Write-ups That Don't Need Approval

I've seen a lot of tech write-ups that the mods say need no approval. It's usually for stock weapons that aren't really all that remarkable. However, that line is a little hard to find, and I think it would be good for a flat write-up to be done listing the features that don't need approval. Something like 'if rifle's range is less than 500m, a capacity of 30 or less, and can penetrate light or medium armor, it does not need approval" for example.

So is there something we can do to establish a less-vague line? And when we have a write-up that does not need approval, where is the appropriate place to post it? Approved Write-ups, somewhere else altogether?

Just wondering. Any help is appreciated!

Hard numbers that you see in the tech boards are really only for balance-checking purposes more then anything, and they rarely come up in the RP itself, so we can't really say 'stuff that is less then x doesn't need approval.' If something's sufficiently standard and/or generic, like a blaster pistol, why would we need to approve that? why would it need a write-up for anything beyond flavour and unnecessary fluff? That level of extra detail can easily go into your character profile if necessary, but it's not in any way vital.

Well, I really enjoy making tech write-ups even if it's for fairly standard tech, and I know there are other people on here that do too. I want there to be a page where people can visit, and decide if the rifle I designed is good for their character. I like having that reference there, without linking to my character's profile. Having a page for a company is a lot of fun, like my Praxus Pondervan or Vencu's MandalTech, and sometimes those include some pretty standard equipment.

Maybe they should be blog posts? Although that would likely exclude them from any future tech list Cisco might cook up.

Well I guess I'm kind of confused what you're looking for here, because you have a place for that - it's linked in your signature with the Praxus Pondervan thing. Alternatively you could outsource designs to Independant or Main Factions and see if they're interested. However, you ultimately do have limited options if you don't plan on going down the path of faction affiliation, because we don't want to give NPC organisations too much influence for obvious reasons.

Right, I do have my page, but I mostly just link to the tech write-ups once they're approved. I just don't want to post one that I think doesn't need approval only to have someone tell me it does, and I'm sure the tech mods are tired of seeing things that they say doesn't need approval.

Mostly I'm just looking for clarification on where write-ups should be posted if they don't need approval (and when they aren't necessarily connected to a specific PC), and putting forth the suggestion that the line be quantified in some way.

The extra fluff of those write-ups is really enjoyable for some of us; even if the design doesn't need approval, we like creating it and using it in RPs, so not posting it at all or putting it in a character profile really kinda stinks.

And I'm saying that we can't make a hardline 'this means it doesn't need to be approved.' Use some common sense, and if in doubt, post it, and we'll tell you. The tech section is too broad and varied to hammer down in exact detail what doesn't need approval. There are several sections you can acceptably place tech at the moment, which I outlined in my previous post.

The extra fluff of those write-ups is really enjoyable for some of us; even if the design doesn't need approval, we like creating it and using it in RPs, so not posting it at all or putting it in a character profile really kinda stinks.

Ultimately, whether you think it stinks or not isn't really our concern. We tried requiring all tech to have an approval, and it just became unwieldy and unnecessary, and it threw approval times out by weeks. Poring over every minor detail of any tech write-up takes up a considerable amount of time, and it's simply too inefficient to require all tech to be reviewed when stuff like standard tech doesn't need to be.

Fair enough. Just wanted to see if there was a more efficient way to do it, but if this is the best way for the staff, that's all I need to hear. Thanks.
