It was the tension between these two poles — a restless idealism on one hand and a sense of impending doom on the other — that kept me going.

A member of the Jedi Order with a cynical view towards just about every organization in the galaxy, and a deep distrust of most authority, Zanra is your basic hot-headed Jedi Knight. She probably qualifies as the technical variety of pacifist, not really into the whole killing thing, but figuring that if she's going to have a lightsaber she should probably do something with it. As a Jedi, she mostly wanders the galaxy attempting to do good things and thwart evil-doers. Or more accurately, she's a self-righteous space hobo with a giant glow stick.

__BIOGRAPHY

Having become a member of the Jedi at around five or six, Zanra doesn't remember a whole lot about home. She knows she's from Shawken, and that her family lived in a densely urbanized area of the planet. Beyond that however, it's just snippets here and there of memories that mean nothing without any context. Eating raisin oatmeal alone at a table in the early dawn, playing with a few cheap toys, a woman she's pretty sure was her mom sleeping on the sofa while she watched something on the holoscreen, stuff like that. She has no idea how she ended up with the Jedi, or why, and isn't particularly worried about finding out.

Likewise, she doesn't remember a lot about her early years in the Jedi Order, except that it involved a lot of repetition. When you're a Padawan, your days are typically filled with doing the same thing over and over again, although part of that might have just been her. Always on the stubborn side, and always falling asleep during lessons, Zanra was never the quickest learner, but was a dedicated one in her own way. If there was a problem she couldn't solve, she just kept trying, often at the expense of other problems, until she got it right. Of course, if she'd paid more attention in class she might not have had to spend so much time working on the same problem, but don't tell her that. Even today she's not a big fan of skipping over something when there's still an obvious problem waiting to be solved staring her in the face.

Life wasn't all dull however. As much as the Jedi try to emulate a cup of stale coffee, you can't exactly keep kids from being kids. There were moments of fun, such as swinging one of the practice lightsabers around like an idiot with your eyes covered, and moments of not so fun like when Vicki pulled her hair and she was just defending herself and it's totally unfair that she got in trouble for fighting too. More often than not it was a combination of a brash nature, and a wanderlust born of hating being cooped up in the Temple that got her into trouble with the Jedi elders who ran the place.

Like most Jedi perhaps, the parts of her life as a young Padawan-learner that Zanra remembers best are the visit to Ilum (mostly that is was really, really, really cold), and being taken under the wing of a Jedi Knight. The latter was obviously the more impacting of the two in the long run, but who can forget their first lightsaber nearly exploding because they weren't paying attention to crusty old droid and put a part in backwards? Her mentor ended up being a Jedi Knight by the name of Nestrik Écor.

Nestrik was a human woman, on the shorter side, a just a tad less brash and impulsive than Zanra. Nestrik was of the Justicar variety of Jedi which meant a lot of wandering around trying to solve wrongs, and help people. Younger than one usually pictures for a Jedi Master, Zanra was the first Padawan that the Council had ever assigned to her.

She taught her gangly padawan the importance of not being an idiot teenager when handling a weapon that could practically cut through anything, and imparted some of her own values on her as well. She took the tenet of respecting life to an extreme degree. In her view, one should never take a life of their own volition, regardless of who it was. It was a viewpoint that Zanra took to heart, but perhaps the most important thing that the Knight taught her was to be just a little more observant. It went hand in hand with the whole "try not kill people" thing as you kind of had to pay attention if you weren't going to kill anyone, while wielding a sword made of pure plasma.

Most of what Zanra observed was corruption. On the various missions, assignments, adventure-times, and whatever else you want to call doing Jedi stuff, the running theme seemed to be how corrupt just about every corner of the galaxy was. Cops taking bribes from gangs on one world, corporations doing sick experiments on another, and so on. She grew to really dislike a lot of institutions, especially the Republic which, to her, was just a mess of sleaze and profiteering.

It was all a combination of sickening and heart wrenching stuff that she saw on her travels, but at least she was making a difference. The Jedi were a force for good, helping the little people, and all that good stuff. As she approached Knighthood herself, she found that her mentor didn't exactly share her opinions when it came to things like stopping the Sith. Nestrik was more of the "wait and see" opinion, while Zanra still being something of a hot headed idiot was of the "these guys needs to be stopped now" mindset. Nonetheless, she had the support of the older Jedi for undertaking the trials and becoming a Knight herself.

