Tran was born on the planet Alderaan. His father had been an Alderaanian bureaucrat working to serve the Alderaainian people. His mother had come from Corellia and had put her maiden name into his middle name.
He had grown up with a peaceful childhood. Given that Alderaan was in the core, it had escaped many of the ravages of war which plagued other planets in the system. However, his mother had implanted some bit of angst into him for what had happened to her home world which had been re subjugated into the Republic and for what had happened to her brother. Tran and his Uncle only had lives that had overlapped for a few short months but Tran heard some of what his Uncle did when he got older.
Still, peace had made him somewhat supportive of the Republic and that his father did indirectly work for the Republic by determining who would get work relief benefits. Tran had thought to do something like that in the image of his father. On the other hand, his large stature made him want to do something a little more exciting as he knew he'd be capable of doing exciting things.
Throughout high school, he took a variety of classes to ensure he'd have a good bit of knowledge for doing whatever he needed to do. In that time, he had gotten his piloting license and began a small business by taxi-ing people around. It made good money so he continued to do it throughout college where he got a degree in business administration so he could better run his business.
He also had gotten licenses for larger vehicles and had been doing some interstellar travel along trade routes. Over time, he had upgraded some of his vehicles to be able to go into hyperspace independently. Unfortunately, the hutt war erupted as corrupt hutts began to attack hyperspace routes. While leaving his business with his mother and younger siblings, he began to enlist in the Republic military.
Soon after enlisting, battles over Mon Calamari erupted. He was speedily promoted to meet needs in the thin ranked Republic. In battle, he fought as well as he could but the battle overall was going poorly for the Republic and the ship barely escaped the conflagration at the end.
After the battle, fortunes were poor for the Republic as the Republic hadn't won a single offensive battle. So Tran Xu found a small troupe of soldiers and mercenaries and conducted a raid over Tatooine which went rather marvelously with few casualties and a some destruction to the Hutts on the planet. From there, he was given a larger group to raid Taris which went about the same as Tatooine.
As this went on, changes in Hutt leadership lead to less phlegmatic actions and they attacked Bothawui. Tran Xu was able to move in a provide some defenses for the planet before he was reinforced. The battle was seemingly even until he heard order from above to retreat. While he wished to do a little more and simply visit Nal Hutta, he thought better of it. For some reason, generals in the Republic tended to decry actions like that despite how it would have turned out or how it was carried out.
Regardless, he got promoted soon after to Admiral and High Admiral and carried out a few actions involving the rebuilding of a devastated suburb after Taung gunships were able to penetrate several layers of minefields and largely ignore actions taken by Republic ships and somehow escape through a minefield without taking any damage, most likely due to plaught armor. Tran quickly joined a commission to design better mine fields that could actually defend planets rather than merely being blasted through.
