World at War: City of Steel

Greetings comrades here is the sign up thread for one of the RPs I discussed about doing over on Discord. The setting itself as you can guess takes place in the early days of the infamous Battle of Stalingrad. It will mostly deal with Soviet survivors formed into a makeshift squad stranded behind enemy lines. Here are the simple ground rules.

1)This RP will he operated in a story narrative with a dice system to manage the opposition for the most part.

2) Furthermore this will be a seventy two hour time limit for a reply to each post. If a roleplayer can’t post by then they will be skipped and possibly resulting their character’s demise.

3) You must fill out this character sheet in order to join. I will do the example with my own.

Short Bio: Nazar was born to a large extended peasant family of blacksmiths in a remote Armenian village months before the Soviet annexation of the country. Growing up in the harsh countryside and working at smithing the young boy developed into a hard working yet curious person. During the Great Purge of 1937 he witnessed with great shock the arrest of his favorite school teacher, Zinvor Panosyan by the secret police despite being formerly known as a staunch member of the communist party. He never saw him again. Life moved on in the midst of fear for Nazar who continued in his profession even as World War 2 began.

It all changed with the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union. By May, 1942 Nazar Darbinyan was finally drafted into the Red Army. Following a period of training, the young man and his unit were sent to reinforce the besieged city of Stalingrad...

Personality: Having grown up in a remote mountain settlement Nazar hasn’t seen much of the world. This left the young man with a deep amount of curiosity for learning that was expnanded by his former teacher Zinvor. A seeker of knowledge is one of the best ways to describe him. Family and friends means a great deal to Nazar but he is mistrustful of strangers’ intentions having grown up in the Stalinist purges that even reached the mountains.

Short Bio: Born in Petrograd on November the 7th, Milyutin Lev Anatolievich, was deemed to be a natural born Bolshevik for being born on the same day the Bolsheviks began to overthrow the Provisional Government. Having grown up with this expectation, he grew up at the heart of the revolution to working class parents and he became the perfect soviet that they had envisioned him to be, if only because he had no choice in the matter.

Personality: Lev is a very straight forward man - he believes in the Party and he believes in the cause. To him, the Soviets are bound to win the war and unite the peoples of Europe and, eventually, the world under their banner as they strive towards the peace, prosperity and enlightenment. As a person, he is passionate and driven and loyal but he is prone to fits of anger when frustration and, despite being intelligent, he isn't as well educated as he could be.

Short Bio: Born in Novonikolayevsk on March 20th, his father was the station foreman of the town his mother took care of him and his little sister. He was 8 when the civil war broke out, he lost his father and sister to typhus during first few months of the war, in early 1919 he and his mother fled the town after the news of the red army approach, he lived the rest of his life Kolpashevo where he became a hunter and trapper. On the onset of war, the red army conscripted him and rest of his villages men, given his considerable experience in firearms and accuracy with them he was made his units sniper.

Personality: Having grown with the loss of his father and sister during the civil war he has resentment for the government and most authority and is standoffish at best with them, as such this influenced his decision to become hunter and trapper as it meant at least amount of time in contact with both, ultimately he doesn't care for the party only for his family and his continued survival. He doesn't thrive in large groups, he is engaging and expressive in one-on-one conversations. He has a patient temperament and can be very introspective. His background as a hunter, his curiosity, and attention to detail has trained him to be mindful and precise.

Short Bio: Born to a father who is Russian and a mother who was Jewish. Gideon was the only child his parents will have and was a surprise arrival as his mother showed no signs that she was pregnant until she was so far into the pregnancy. His arrival happened to be during the time his mother and father were in Ukraine for some sort of political meeting.
Giving in to his father's wishes. Gideon joined the Red Army during the year of 1938 and just as he got done with training the Pact with Germany was signed allying the two nations. The young man didn't like Hitler or what the man stood for. But being a low ranking soldier all he could do was keep his mouth shut about the whole thing. Gideon saw a lot more than what he bargained for, and even got his own hands dirty, though not willingly since he was following orders. After some time on the front lines and proving himself to be an excellent marksman and the Nazi invasion. Gideon was sent to Stalingrad with a few other men to reinforce the important location.

Personality:
Though he joined somewhat out of duty and to please his father. Gideon is dedicated to his duty as a soldier. Doing his best to serve flawlessly and without question. The young man always carefully picks where his sniper's nest will be, choosing the best location he can find. The young man takes his job as sniper seriously and uses it to protect his comrades to the best of his abilities. He cares a great deal about the safety and wellbeing of the other soldiers and does take each loss personally.

Because of his experiences so far and what not, the young man does have a heavy sense of guilt for somethings he had to do. And for that reason, Gideon wishes to make up for all he had to do. On top of all that though despite all of that, Gideon still has a sense of humor and is social with everyone except towards German prisoners who he will cruelly taunt as they pass him. Gideon hates Germans.

Short Bio: Vasiliy Degtyaryov (or Vasya for short) is the son of the Central Committee of the Communist Party' member who was the leader of its cultural department and representative of the Party in the Kharkov region. Vasiliy' father work was pretty simple - spreading Communist and Soviet propaganda and create events based on the Soviet' values. His son had has father' features - being a pupil Vasya become the active Komsomol and was actively participating in different sports competitions and spending his summer holidays in the collective farms as a volunteer. Got some dog trainer skills. He even was able to visit Belarus and Russia during his school years. VLKSM has heavily appreciated it. Shortly after his start of the military service, which was mandatory for every young people starting from eighteen, Vasiliy was involved in the battle for his hometown as the machine gunner in the composition of motorized rifle division, but after few failed attempts of the Soviet command to free Kharkov, Degtyaryov was relocated with his family to Stalingrad. However, without his father who went missing during the Nazi attacks. For his efforts in killing Nazi occupiers in Derhachi and after in Kharkov itself (as a partisan), he was promoted to Jr. Lieutenant rank. In Stalingrad, his mother continued her work as a nurse and Vasya was assigned to Kreizer' 2nd Guards Army.

Personality: Vasya is the real Soviet patriot who can sing the Soviet anthem with closed eyes. Because his childhood was in a collective farm, he used to hard labor, but since he highly motivated by the Soviet propaganda to work hard, he enjoys it. He is a quite friendly guy and appreciates the friendship. However, he doesn't like vodka considering it as a poison and will never drink it even if offered (albeit he knows how to use it for medical purposes from his mother).
