For several days, Haar was nowhere to be seen. He kept to himself during that time, never even coming out of hiding for food or drink. It was as if he simply abandoned the temple.

At first, Siri was worried about her Master. At the same time, she was concerned that she had done something wrong to disappoint her Master or to offend him. This mind set only lasted a day or so. Siri was beginning to enjoy Ossus. She had become friends with some of the other Padawans her age and even had small talk with some of the other Jedi Masters. Her meditations in the woods became a daily event. Sometimes she would spend three to four hours in deep meditation.

She also sat in on some of the other Padawan's training sessions so that she could see what their training was like, and what her's might be like upon starting. Days past by and, eventually, even her longing for the cities of Coruscant faded. Her thoughts would sometimes fall on her missing Master, but she decided that she had to be patient; eventually he would reveal himself. She just had to wait until he was ready.

In the meantime, however, she had decided to start on a process that all young Padawans had to complete by the end of their training. She had begun gathering parts for her own lightsaber. She had already managed to get schematics for the type she wanted to build from the Jedi library in the Enclave, as well as a focusing lens, and two emitter matrix. She still needed some crucial parts, though, including several focusing crystals, which she didn't think were present on Ossus. After completing what she could, she went back to her daily routines, awaiting her master.

As Siri went about her daily business without her master by her side, Haar returned to the temple from Ossus' jungles. Apart from the obvious smell of being within the forestry for so long, he appeared untouched by anything hostile. After washing himself to remove the stench, he went about in search for Siri.

When he found her, Haar gestured for her to follow him and returned to the Ossus jungles.

Siri followed as told, happy that her master had returned and surprised to see that they were going into the jungles outside of the Temple, where she had been meditating the past couple of days.

"What have you learned while I was away?" Haar asked once they were in the jungle. He kept his own feelings separate from Siri, wanting a response that was truthful, rather than something to please his own mind.

Siri searched her feelings. She wanted to be honest with Master Haar, and gain his trust. "Well, I've learned a few things. For one, I've learned to take things easy and not always go into something expecting to get what I desire right then and there. I've also learned not to be so anxious in new environments. If I just let the Force guide me, it'll give me peace wherever I am or whatever I'm doing." she replied truthfully.

Haar nodded, and moved on. "What led you to come into the jungle to meditate? It's not exactly the safest, most peaceful place to be in to reflect."

"Well, I figured a Jedi isn't suppose to have fear, so I came into the jungle to face my fears. Turns out this place isn't as bad as I thought it would be." Siri explained. "The Force is vibrant in this place."

"Danger and fear are not the same thing, Siri," Haar replied, "do I have to know fear to know when there is danger?"

"No, Master Haar. They are not the same thing and you don't have to know fear to know danger." she replied, confused at where he was heading with this.

Haar did not fail to take note of the tone in which his student answered. It was understandable if she was unsure what he had in mind for her. He then began explaining what he wanted Siri to do.

"I want you to befriend a gokob and bring it here. They can be jittery around strangers, and spray you with a foul odor when threatened. You have all the time needed to do so. I'll be waiting here until you complete the task."

Siri smiled, happy to have been given her first task by her Master, and bowed, Yes Master Haar." she replied before scampering off into the woods.

Once deeper in the woods, she pulled out a datapad and pulled up a holofile on gokobs. As she read, she was completely surprised by their descriptions. They were hairless rodents that lived in the canopies in the forest on Ossus. According to the file, they were also friendly. This relieved her. She then tapped into the Holonet and learned, through various reports, that gokobs often took food from the kitchen at the Jedi Enclave. She slipped the datapad back into her backpack and made her way back to the Temple.

Instead of going inside, though, she made her way to the side of the Temple and sat herself under the kitchen viewport. One of the cooks must've left the window open, so the smell of food was strong in the area. She then reached out with the Force and felt into the woods directly in front of her. There, she felt dozens of tiny lifeforms leaping through the tops of the trees.

After a few hours of waiting, one of the tiny creatures crawled out of the woods and scaled the walls of the temple to reach the window. Siri attempted to approach the creature and nab it, but that only served to scare the rodent, causing it to spray a foul smelling mist at Siri. Siri gagged several times at the smell and nearly vomited, but managed to retain her composure.

Okay, so obviously that didn't work. I wish the datapad would've mentioned that particular function, she thought. Perhaps I should try something else.

