Kril'Dor, Mid Rim
Utilizing resources is an essential aspect to any economy. Such is the case with Tibanna gas, quite useful for ships for example powering hyperdrives and onboard weaponry. On the gas titan of a world called Kril’Dor there was plenty of it. An orbital mining station called Storm’s End, a gang of smugglers processed the substance before taking it to the Hutt Cartel.

They believed their base was secured to continue as business as usual even with the ongoing war. As in such today the gang were expecting three cartel owned vessels to arrive and soon the trio appeared in close formation. Inside however, weren’t Hutt personal but Republic marines a full company, numbering seventy two in fact. Split into three platoons they hid inside the hull of each freighter. Leading the third platoon on the right-hand side is Lieutenant Talos Barrenfist.

Standing in front of the ramp Talos looked back at the anxious expressions found on many of his troops armed to the teeth. With firm confidence he addressed.

“Alright Vetur Platoon you know drill, let’s review our objectives.” Activating his handheld holoprojectoer, displaying Storm Ends’ layout he continued.

“Soon we’ve land at the docking bay with the rest of the company to assault this station. First we are to secure bay against any opposition found there. Afterward, our unit will press on to capture the reactor core in the lower levels while Nexu platoon goes after the quarters and Thunder will advance upon the command center. The capture of these key locations are essential to the destruction of the gang and their little operation. Any questions?”

Quickly a freckle faced human, who looked like he just got out of high school raised his hand.

“Uh lieutenant are there any civilians working inside the facility?”

Talos shook his head no in respond.

“No private. Only smugglers and their droids that do all the work. So don’t hesitate, to elminate these fakkers am I understood?”

“Yes sir.”

Subsequently, Talos turned his glaze toward the other marines to see if they have their own questions.

Bretharr once again found himself fighting in Talos's battalion. It felt like home to him now, fighting all these battles, conducting many operations with him. Thinking to himself, he was glad that at least he was posted to such an exemplary officer. He had much to learn for sure Bretharr, and he tried to keep a mental note of things Talos did to ensure a happy company. Of course, he wanted his own command still, to command his own troops, but still better than nothing. He discarded these thoughts quickly, as he turned his attention to the operation briefing. This was to be a large scale operation it seemed, to capture this orbital mining station. When a soldier asked whether there were any civilians on board, it always brought him back to that dreaded mission. However, he was also kind of glad to have someone else ask whether there were civilians there. Stopped him from asking. He wracked his brains for a question, but after thinking none, he said
"No sir!" Before preparing for battle

With no remaining questions, Talos focused on rechecking his rifle again. It wasn’t too long before all three ships landed together. Some of the smugglers inside the docking bay moved toward the vessels, preparing to move the tibanna canisters they had stored on the far side to the right angle. They were a few feet from the ramps finally came down. Instead of being greeted by their fellow compatriots the criminals were cut down by volley of blasters from each opened ship.

With a collective battle cry the Republic marines storm out from the transports into the bay, killing and wounding more cartel members as they advanced. However, the intial shock wore off as a few dozens of smugglers on the far end took cover by crates and pulled out their weapons, blasting at the attackers. A marine in front of Talos dropped dead struck four times in chest. Even so the lieutenant pressed forward with his platoon while their commander, Major Ron Ironwell shouted in the center.

“Keeping pushing, don’t stop!”

Bretharr was one of the ones at the front, so he was someone in grave danger. He was also the one who could reach cover the quickest. So, as the ramp came down, and he fired along with the rest of the marines at the smugglers which had gathered, he raced out, firing as he ran for his life. Unfortunately for him, a smuggler had lined him up, and fired 2 shots. One hit his shoulder, the other his leg. He went down in agony, with a small groan of pain. He now hoped someone could rescue him.

A medic rushed over and dragged Bretharr over behind a set of metal containers. “Hold on I’ll get you patch up.” The yellow Twi’lek said in reassurance before getting to work while blaster shots continued to fly. Ten Republic soldiers fell lifeless in the deadly exchange and six more were wounded. Talos fired his rifle, during the charge, gunning down three smugglers nearest to him during the charge.

Nine other hostiles were slain by the marine company. The defenders were forced back, abandoning the docking bay to their enemies. With the fight briefly halted, Major Steewell began recognizing the company, preparing their next move. Talos took the time check on his men, two of the deaths and one wounded(Bretharr) from his platoon. He checked on the former officer who was being treating by the tail headed medic.

“Can you still fight?” Barrenfist asked Bargall, inspecting the latter’s wounds.

As Bretharr was being treated by the medic, he realised soon that the initial and sharp pain from receiving 2 blaster bolts disappeared soon, and though his movements were slightly... Rusty, he could easily fight on. He stood up, slightly wincing from the pain of moving, though shrug it off and said
“Yes sir, I can continue the fight!” Before thanking the medic, and moving forwards with his men, at a relatively quick jog

Pleased, Talos nodded at Bretharr. Their platoon subsequently advanced with the rest of the marine company that wasn’t killed or wounded. Minutes later they spilt into three groups. As planned one unit lead by Major Steelwell to the command bridge, another to the smugglers’ quarters, and finally Talos’ team was assigned to the reactor core.

As they race down the stairs of a rust-covered hallway Talos called out to his troops. “Stay sharp boys and girls.” Coming down the steps the platoon turned the next corridor. They spotted the entrance to the reactor wide opened twelve meters and the smugglers numbering around more than a dozen inside. As soon as both sides saw one another they opened fire.

“Spread out! Don’t give these fakkers easy targets.” Barrenfist, commanded before firing two shots at the nearest smuggler, and killing him instantly.

Bretharr would jog down the hallway, taking it easy on his legs. He didn't want to pull anything, or damage his legs even further. When they turned the next corridor, and they spotted the entrance as well as the smugglers, the fire fight commenced. He found cover with a few boxes in the middle of the hallway, and fired an entire clip into the entrance. He heard the painful screams of 3 smugglers, 2 of which fell silent. However, 1 continued to go on. He reloaded, satisfied with his shooting, and looked at the rest of the platoon, firing at will. A rather pretty sight, if you were a Republic soldier.

The marine platoon spread out as they advanced exchanging shots with the desperate defenders. Talos downed another hostile, shooting two bolts at the chest. Three more smuggelers were killed moments by the rest of the platoon before the remaining profiteers raised their hands behind cover, showing they’re surrendering. Credits are no good in death. Lieutenant Barrenfist silently judged, watching his unit take the new prisoners into custody and take over the room.

Swifty he messaged Major Steelwell, letting the commanding officer know of their success. In turn Steelwell informed him that the other positions have been secured as well. With a fierce grin, Talos called out to his platoon. “Well done everyone, mission accomplished. We’re heading home.”

The End
