Meet me in the training room. Bring pleanty provisions as you will need them. The note in Jaques' hands read, though mysterious as his master was, he was still excited to have been chosen for training. Butterflies fluttered in his stomach as he tread through the halls of the temple, passing by other people who looked down at him, though not with disrespect, he could see the faith in their eyes, the faith they had in him, for he would be a Jedi-hope to the republic, and to the people. Jaques could feel their hope pouring into his own heart, and slowly but surely, he felt like he was doing something for the better of mankind, though it was not pride he was feeling, it was affection.

Jaques began to imagine what his master would look like, was he tall? Was he a veteran of the Alsakan war? Was he some form of humanoid, or was he a small creature? No matter the outcome he predicted, he would be happy with his master, or so he would hope. What if his master was coarse? Surely not, Jedi were wonderful people, and rarely gave into such negative emotions. But he never stopped thinking about how his master would look like, or how he acted. I bet he's a war hero! Jaques' hope let out a final act of desparation to keep him hopefull since he started to doubt his master.

As Jaques entered the training room he'd see a young man sitting Indian style in the center, a book propped open on his lap. Rocking back and forth casually, he wasn't actually reading, but rather preparing himself mentally for the challenge ahead of him.

Malz wasn't much of a teacher. He knew that he was considered childish and naive, so it came to a big surprise to him that he was chosen to train their newest padawan addition. He wondered what the council was trying to pull, but he knew that dwelling on it would not make the turnout any different.

Eventually he noticed Jaques's arrival. He smiled, put away the book, and sprung up from his position. He walked over and held out a hand as he inquired, "Hello! What's your name? I hope you brought cookies." He already sensed that this young one was his pupil, but it couldn't hurt to make sure.

Jaques saw the man approach him and extend his hand in a gesture to shake, but Jaques was a little reluctant to grasp it though, seeing as how his strange ability kicked on randomly even when he didn't need to use it. It wasn't normal for a person of Kiffar to have the ability to use psychometrics on living beings, but Jaques had that ability, and even though it was 1 in 100 chance for a kiffar to have psychometric abilities, he was that 1 in the 100, with an added bonus. From birth he was blessed, and even though he never knew his parents, he grew up to be decently happy. He finally grasped the man's hand, and a rush of memories flowed into him. From the start, he knew for a fact that this was his mentor, even though the force guided him to this man, he was able to back up this speculation he had.

"Good to meet you, I'm Jaques Zed Nafa'ar, your padawan the elders assigned to you." He smiled as he shook his hand firmly, looking down at his master. He's not very tall, nor does he even closely resemble anything I had imagined...ugh, I hope he trains me well. Jaques' thought to himself as he looked his Jedi Master in the eyes, a sign of respect he had learned while growing up. He let go of his hand and began to look around the room, examining each and every bit of it, soaking up the information he saw like a sponge. "The flight was decent enough, though this place is strange to me. I grew up on Coruscant at the Jedi temple there." He lugged his pack on his shoulder since it had started sagging down off his back, mostly due to the weight of it. His sudden burst of Psychometry caused him to forget completely about his master's hope for cookies.

The majority of the memories Jaques would pick up would involve Malz being silly as usual, as well as lots and lots of library time. A few of those would also include several of his missions, but nothing overly exciting, save for the most recent one involving him and several other Force-sensitives [See: A Game of Cat and Mouse].

Unaware of the involuntary invasion of privacy that just took place, Malz replied, "A pleasure to meet you, Jaques. My name's Malz Terris. You can call me whatever you want; Master, Malz, anything goes. Except for 'Mr. Cheekypants.' That's reserved for someone special." He motioned for the center of the room where he had just been sitting, "Feel free to rest with me. Coruscant you say? I've been there only a few times. Amazing city, nothing like my own home planet of Alderaan."

He was saddened by the apparent lack of cookies, but he'd get to that later. If they were to both sit down as Malz offered, he'd continue, "So, since you grew up in the temple, I'm assuming you can tell me the Jedi Code then?" He waited for the response.

Jaques was pleased to have proven this was his master twice now, and that his intuition had also proven correct, which grew into an increased faith in his force knowledge. However knowlageable he was as far as listening to it as it guided him, he found himself at a stand-still. Malz was an inquzitive young jedi knight who seemed to want to get right down to business with Jaques, which probably involved meditation, though his question left Jaques scrambling around in his mind trying to remember the words. He didn't know the words right off the top his head however, but he did know them nontheless. "Umm..." Jaques crossed his arms and placed his thumb and index finger of his right hand and placed them on his chin as he began to think.

"Emotion..... yet peace.
Ignorance.... yet knowledge.
Passion.... yet serenity.
Chaos... yet harmony.
Death... yet the Force.
"

Between each phrase, Jaques had to take a moment to find the words needed to complete each line, but he also wanted to be certain.

The Knight smiled at his padawan's struggle. Ok, so he wasn't totally ignorant, and the lack of on-the-spot recital showed he did in fact have a life. He briefly recalled his own days as a padawan. He was always studying, always his head in a book. While he still had time for play, his mind was constantly going over what he had learned that day and the day before. My how things...haven't changed a bit.

Breaking out of his flashback, he nodded, "Very good! Though of course being a Jedi is more than just memorization of the Code. Your biggest challenges will be when you have to act on it and actually follow it." He reached into one of his robe's pockets and pulled out a red bouncy-ball.

Malz held the ball out on the palm of his hand and instructed, "Now it's time for some practical knowledge. Show me any amount of control of the Force by applying it to this ball. You can send it soaring upwards, you can make it roll along my body, you can even just nudge it a bit. Don't feel any sort of pressure or shame from this, this is all to gauge your ability." He wasn't expecting much, but then again he has been surprised before. He assumed that if they taught the Code to him, the temple should've at least taught him some Force Power.