Siri closed her eyes and reached out with the Force, touching the creature's mind. She felt it's intense fear, having been scared more badly than she had originally thought. She attempted to transmit soothing thoughts to the creature through the Force. While there was little progress at first, Siri soon was able to freely feel the creatures feelings and made them one with her own through the Force. The gokob let out a purr-like noise and Siri mentally told it to leap onto her shoulder.

She felt the gokob respond through the Force and do as it was told. Siri smiled at her accomplishment, then turned around and headed back to her master.

Upon returning, she pointed to the hairless rodent on her shoulder. "Here it is, Master. A gokob, just like you asked."

Haar looked at it for a moment, then turned back to Siri. The amount of time that it took for Siri to obtain one to the rodents indicated that she used the Force's power.

"Would you influence an individual the same way you influenced the gokob to see you as a friend?"

Siri carefully considered her answer, "It would depend on the situation." she began. "My Masters on Coruscant mentioned the Jedi Mind Trick, a Force power that allows a Jedi to influence an individual's mind to grant them a peaceful outcome. So I suppose, if the situation called for it, then yes I would." she replied.

"Mind tricks do not solve all of your problems, Siri. I want you to try again, but this time, no trickery," Haar answered. The mind trick was the easy way to tame a gokob, but he wanted her to go for the hard way.

Siri nodded, disappointed in herself, "Yes Master..." she replied solemnly. She returned to the area where she had encountered her first gokob, while the other one remained on her shoulder. She waited hours it seemed. Finally, as the sun set beyond the horizon, three gokobs came out from hiding and began to attempt to get into the kitchen, whose window was now shut.

Siri watched them carefully. They were hungry, she could tell, not only by her Force sensing, but just by they way they acted. She then came up with an idea. Slowly, in an attempt not to startle them, Siri took some of the snack food she at times kept with her and broke it into small pieces. The small rodents immediately could smell the food and began to slowly inch closer to Siri, unsure of whether she was a friend or foe.

They then took notice of the gokob already on her shoulder and began to feel more comfortable. They closed in and took the small pieces of food Siri offered them, eating them almost immediately. She then understood why they were called "friendly"; as they finished their food, they leaped on her and squeaked loudly. Through the feelings they were giving off through the Force, Siri could tell they were delighted to have food and were grateful to her.

She then tried to pick one of them up. This caused alarm, and caused the group to scamper backwards. Fear radiated from them, and she quickly transmitted warm feelings to them through the Force. This was not an attempt to influence them, as she had the one on her shoulder, but to let them know she meant no harm. It worked and they again approached her. This time they let her pick them up, and in a matter of hours, she was back in the presence of her Master; this time with four gokobs with her. The three she had just met, and the one from earlier, who was still planted to her shoulder.

The time it took to befriend the gokobs took longer than before, but it was not long enough for what Haar wanted. He was pleased that Siri could be friendly to the non-sentient creatures, but what she was doing was not what he had in mind.

"You are doing well, but I want you to try again. This time, do not use any powers at all. Leave the gokobs here: I'll watch over them."

If all went well, it would take at least a day in order to prevent the gokobs from spraying her with the odor, and maybe another to allow the creatures to not see her as a threat. It may take a third for the gokobs to see Siri in a good light, but it was all dependent on how she behaved.

Siri nodded, but wasn't dismayed this time around. She felt that her Master was at least pleased with her accomplishments thus far, so she again left his presence, but this time, she also left the gokobs with him. The gokob that she had befriended first was hesitant to leave her side, but stayed regardless. Siri wondered why it had acted that way, but shrugged it off after a moment.

By the time she returned to her spot, it was well into the night. This time she only waited an hour at the window, because she quickly realized that the gokobs didn't want to come out of the woods anymore. It was too late for them. She was also feeling tired so she slowly made her way into the woods, climbed to the top of the nearest tree and got cozy on a branch. Sleep came quickly and upon awakening to the bright Ossus sun, she noticed that two gokobs were resting on top of her. This startled her, as she wasn't expecting to see them, causing her to shriek.

Bad idea, she thought, though it was too late.

Her shriek had awoken and terrified the tiny rodents, causing them to spray her with the disgusting smelling mist. Siri nearly fell out of the tree, something that would've killed her for sure at the height she was at. The gokobs scampered down the trunk of the tree, trying to hide themselves from her. She sighed and rubbed her temples, "This is going to be a loonnng day..." she moaned to herself. Slowly and drowsily, she climbed down the immense tree after the rodents.

It took her hours to find the little creatures, because she wasn't allowed to use the Force at all during this test, but everytime she came withing three feet of them, they sprayed her. By high noon, she stunk worse than a Felucian rancor. Not only that, but she was becoming hungry.

