PERSONALITY TRAITS
Val was an only child born to a family of nautolan kolto traders on the planet of Manaan. His parents were neither poor nor rich but were perfectly content with their life as simple merchants and wanted nothing more than this simplicity. Val on the other hand was not satisfied with his bland existence and wanted something more. An adventure of sorts. He heard stories from the passing customers of the sith and the jedi and then would look to the skies and imagine a life among the stars as a daring hero of the Galactic Republic.
As he grew older his wanderlust intensified, he wanted nothing more than to get out of this rut. His prayers were answered when a smuggler by the name of Brezac Kaythe came to pick up a shipment of kolto from his parents. He had the look of a veteran soldier, face adorned with unshaved whiskers and scars. Val had heard of many wild stories pertaining to this man, apparently he had fought many battles with as a pilot in the Republic and then became a smuggler. He pleaded to Kaythe with tears in his eyes to take himself with him. Kaythe saw great promise in Val’s eyes, a passion that he hadn't seen since he was a kid himself, so he agreed. Then without a single goodbye Val accompanied Kaythe to traverse the stars aboard his starship, Quiver.
His time with Kaythe taught him a great many things, such as not to transport fiercely carnivorous aliens, how to pilot a starship and how fire a blaster without losing an eye. On one occasion they had a cargo of jubba birds. Unfortunately after trying to feed one of them, it savagely attacked Val leaving a nasty claw-like scar on the right side of his torso. Of course after that he plucked the bird and used its feathers to adorn one of his tentacles. Val learned quickly and after a few years he was a far better pilot and shot than Kaythe ever was. Kaythe and Val went past being mentor and student but became so close they were almost father and son. Growing old, Kaythe knew that he couldn't keep up with the smuggling business for much longer so he decided to quit while he was ahead. When he stepped down, he passed the reigns and his starship down to Val.
Over the following months, Val continued doing cargo runs but he slowly became more and more daring. He challenged himself to go further, fly faster and fight harder. This unfortunately accumulated quite a few enemies but he didn't mind, it was all about the excitement, the adrenaline. His love for piloting brought him to joining the Skyline Dragons, a vigilante group of pilots in hopes of gaining fame and glory and finally fulfilling his dreams of becoming a hero among the stars.

As soon as he could walk on land, he became the apprentice of a kolto trader by the name of Waso. Waso was unfortunately a terrible salesman. He would get hustled regularly causing him to lose large amounts of profits. He quickly became the laughing stock of the industry and his business was run into the grou-... well... water. To add insult to injury, his stock was ransacked by a gang of criminals and in an attempt to stop them was killed.
Chata was horrified that the trade officials could let something like this happen. From that day he vowed to be a bastion for his people, preventing anyone else to experience Waso's fate. The government quickly noticed Chata's economic expertise and appointed him the position of Minister of Trade and Exports. In his new position, Manaan's economy thrived and the selkath flourished. This was no coincidence as Chata had begun to enforce strict laws pertaining to crimes against traders. Sentences for these crimes included heavy fines and in certain cases, the death sentence. He became an idol for the selkath and gained favour among the merchants. A few months later Chata was elected to be the next senator of Manaan and use his negotiation skills on a broader scale. In the Galactic Senate, he could preserve Manaan's neutrality and truly protect his people.
