DESCRIPTION​

Trikiirium is a type of heavy alloy derived primarily from Kiirium. Developed by metallurgists of the Satrapy in the Stygian Reaches, where many planets have extensive Kiirium reserves, the alloy represented a major advance in the technology of protective armor, and remains cutting edge in the region.

Like refined Kiirium, raw Trikiirium has a smooth, chrome-like luster, although some manufacturers will slightly alter the formula for a more matte finish. Trikiirium is roughly analogues to heavy duranium or doonium, although unlike these materials which tend to merely absorb imparted energy, Trikiirium has certain reflective properties, allowing it to "bounce" energy weapons to a limited degree. This effect is often augmented by active magnetic seal systems.

Trikiirium can be used as armor, however it has a number of non-military applications, chiefly for things like reactor shielding. Due to its unique luster, it is sometimes even used decoratively, such as for jewelry.

The invention of Trikiirium coincided with the most dramatic expansion phase of the Satrapy, whose warships briefly became much more durable than their foes. Eventually, however, other entities within the Stygian Reaches were able to replicate the production process for the new alloy, and heavier weapons capable of dealing with Trikiirium armor came into more widespread use.

Trikiirium is only manufactured within the Stygian Reaches, and is not generally used or available in the old Galaxy unless specially imported.