As a Knight, it didn't take Zanra long to join up with the congregation of other Knights and associated Jedi under the banner of the Jedi Lord Bau Zo. Her life as a Jedi hasn't really changed all that much, only now she gets to choose where to stop for food, and there's usually extra amounts of Sith around.

__PERSONALITY

Zanra is optimistic about people, and cynical about institutions. In her view, people are basically good. People might be sick, or might have been mystified into doing wrong, or just might not know any better, but there's no one who's born evil. Most organizations on the other hand are basically the Dark Side. She's a firm believer that power corrupts people, and that nine times out of ten, it's really the larger organization itself that's at fault rather than the individual. You give someone ultimate power, they might do the right thing. You keep giving people ultimate power, and eventually someone's going to give into the temptation to use it. Maybe not for nefarious purposes, but eventually it will be corrupted into exactly that. Institutions like the Republic which are founded on noble ideals, but end up being little more than elected oligarchies more interested in self interest than the common good.

In her opinion, such corrupt institution should be torn down, and built back up with the lessons learned from the past. There's absolutely nothing to gain from letting them keep on existing, and that's going to happen is that the galaxy is going to turn into an even worse place. To put it more simply, her run ins with unscrupulous groups on the Outer Rim have given her a healthy skepticism of authority, and a more revolutionary mindset. The Jedi Order isn't somehow immune to this, but she trusts the Jedi Lord. Things are being done, and bad guys are being stopped. What's not to like? She might not agree with everything, but recognizes that hers is far from the only opinion in the galaxy, and that she doesn't have the whole picture that one of the Generals might have.

She's pretty inflexible when it comes to some of her principals however. Key among them is not killing, well, anyone really. Certainly she'll fight, defend, and attack someone like a Sith, but she'll generally refrain from going for killing strikes. Obviously in the chaos of a battle, someone's bound to die whether you want them to or not. To her that doesn't mean that you should make the conscious decision to take another life when there are alternatives. And there are always alternatives in her view. This will probably get her into major trouble at some point, but she'd rather stick to her guns and accept the consequences.
Zanra is just observant enough, and just impulsive enough to see that doing something would be very stupid, and do it anyway. She's certainly a risk taker, willing to jump feet first into a dangerous situation if she feels the situation warrants it. She's better about being so quick to rush to a judgment than she was when she was younger, but she's still fairly young and dumb. Certainly no one's ever accused her of being exceptionally wise for her age. She's generally a more action oriented person, who'd rather be doing something rather than sitting around contemplating doing something. She trusts the Force to guide her instincts, and all that mumbo-jumbo, and leaves the details for reflection at a later point.

She's not one for fanciness, either in words, or in lifestyle. She prefers spartan accommodations that don't offer much in the way of distraction. She's usually a very focused person, but not really one for the bigger picture. She tends to do what she thinks is right for the situation at hand, which might not translate into what might have been best in the long run. She's far from being the perfect Jedi, but her heart's usually in the right place. She's always outspoken, and isn't one afraid to express her opinion on a matter regardless of how popular it may be. Intellectually she leans more towards street smarts than book smarts, and an involved discussion of how a hyperdrive works, or something like, that will bore her to tears.

From a social standpoint Zanra's outgoing, but a little obtuse. She doesn't really have a sense for "things that don't make for polite conversation" and as a result can come across as blunt, and ever so slightly crude. She's generally easy to talk to, and enjoys being in the company of others more than being alone. At least, as long as it isn't too many, one-on-one conversation is preferable to a larger group setting. In her opinion, you can't really talk to several people, just make witty remarks in hopes of being the center of attention, and that's not really conversing. If Zanra could be summed up in one word it would be restless. She's always agitating, always on her way somewhere, and always looking to do something. Preferably the right thing, or failing that at least something fun.

