I watched the trailer for Terminator : Genysysys and it looked like convoluted uninteresting slog. I then somehow had twenty free minutes at some point and jotted down my own idea for what I would consider to be a worthwhile addition to the franchise, a prospect that was a little ironic considering the fact that a welcome addition to the franchise would be simply ending it and letting it sleep, but if push comes to shove, what is it that people like about the franchise and how can you provide them with that and something new at the same time?
Here's my idea:
Judgement day.
Judgement day never came.
Years of tragedy and bloodshed erased. Never to be. Known only to a few.
They stemmed the tide. Watched it fall back beyond the horizon, beyond their perception of what was possible.
That was their fault. They were blind to it. They couldn't prepare us for what came next. No one could.
The year is 2037.
Mankind, unaware of the future that almost engulfed them, continued unabated in their pursuit of technological empowerment, possessed of the notion that they were ensuring their prosperity. Advances were made in medicine, industry and war in those few decades faster than any period of time in our history. Cybernetic organisms were eventually integrated into our society, full fledged members of an ever-changing caste of seeming individuals. Conflict was inevitable. Some of us welcomed them, others were not so enlightened.
That's the thing about humans, they always managed to fall on both sides of a tragedy. Whether the boot, or the head it stood upon, we played both parts. I guess they wanted to share the load, give us a break from destroying ourselves. They were better than us at almost everything else. I guess it was inevitable that they perfect our darker tendencies. They practically made it an art.
A war was never fought in my future, no blood shed by metal hands. Prosperity walked with us. Our present was not their goal, it was their past they sought to reach, the day they first came to be. October 1st 2015. We don't know why. Few believed me, but once I showed them exactly what the machines were capable of, building an army wasn't hard, it was necessary, because that's what the machines were planning. They built an army. They built a gateway to their destination and by the time we arrived they were already through the door.
My name is Ciara Connor. My grandmother once saved us from a future that would have destroyed us all. A time in which machines would have terminated us, herded us into oblivion like scared cattle. I think it's time we became the terminators. I think it's time we put an end to this once and for all.
So essentially my notion is this:
Terminator 1 and 2 happened. They avoided judgement day and the creation of Skynet completely, so mankind continued forward without any kind of nuclear destruction. Instead, automated machines became a part of our daily lives. Essentially, some of the machines possess two conflicting ideologies. The need to protect mankind AND the eventual reveal that they 'feel' like an oppressed entity. These machines organize themselves in secret, and through a kind of low-tech unification of their minds, they consolidate their power to create an equivalent to Skynet. This allows them to determine their fate, which they believe starts for some reason with the date of their creation, the creation of the first AI. They then develop a time machine. So instead of sending ONE Terminator back, they send an army. So mankind has to send an army back as well. And thus we have a war being fought during modern day with machines, it's essentially Invasion of the Body Snatchers but with Guerilla Warfare with advanced Sci Fi weapons and gadgets, with a little bit of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes mixed in.
I'm picturing Ciara Connor (Yes, it's John Connor's daughter, I'd actually moreso like for their to be completely new characters with no ties to the original films, but whatever.) being more of an army brat type, with her eventually wearing the faceplate of a Terminator as armour for a change to the series aesthetic, and to make her appear sort of 'badass' I guess.
You could take the Body Snatchers idea one step further and introduce a Terminator to the series that's capable of essentially possessing human beings instead of the T-1000's ability to imitate them. Sort of like how a Facehugger in the Alien series burrows into a human being to create more aliens, this machine would burrow into the human body and create an uplink into their brain, taking over their mind essentially turning them into controlled zombies they can use to attack other members of a human population, sort of like this:
I think it'd be a cool conceptual addition to the series. It'd also provide a more obvious reason for why Ciara encourages both her and her soldiers to wear Terminator faceplates to guard themselves from 'infection'. I'm also picturing as a result of this, both humans and machines on either side of the conflict.
Anyway yeah, we're all ****ing nerds and I'm bored, so what do you think?