I could go back to the Temple and eat, then return to my hunt, but the chances of me finding the gokobs after doing that would be slim, she thought to herself.

Evening came and she had finally cornered the two gokob in some heavy brush. She didn't want to scare them more or cause them any more distrust of her.

She didn't have time to think of a plan. A loud bellow tore through the trees, startling Siri and frightening the gokobs to the point of immobilization. Siri prepared to use a massive Force push, but then remembered her Master told her not to use her powers. Instead she reached for her training lightsaber and with a snap hiss, the pink blade came into existance. That's when the sound became louder and from the trees, a giant Ysanna riding beast burst out, bellowing at the top of it's lungs.

The creature looked ferocious. It soon set it's sights on the two gokobs. Although they tried to scamper away, it was futile. The beast closed in on them within two bounds. The low hum of Siri's blade flying through the air caused the beast to become distracted. She slammed her saber into the creature's right arm, causing it to howl in pain as the low powered blade burned the creature's arm, causing a whelp to show up. Seeing their chance, the gokobs scrambled into the brush and escaped.

The beast wasn't so kind. It was furious with Siri for burning it and charged at her. She banked left and dodged it's onslaught, only to have it turn back around on her and launch itself at her again. Siri slashed at it, catching it on the thigh, causing it to howl in pain once more. She tried to run, but the creature recovered and chased her into a tree. As she stood, back up against the tree, she began to prepare to use the Force.

Sorry Master, I have to do this...I hope you understand, she thought.

Before she had the chance, the creature swiped at her, knocking her lightsaber out of her hand and smashing it into the ground. It reared back for the killing blow and Siri let out a terrified scream. She opened her eyes seconds later when nothing happened and the creature let out a confused shriek. The two gokob had come back and sprayed the creature in it's eyes, causing temporary blindness.

The gokobs didn't wait for a result, however. They quickly scampered back up the tree. Siri, using the creature's moment of weakness, snatched her training saber off the ground and climbed the tree after them.

Night had fallen by then, and for hours Siri could see the riding beast circling the tree waiting for her to descend, only to finally give up after the moon had risen. She examined her saber...smashed. It was useless now. She slipped it back into her pocket, rested her head on the trunk of the tree and went to sleep.

On day two, she awoke to the same phenomenon. The two gokobs were asleep on the branch she was sleeping on. She eased herself into a sitting position silently, so as not to disturb them. Her stomach grumbled. She hadn't eaten for one day, something she wasn't use to, but she would live. She climbed down the tree and hiked to a nearby forest stream where she took a long gulp of the cold water before returning. The gokobs were still asleep.

Siri sighed because she was frustrated. Yesterday she had lost the saber she had had since her early days on Coruscant. An hour later, the two rodents awoke and climbed down the tree. They were careful of Siri, but stayed close by for the most part. She felt that the second day passed by quickly. She stayed near the gokobs, who led her back to the Temple so they could scavenge for food from the Temple's kitchen. She managed to nab some food of her own while there. Even though it was only a little, it soothed her stomach pains. She napped there, and awoke several hours into the night with the gokobs sleeping on top of her chest; something that made her smile.

On day three it was the gokobs' turn to follow her. They followed her everywhere she went, and eventually, she decided to hunt down her Master. She returned to the spot where they had met the previous two times and collapsed, not unconscious but clearly tired. The gokobs watched her from a few feet away. By mid evening they felt comfortable enough with her to walk freely around her, though she had failed to move since she arrived. She now awaited Master Haar's arrival.

Haar appeared from the brush slowly, as to not frighten the gokobs that Siri spent days to acquire. The whole pack of gokobs that she managed to obtain days before were also with him, not frightened of him much like Siri's were to her.

He sat down next to Siri, looking straight into her eyes. "Do you understand why I wanted you to do this?"

Siri sat up and faced her master directly, "Not entirely." she answered truthfully. "But I think it's because you didn't want me to get so use to using the Force that I was incapable of solving a situation without it." she assumed. She then showed Haar her damaged training lightsaber. "I did what you said, and didn't use the Force, but I was forced to use this to protect these two from a giant creature we encountered out there." she explained, not wanting to hide her use of her lightsaber from her Master.

She then tossed the broken weapon to the ground. She was no longer upset about it's destruction, eventually she'd make a new saber. Whenever she could find the crystals she need, that is. She then looked to her Master, awaiting what he had to say.