__ATTRIBUTES

Zanra is pretty strong, but not exceptionally so. She's probably about average for someone of her size, who actually bothers to stay in shape. Likewise she's pretty quick as as a result of regular exercise, and training, but isn't super-humanly so. She puts a great deal of emphasis on footwork in particular, and is a highly mobile combatant. Her hand-eye coordination is also excellent, and her usual combat style is to use that in concert with fancy footwork to keep from dying horribly. Stamina-wise, she's only human, but a very healthy one. She has no special vulnerabilities or resistance to any diseases, toxins, exposure to vacuum, or anything like that. Unless you count a well honed tolerance to higher heat units on the scoville scale.
Mentally, Zanra's not an idiot, but not for lack of trying. She's plenty observant but is easily bored, and does not have the scholar's mindset. She's definitely got street smarts however, after years of roaming the edges of the galaxy alongside her Jedi Master, and not dying in the process. Nobody's ever going to call her a font of wisdom, or even common sense for that matter, but she has the basics down. Stove hot - don't touch, lightsaber hot - don't touch, don't break the glass unless it's an emergency, and so on. As an example, she knows how to use a blaster pretty well. But ask her how it works, and she'll just say that the blaster bolt comes up the barrel end when you squeeze the trigger.

__SKILLS

When it comes to using the Force, Zanra doesn't really go for anything all that flashy. As a trained Jedi Knight, she has the fundamentals down pat, and understands well the dangers of overdoing things, and she generally eschews trying to do anything that requires a lot of energy when she knows there's more fighting to be done. In terms of acrobatics, energy manipulation, healing, telekinesis, and sense, she's about average for a Jedi Knight. She's very good with mind manipulation, in the area of defending her own mind from attack, but only average in other areas of the discipline. She's not very good at healing or trances, because they require someone to actually sit still for a significant length of time. As a consequence she also isn't good with the status effect type powers that rely on trances to a a greater degree.

As far as Lightsaber wielding goes, Zanra is primarily a practitioner of Form III. She uses a crossguard variant of the standard design, but doesn't have much experience with other exotic designs, or wielding two lightsabers at once. She's reasonably acrobatic, and as previously mentioned, prefers movement in combat as opposed to planting one's self in a single spot. She has some hand-to-hand experience, as well as experience with other melee weapons like a vibrosword. She knows her way around a blaster, but it isn't really her preferred thing to use when fighting.
Zanra's a decent pilot of speeders, and smaller spacecraft, if only because that's what a Padawan's for whilst the Jedi Master sleeps the entire trip does something mystical. She doesn't have a lot in the way of technical expertise however, which is probably way her favorite method of dealing with a locked door is to just stick a universal key into it. Asking her to fix a droid or something is a recipe for an improvised explosive. Her medical skills are only slightly better, in that she knows that bandages go over the wounded parts. Horticulture is basically the worst of both worlds as far as she's concerned, so don't ask to look after any of your plants if you really value them.

When it comes to languages, Zanra's only really proficient in basic. She knows enough Huttese to get by, but it's mostly just curse words, and stock phrases from tourist guides. She can understand droidspeak, but obviously can't actually speak it, although she's tried with varying degrees of embarrassment. Matching her technical expertise, her slicing skills are only really proficient in making something go terribly wrong by accident. She as experience with free running, and is generally pretty good in the sports arena. She's decent climber, and wilderness survival isn't much of a problem for her, even if she spends the entire time cursing at inanimate objects.

__APPEARANCE / MISC

nYBjhh4.png
Zanra's on the tall side, with long dark brown hair, and dark brown eyes. She doesn't have much in the way of scars or other marks at present. Giiven her line of work, that's likely to change in the near future, and if she's lucky, all she'll get is a scar somewhere. She has two tattoos, one on each of the two fingers before the pinky on her right hand. One is a crescent moon, and the other is a sun symbol. Why? Because tattoos are cool, that's why. Her general style can change a dime, from something more conservative, to something more punkish. She's pretty good at blending in, wearing whatever the situation requires, and not getting hung up on whether or not it's fashionable. She generally prefers a more punkish look however , if only because people usually expect a Jedi to look like a hobo from Tatooine or something.

[1] I picture it as being, basically the inverse of a flame thrower. Just some foamy-liquidy stuff, nothing insane like cryoban tech, or anything particularly bad for the living, like halon.

Credit goes to @ZayPat for the profile layout. I got tired of waiting for you on skype, so I STOLE IT WITHOUT PERMISSION, FITE ME BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Pretty sure @Bee had something to do with it as well, but she's just like an old code factory worker or something.
Also shoutout to @Korvo for dat awesome Jedi Justicar writeup.
