The young boy sprinted down the hallway, skillfully dodging all of the...

Woops... uh scratch that. Most of the by passers.

Hollis headed down to his quarters. He threw open the doors. The room is small but neatly organized. Three steps to the right, hand reaches down the the desk. His fingers meet the training saber. The boy ignited it for good measure, spinning around on his back foot. Back out the door, saber on belt.

Training room six is his destination, though the enticing smell of fruit cake delayed his trip for a couple minutes. Physical energy was abundant in his actions and attitude, barely standing still while eating. Hunger quenched, off to the room!

Hollis grabbed the doorway as he slowed himself unsuccessfully upon reaching door. He hopped on one foot for a second before entering, regaining balance and harnessing his energetic mind. Deep breath, enter door. Jay hadn't arrived yet, though he had arrived rather early. He sat down cross legged in the center of the room, running his fingers across the cold flooring.

Jay wasn't running late, as such. There was some annoying beaurocratic nonsense that required him to fill out some paperwork and sign some documents involving taking on a Padawan Leaner. Naturally, Jay thought this a waste of time, and laid the appropriate amount of abuse upon the clerk in the Archives. The poor man nearly hid whenever Jay walked past, simply in fear of being clipped around the head.

When the Jedi Knight did arrive into the room and saw Hollis in the center of the room, he was pleasantly satisfied with the promptness of his student, "I was half expecting you to be stuffing your face with fruit cake in the mess hall, Padawan Holden. Keep up the punctuality and you and I will get along well."

Pulling his own lightsaber from the depths of his robes and holding it out, in plain view of Hollis, Jay spoke, "The Lightsaber. The symbol of a Jedi. His weapon, his tool. His last resort. Tell me what you do know about these weapons."

Hollis popped up as soon as Jay entered the room and almost laughed out loud at the mention of the fruit cake. The other Jedi pulled out his Lightsaber, holding it out. After a relatively short statement about it he gave him a question, as expected. "I learned to eat fast." he said, grinning and shrugging while reaching for his own Lightsaber.

The tool felt familiar in his small hands as he gracefully pulled it off his belt. Hollis gave the hilt a slight spin in the palm of his hand, turning it to a more useful angle. "I know that, as you said, they are the symbol of Jedi. A tool, as much as a weapon and very powerful." He paused for no more than a second, looking at the Lightsaber in his hand. "Well, this one isn't very powerful. I could hold it by the blade and come away with nothing more than bruises and maybe a minor burn. But most of them will cut through anything in the galaxy; save a few select substances such as Cortosis, Beskar or Mandalorian iron, Phrik and a few others." His gaze shifts up to Jay's face, "It requires both strength and dexterity to wield, and most people who are not Force sensitive can not use them past basics without cutting their limbs off. The Lightsaber is a extremely old weapons, dating back to before the organization of the Jedi Order, at least I'm pretty sure."

Hollis considered what he said for a second, pleased with his response over all. "I could go into some details about the interior, how they work and other similar things if you'd like. Lightsabers, and Lightsaber combat, are currently one of the most interesting things to me. I really like studying, watching and practicing." The last part of his sentence was hesitant, but he threw it out there anyways.

Jay nodded, so far impressed with the display of knowledge, "Please. The interior workings of a lightsaber have always confused me. Go on..."

This, of course, was only a half truth. Being a Jedi Knight, Jay had assembled his own lightsaber many years ago; by 'many' I mean to say something like twenty-five to thirty. Since then, having barely used it throughout the years, and never having lost or broken it, the Knight simply has never needed to construct a second. His current lightsaber showed the signs of age. What was once a chrome hilt wrapped in shining black leather, was now a scratched, battered, chipped mess wrapped in yellowed, worn, brown leather. Oddly, the lightsaber resembled Jay in many ways. They both had seen better days, but both were still very relevant to the the Jedi Order and its symbolism.

Hollis inhales deeply, calling to mind his limited knowledge of the lightsaber's internal parts. Basic pieces, no problem, how they work is a different story though. He looks at his own lightsaber quizzically for a moment before beginning.

"Well the parts are consisted of the hilt, pommel cap, power cell, power insulator, focusing lens, crystal, emitter matrix and blade emitter. The hilt obviously contains all the parts, the pommel cap and blade emitter are both located on the opposing sides of the hilt." Hollis gestures to the parts as he speaks, glancing up at Jay occasionally to see his responses. "The power insulator keeps the power contained inside of the hilt, otherwise you would probably die while handling one. I assume so at least. The, uh, crystals, focusing lens, and power cell are all internal parts. The power cell takes up most of the room inside there, and basically powers the lightsaber by emitting a plasma blade. Um, the focusing lens is pretty simple I guess, it focuses the blade. The crystals are very interesting I think. This one has a Kathra- Katracite crystal, I think it's pronounced, very common and low powered. And practically useless. Many other crystals have unique features, giving them strange effects as well as varying colors."

Hollis put his tongue in his cheek, a unconscious habit after speaking on topics he wasn't 100% sure on. The Padawan closes his hand around the weapon as his eyes shifted upwards to see Jay's reaction. Most of this was pretty basic things that they learned in the classes, as well as some things that he had heard from other Jedi. None the less, he was pretty sure his answer's were at least acceptable.

"I think that might be a better summary of a lightsaber than Weapon Master Armstrong is capable of giving," Jay nodded and motioned to the young boy, "I'm assuming you've undertaken some of the basic lessons of lightsaber combat?"

Without waiting for a response, Jay stuffed his lightsaber away into the depths of his robe, "Because if you have, it'll be the last class you take on the matter while I'm responsible for you. At least until I'm confident you understand some other things first."

Motioning to a bench seat at the side of the room, Jay led the charge and sat on it, shifting awkwardly in his many, many-layered robes. "We, as Jedi, have a responsibility to the galaxy, but also to ourselves. We've dedicated our lives to serving the people of the galaxy and ensuring their safety. To do that, we must also be true to ourselves, but we must first discover ourselves."

"Do you know what I mean by that?"
