Ask The Beast of Yavin IV: Chapter 2

[Kyosuke Yamato]

"Well that's good... I think?" Kyosuke shrugged at Edaara as he spoke after the communication faded. He wasn't really sure what the other team's situation was, but it seemed like Padawan Lightwood was a bit tense and nervous. At least the Youngling was alright afterall.

"Either way..." The gradually recovering Knight stopped in the middle of the small clearing against the mire pools. His azure gaze shifted from one tree to another as he glanced around at the materials they had to use in the meantime. He then drew his split-saber and ignited both dark blue blades.

"I'm thinking we should --" He glanced back at Edaara, realizing he'd have to do the physical work. "-- Err... I'll start cutting down some of these tree limbs. Then I'll trim the thick end to sharpen them into giant stakes. Hopefully we can hide some of them in the treetops, so we can Pull them later to try pinning some of the beast's limbs with them."

Knight Yamato then whipped around and threw his sabers, directing them through the ebb and flow while they whirled through the air and severed a large limb from one of the massive Massassi trees. A moment later the split-saber would arc back around, and come to a sudden stop in the Shadow's grasp. "Maybe we can even get lucky and skewer it with one."

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara looked back up at Kyo as he cut down a tree. The sudden movement of her head made her dizzy and she fell over backwards, laying in the mud once more. It was possible she had cracked or bruised a couple ribs, she had probably broken or sprained her ankle, and the poison from the creature's fangs was spreading rapidly through her blood system from her leg injury. "Whatever... you think best," she breathed softly, not even sure the knight would hear her. She thought this might have been the worst she had been injured, but she didn't have much perspective since usually it was easier to fight a creature the same size as her. She forced her eyes to stay open, fearing that if she closed them she would lose consciousness.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

"What?" Knight Yamato tilted his head ever so slightly in the direction of the emerald Knight, since he hadn't really heard her. His right hand was outstretched from another saber throw, while his midnight blue blades rhythmically hummed through the air to sever another thick branch from one of the other large purple-barked trees. A second later the heavy limb would crash to the soft ground with a mucky splat.

Gremlin looked back toward Edaara, then let out a worried whine before he began to cautiously scamper over to her. Kyosuke elegantly plucked his split-saber out of it's vertical spin as it went to pass him, then let his wrist momentarily rotate with its momentum before he let the purring weapon rest at his side. His bright blues shimmered in the nightsky as he shifted them over to the prone Jedi, only to realize she was much worse than he'd thought before. A jagged knife of concern stabbed his chest as he disengaged his sabers and took a step toward her. "...Edaara?"

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara heard Kyo say her name but it sounded like it was miles away. She stared up at the sky, and somehow felt as if she was falling. She blinked and slowly, painfully turned her head, looking down at her leg. Through her blurry gaze, the skin that was visible on her leg due to the howler's jaws tearing her pants and boots, was purple. She blinked rapidly, feeling as if the world was moving slower than usual. She could hear her heartbeat pounding in her ears; deafening. Was it supposed to be going that slow? Her breathing sped up. "Oh dear..." she slurred, glancing at Kyo who was turned to her. He seemed to duplicate and shift out of focus and Edaara blinked again, some rational part of her not allowing her to close her eyes.

[Kyosuke Yamato]

"Kriff..." Kyo cursed under his breath as he hurriedly approached the fallen Knight. "Should've just given you this earlier..." He then snapped his finger to signal Gremlin for the last medical stim. The little scout droid hooted affirmatively and launched the vial into the air, which was then snatched out of midair by Kyosuke as he stepped between Edaara and Gremlin.

Then the young man dropped to a knee, spotting the discoloration in her emerald skin from his new position. "This doesn't look good. We're going to need you for this fight." If she didn't stop him he would then proceed to jab the stim into the femoral artery of the injured leg about as gently as he could while still getting it to the mark.

"This won't bring you back all the way, but hopefully it'll get you mobile enough for battle."
The compassionate Knight then slowly turned his azure gaze to hers.

"I'll get you to the bacta tank on my ship once this all over. Just -- hang in there..."
Hopefully she would last that long...

[Edaara Tonor]

Edaara felt something jab into her leg and she let out a cry of pain as the world blacked out and then slowly cleared again. She blinked rapid-fire, trying to clear her head and her vision. A relieving warmth spread through her leg and glancing down at it, she saw Kyo kneeling over her, medical stim in hand. Her leg was slowly returning to its natural emerald green color. Her head cleared a little and Edaara forced herself to sit up, and then she pushed herself to her feet. Now, the only issues were her sore muscles, her broken rib, and her sprained ankle. She placed a hand on the tree to steady herself, before turning her gaze to Kyo. "Thank you..." she replied. If not for the knight beside her, she may not have survived this mission, which only proved the point that she needed to build up strength and stamina.

"Yeah.. uh.." Kyosuke looked Edaara over as she steadied herself with the tree. It seemed like the medical stim might not be enough for her to make it through the battle with the beast. Not that he was much better. The unexpected encounter with the alpha howler and its pack had most likely left them both too weakened to hold their ground against the mysterious quarry.

"Maybe we should fall back to the temple until we can meet back up with the others...?" The raven-haired Knight let out a faint grunt as he stood, still feeling some of the leftover damage in his sternum that hadn't completely healed. Then he held out his arm toward Gremlin so the small scout could hop up and perch on Kyo's upper back.

"At least half the mission was a success. Davï is safe, and it might take the other team longer if they drop him off at the temple." He then glanced over his shoulder upriver to the Northwest, where he gathered the howlers had lost their fight to the beast and fled.

"Based on the amount of time it took for the howlers, and us, to get here since the first sign of commotion we heard -" Kyo paused as he began to walk back the way they came, waiting for Edaara unless she had a convincing counter argument to his suggested strategy. "-that thing is going to get here before any reinforcements, and we're not as in good enough condition to hold it off like I thought.."

Edaara pushed off the tree. "What if we met the others in the middle? We could take Davi from them and take him back to the temple, and then we can come back with reinforcements to help the other two," she suggested as Kyo started to walk away. She didn't know exactly how far away Knight Erval and his padawan were, but she figured they were heading this way.
