"What is the worth of a single mortal's life?"

The oldest lie in the galaxy is that power can be innocent. No one wants to face the hard facts that the galaxy is a... sort of zero sum game. To better one person is to make another person’s life worse, and the only goal then is to make as many lives better with the lowest cost. Whether it should be like that or not is irrelevant. We live in an imperfect galaxy, and that means that whether we want it to be that way or not, we have to face the hard facts.

This then leads to the next question: who will make the hard choices and what do those choices need to be?

Is it moral authority or moral bankruptcy that positions someone to do make those decisions? My master Garm Ibs would have told you that it was the former, but I'm not so sure. Truly a man who was both Sith and Imperial, the split of the two groups nearly split him in his soul.

Over the years since the expulsion, he worked to find his way back into the Empire, but never with any success. His ideas made him unpopular within the Sith Order and he was forced to the periphery of the Order.

He sent me all over the galaxy, hunting rivals and assassinating people he thought would bring him power and influence. That was how I met Talia, a Nightsister from Dathomir who had remained in the Sith even after the Empress had returned to Dathomir.

The two of us became inseparable for the next several years, and she became a central part of my galaxy. I loved her and she loved me.

All seemed to be going well, and I was on the verge of being "Knighted" as a Champion when things fell apart. A rival Sith Master had finally had enough of our small sect of radicalized Sith and a showdown of assets ensued. Like a Kaggath of old only on a far smaller scale.

Master Ibs sent me after his rival, and although he outclassed me in power, subtlety, poison, and dueling skills won the day.

But it wasn't enough. The Kaggath was ultimately scorched earth and over the course of the months that followed Master Ibs was killed and so was Talia. I was incensed and filled with rage like nothing I've ever felt since then. I found the rival and through cunning, poison, and a duel I managed to kill him. I regret nothing.

Vander is a Sith Assassin by training and a strong believer in this path as the "best" of the Sith paths. He was trained in stealth, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination. He's a strong believer in the strength of a lightsaber and dueling.

His use of the Force is largely built around either direct combat or infiltration and he is not particularly well-versed in the "arcane" secrets of the Dark Side. Nor does he want to learn those techniques.

His most useful skill, though, is his mind and the ability to adapt to various situations. In stark contrast, his people skills leave a bit to be desired. He's distrustful and standoffish to most people.
