INTENT
I like Starfighters, and I like writing Starfighter pilots. Sometimes it sucks not being able to take your starfighter with you because it cannot hyperspace. With the timeframe we're in it makes sense that a lot of starfighters don't have hyperdrives installed in them. Rings like this have been seen in canon before, but even in the old EU there were never a lot of details in them. While more than likely generic, it's different enough that I figured it would warrant at least putting this in for a tech profile rather than just assuming it would be generic from the get go.

DESCRIPTION
Hyperspace transport rings have long been a big money maker for Syliure, giving hyperdrive capability to ships that don't a have system built in. With the Mark 11, the corporation is attempting to market a "universal" booster ring, capable of docking with any number of starfighter and other smaller sized vessels. The key to this is in recent headway made in allowing the droid brain of the ring to interface with the vast different numbers of systems running on different ships. Translating different languages and control schemes, the droid brain will allow any starfighter using a known language to interface with it. Running through the middle of the ring is actual docking area. The dock is separated in four different planes, which can reconfigure to a general shape allowing a ship to dock. For ship's with more complex structures there are also four manipulator arms which can be used to hold the ship in place as extra insurance.

Though capable of docking with a wide variety of ships, the 11 doesn't have long legs. The hyperdrive is far from the fastest, and the navicomputer on board can store only a small number of hyperspace jump vectors in its navicomputer. This can be increased if the ship docking has its own navicomputer, and especially if it has an astromech droid capable of taking on some of the more complex tasks of operating the 11. It comes equipped with a life support system that it actually can't use, but can be tied into that of a docked ship in the event that it doesn't have the life support capacity necessary for the length of the voyage. Docking with the ring will not grant a ship a speed boost in normal space in any way, shape, or form. The engines aren't especially fast, and the droid brain isn't capable of moving it around well enough for combat operations. In terms of fighting, the 11 is just dead mass and a pilot would most likely wish to undock before getting into a fight.

Widely sold, the 11 can be found just about anywhere, even as a rental. For those that own an 11 or organizations that operate it, it can be coded to a specific ship so as to avoid having the 11 get stolen by anyone who happens to have a ship that can communicate with it. Under such circumstances a ship wishing to communicate with the ring must send it a specific code before it will "unlock" and initiate docking procedures.

I like the idea, however we only really see these rings way down the line, which might be the only issue. That and the fact that having one of these attached to the really fast stock fighters that gained speed over a hyperdrive would be considerably more powerful.

Otherwise like i said, really like this idea and as per usual your stuff is super nicely laid out.

Thanks! Yeah they only show up in TCW era, but it's pretty brief and towards the beginning (and if I'm not mistaken there was also an appearance in ROTS) which would indicate that by that timeframe the tech was generally being phased out. As for the really fast stock fighters- that's going to happen anyway, you can pretty easily handwave a fighter with no hyperdrive getting somewhere, somehow. The ring would be terrible for anything more than a handful of fighters going from point-A to point-B. I'd actually put it in a World War 2 context, where this would be the fuel tank that a fighter has to carry to escort the bombers somewhere. Sure it gives it some impressive legs, but you have to detach it to get your max performance, and once it's gone, it's gone. You let this thing get shot up your as good as captured or dead unless you're really luck and can find another way out.

why does it need life support and 0.7 is way to fast

The life support is explained in the description as being to tie into the life support system of craft that might not carry a life support system that can sustain it for however long it's traveling. And it's not 0.7, it's 7.0 which obviously isn't terribly slow compared to some out there, but it also isn't exactly blisteringly fast, especially compared to what you can get out of the generic light freighters posted. Which sort of ties back into the need for the life support system, if you want to get somewhere far away with this thing, you're in for a loooooooong trip just sitting in a cockpit.
