. :CHappy

I agree with the general consensus that a Chiss Jedi provides the most interesting roleplaying options given the history of the timeline. Racial strife makes for some really excellent dialogue. And I'm a sucker for a good story.

Trandoshans are your typical foreign-alien kind of characters and always struck me as aloof or hard to empathize with, so I'm no fan of them fluff-wise. The tail, however, presents an interesting combat mechanism that can be applied very effectively in the hands of a clever writer. This is worth considering if you are looking for a warrior jedi as opposed to an ambassadorial consular.

The Echani is sort of a balance between the two; Echani martial arts provide interesting combat options, but their humanoid features and relatively earth-like culture means that they are a little easier to roleplay effectively. However, I feel like this is probably the weakest option as it doesn't appear to afford you any social tension on the grounds of race, and at that point you'll be limited to overcoming only those trials and tribulations that you yourself create. While that is the way a lot of roleplayers end up crafting their profiles, it can lead to some very weak stories if you're not careful; racial strife, much as it is in today's society, makes for some killer conflicts.

Overall I lean towards the Chiss jedi myself, but you needn't feel compelled based on my personal opinion. In any case, those are the pros and cons to the various races you mentioned as far as I see them. Hope this helps.

Edit:

I had a character who was allowed to start as a Sith Master, actually, and most of the Darths and Council members similarly started in those positions from what I recall, so that's not a hard and fast rule. It's generally advised to start lower for roleplaying purposes, however, as it provides a fuller and more meaningful experience, but because the ranks have to be filled, certain characters are able to start with a bit of an edge. I agree that regardless of what rank you first occupy, your powers and statistics should be relatively modest relative to the rank; no demi-gods allowed and all that.

You will be happy to know then that I have decided on the Chiss Jedi (Rowan Sull). Feel free to also comment on the Character Sheet as well. Since you are so enthralled by the story check out his biography and history and tell me what you think. All input both constructive and slightly deconstructive are appreciated. Trial by error is the best solution.
