Valter let out a soft sigh as he wandered the halls of the Jedi Temple. He had been here only a few hours and already someone had taken him in as a padawn. He was very gratefull of his master, one Rain Adler, though he had only barely caught a glimpse of the person he would apparently be in servitude towards for the next few months. What if rain didn't like Valter, what if he was prejudiced against Umbarans and only chose him so as to guarantee that he didn't succeed.

No, he musn't think like that. He had to stop thinking like everyone was a Rootai backstaber like those back home. His arms crossed over his chest as he glanced around the main hall of the temple on Ossus. He was anxious to meet his master, and very anxious to learn how to harness this power he had only recently discovered. Perhaps this man, this Rain, would be the one to show him a greater purpose in life.

He stood in the center of the temple now, and closed his eyes. He exhaled a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding, this was where his new master had said to find him, and he wasn't here yet.

"Patience, Valter. He will be here soon... you have the rest of your life to learn the ways of the Force. "

Rain strolled through the Ossus Temple while whistling a tune. The buzz of chatter filled his ears as other Masters and Padawan conversed with eachother.

He walked into the Temple's ain hall and saw a boy who matched the description he'd been given. "Hello there," Rain said to the boy with a smile. "I'm your master, Rain Adler. Let's take this outside, a bit too noisy in here for my liking."

With that he led the boy outside and they sat down in a grassy field. "Tell me about yourself," Rain said to the boy.

Valter nodded towards Rain, sizing him up. A smile worked its way across his lips as he followed his new master outside. The smile of course, was only temporary.

Valter had arrived on Ossus the prior night, and with his connections in the Rootai caste was pushed through the process of selection fairly quickly, showing adept skills with the force, as if he had been trained somehow before. However, there was one thing about Ossus Valter had not come to expect, the sun.

The bloody sun was his mortal enemy, he was Umbaran after all. He shriveled back as it's warm light hit his lethargic body. He had known that he would be forced to deal with sunlight an all, but this was much worse than he expected, the light hurting his eyes immensely. Instantly he reached back and found the hood of his robes, throwing it over his head in a way that cast a shadow down over his face, ponytail falling down his shoulder.

"Master... Must we stay in the sunlight?" He asked, unable to think coherently yet. Sure he would get used to the sun, but as it was now he was a tad distracted.

"This is part of your training. You may be disturbed by the sun now but think about it. If you do well in training here with the sun you will do much better inside. It'll also help you adjust to your lightsaber's glow," Rain said this calmly to the boy. He was annoyed at the sun but adjustment wouldn't take too long.

"Now find anything you wish and levitate it. This is a simple skill but it will be made harder by your annoyance with the sun," he told Valter with a smile.

Valter glared at the sky, being sure not to look directly at the sun. Levitate something with his mind? What was this man thinking, that Valter hadn't done any training before he came to the Order?

His eyes darted down towards the ground, scanning for what he needed.A moment passed and he found the perfect rock. Using the force, he moved the rock, slowly at first, up into the air. He didn't stop their, he let out a breath and moved it closer towards him, then upwards more so that it blocked out the annoying sunlight. He hadn't moved his hand once.

He calmed down, got control of himself, and said rock steadied out. A few days ago this task would have seemed impossible to the frail Umbaran, yet now he felt as if it were childs play.

"Is this acceptable, Master?"

He spoke softly, hiding all traces of sarcasm in his voice. Perhaps he was too good for the order. Perhaps there was another group out there that could train him properly. No, he musn't think like that. Valter had devoted himself to protecting the people.

"Don't worry. You've done well. Now find six more stones and levitate them all at the same time. You may find this multi-focus difficult but it is still relatively easy," Rain said. He was surprised at how well Valter had done.

He looked down at the ground, disbeleif washing over his face. Six stones? He hadn't even begin to complicate the idea that he could use this odd power on multiple objects at the same time. Using his mind he levitated countinued to levitate the first stone, and began to focus on another. This caused the first stone to drop, making the sun glare in his face. The suprise of the sun caused him to drop the first stone.

