What is your favorite historical or mythological creature?

My favorite historical creature has got to be the velociraptor. My favorite mythological creature has got to be the Dragon. Although, it could be argued that dragons are not mythological, as they have appeared in several texts in ancient cultures that could not have communicated with each other. The existence of dragons in these texts arguably makes them historical even if there's no evidence they ever physically existed.

All that being said, what is your favorite creature that historically existed? Also, what is your favorite creature in mythology?

historically, I've always loved the sabertooth tiger. The idea of the creature fascinates me. As for mythology, elves. I've always been interested in elfish lore.
