Kashyyyk. A wide vista of green opened before Kaleko, piercing through the surrounding tendrils of clouds. He stood, pensive, gazing out before the unbroken blanket of vegetation before him, eyes reflecting the flickering red lights of the alarms. A flaming fighter passed before the octagonal window in the command bridge, trailing smoke and falling like a fiery comet. Kaleko turned and surveyed the crumbling room. A thin layer of smoke wafted about, perpetuated by several burning consoles and burnt out electronics. Fragments of durasteel littered the floor, and several bodies lay unmoving. The few remaining crew milled about in disarray. Alarms were permeating the scene, filling all with a strobe light of red.

The half-kilometer long freighter lumbered downwards, leaving a widening trail of smoke and debris. An echoing explosion tore through its rear hull, shredding the rear cargo bays and loosing debris into the air. The freighter fell in a gravity defying descent, the reaming functional thrusters doing their best to keep the fall gentle. The ship was wreathed in flames and smoke, and through these passed a myriad of flashes. The last of the freighter's fighter compliment fought on to the bitter end, even as their charge descended into the lower atmosphere of Kashyyk. Several pirate frigates circled the crippled ship like the rock vultures of Utapau, firing occasionally at the lumbering beast they had trapped. A single battle-cruiser, flagship of the pirate group, trailed about a kilometer behind and above the freighter, simple watching menacingly over the battle, its small hangar bay servicing the occasional returning fighter.

A new threat revealed itself to the beleaguered freighter as a new ship appeared in the gloom before the viewing ports. Moving close, the new, roughly rectangular ship began to extend a tube, like the tendril of a sarlacc. Another explosion, and the ship's captain was thrown to the already strewn ground upon his head with a sickening crunch, even as an ominous heat began to radiate from the wall. The effects of the mining laser on the durasteel was slow, but even in a few seconds the steel glowed a dim red.

Kaleko moved away from the window, striding over to a nearby door. A quick pneumatic hiss gained the mercenary entry to the ship's sizable passenger chamber. Utilizing an intercom port next to the door, he delivered his message: "The pirates are boarding! Anyone who wants to live, come with me into the command deck." Glancing quickly over the mostly cowering crowd, Kaleko left the room. Turning to Senior Officer Kagt, the only crewmember of the Dardan with some semblance of control still on the bridge, he began the defense. "Have the passengers form a barricade in the center of the room. Arm those who know how to fight. We must hold the ship." His hopes were reinforced when a sound could be heard emanating from the late captain's headpiece. "Reinforcements will arrive in twelve minutes, I repeat, reinforcements will arrive in twelve minutes."

The mercenary readied his guns, eyes sweeping the now emerging crowd, hoping that some competent fighters were among them.