"Damnit..."

A moment passed.

"Sorry Master, I hadn't meant to curse like that. Allow me to try again."

Using his mind alone, he broguht the first stone effortlesslly up to its original position, blocking out the light. Turning his eys to the other one, He applied some focus towards it, raising it as well. A smile washed over his pale face, confidence in his abilities. He moved the stone over towards the other one, and focused on them as a whole, diverting his mental blocks to focus on a third stone. This one was harder to move with just his mind.

It was then he had remembered something he had read in one of his many books. It was easier to control the force if you allowed it to flow through your body before using it to affect the outside world. Of course, how had he been so obtuse. If he focused the omnidirectional power to a single point, the idea of moving something seemed incredibly plausible, and would be , in theory, damn near effortless.

He raised his hand and pointed at a pile of rocks. Suddenly three rocks were being levitated, then four, then five, then six, but he wouldn't stop there. Six, Seven, Eight, Nine rocks were floating. Wait, he had been told to lift only six, and he musn't disobey his master. Three of the rocks feel softly to the ground, so that simply six rocks were floating.

He smiled and waved his hand, bringing the rocks towards him, so that they encircled him. They began to float around him at a steady speed, until he lowered his hands so that he could move them with just his mind. It was more vexing on him, but he wanted to practice this ucnanny ability of his. He assumed not needing to use your hands to move objects would proove usefool in combat scenarios.

" Will this do, my master?"

"That will do quite well, my padawan," Rain said with a chuckle. "Now, you know you can use the Force but I want to know if you know how you should use the Force. Simply explain to me how this gift should be used," Rain said this with a smile, not a smug one but just a small one to keep his emotions atleast partially hidden.

A sigh pursed the lips of the frail umbaran. Such a question hadn't really crossed his mind before. Sure he knew what he ought to have said, but why did he feel he should use the force. He viewed the force as a tool at this point, but that wasn't the way he should view it, not at all.

It was then that it dawned on him.

" You shouldn't use to force, for the force isn't a tool. It is a part of you, or a part of me if you will. You should allow the force to run through you, guide you, and tell you where it is that you should be. The force is my guide in life, and it is what has guided me here, master."

He hadn't known where this answer came from, he hadn't ever read it in a book. He guessed the answer came from his heart.

"That's similar to what I said when asked the question," Rain said, a bit off-handedly. "Well, I suppose we should go to another area of Jedi training: Lightsaber combat. Which form do you wish to learn?"

Valter had been keen on fencing as a child, as his frail physique would not suffer him defeat if he had more skill. Anyone who had known Valter prior to this moment would not be surprised in the least by his answer.

"Form II, Makashi."

"An interesting choice." Rain said as he mentally sifted through what he knew of the form. "How much about this form do you know? It'll help me in teaching you."

Valter glanced down at the ground as a look of embarasment washed over his face.

" I must admit I know little about the form, or lightsaber combat in general. I know that Makashi is the most elegant of the forms, and is similar to standard fencing in it's practice. I also know that it will be able to balance out my physical frailty as it is a form which uses light and quick strokes to damage your opponent. Though I will confess I wish I need never use a lightsaber in combat. I'm a pacifist by nature."

His eyes locked with his masters eyes when he declared himself a pacifist. It wasn't a lie, in the least bit. Though it was indeed rare for an Umbaran of such a high caste to hold such disdain for violence.

"You act as if I will hold that against you," Rain said with a chuckle. "Though you don't wish to engage in lightsaber combat your training in it will be just as thorough as it will be in the ways of the Force."

For the next fifteen minutes Rain educated Valter on the practice of Makashi, teaching him the opening stance, techniques, and everything else he knew of the form. After his lecture was finished he said, "Be warned that because this form was made before blasters were developed its defence against blaster fire is lacking," after saying this he handed Valter a training saber and stepped twenty paces backwards, after which he ignited his own saber.

"Now come at me!" he called to the boy.
