Traces of the dark side lingered around the kitchen. Minor, yet shrilling as it brushed passed Johanes' light. "Darkness." He looked at Zessel (@LouJoVi) with a firm frown. "Remains of it, here and there." It wafted around the kitchen like a faint and foul scent.

Alhazred's (@Narzen) advice echoed in Johan's mind as he continued to reach out with the Force. 'We will. May the Force be with you out there.' Famous last words... His eyes scanned the kitchen as his focus returned to searching the tavern through the Force.

With the others gone, his discretion departed with them. Opening cupboards, rummaging through drawers— he looked for anything that was out of the ordinary. The lingering darkness was enough justification so far as he was concerned.

More importantly, though. How did the kid get kidnapped from here? The three of them were in the kitchen while Johanes and the rest of the Jedi dealt with the abomination. Or so he believed.

The thought took priority as his attention shifted from turning the place upside down to finding another way out. He looked around for anything suspicious. A hidden entrance under a creaky floorboard. Or maybe behind a cupboard. The window was also an option, as he walked over and took a peek outside, hoping to spot anything.

All his attention was fixed on finding something of note, anything at all.

- Tavernkeep Lio -

Heidi, despite the popular belief that she was a Jedi Knight, was visibly scared as she followed the two Padawans and the man. It was her first 'mission' involving an actual Darksider. She'd met her fair share of bad people on her travels, but not the kind who would litter the ground with dead birds. So she was grateful that the others had taken the lead and that she could silently follow them.

Lio, on the other hand, did not show any fear. His face hardened, his heartbeat slowed; he had one goal in mind: to rescue his son safe at all costs. And with three people to back him up, he was confident that he could win every fight. That's why he was surprised when Macote (@Fine Dining Set) abruptly stopped and presented a less... brutal plan. It was sneaky. And he was not the sneaky type. But, hey, the kid must have had a good plan. So, with a firm nod, he allowed Shaw(@throwitintothefire) to tug him towards the tree line.

He knelt and hid behind a bunch of leaves, as Shaw had instructed. And Shaw was correct; Lio was restless, his hand firmly gripping the hilt of the butcher knife. But he waited, listening to the boy's encouragement in silence while keeping an eye out. Heidi was sitting next to them, her hands in the ground and the Force coursing through her body, ready to attack.

While the Tavern keeper and the two Padawans prepared, Macote stood bravely in the middle of the barren field, snowflakes dancing around him as the moon began to rise in the sky. His voice echoed through the forest and up the mountain, but was met with silence.

It almost looked like the person he was shouting at had not heard him. Almost. The wind suddenly picked up. The snowflakes that had once danced violently swung through the air, circling Macote. The wind howled loudly, almost piercingly, after the Jedi's short journey in silence. But in between those howls, there was an unusual sound: a voice. It began as a shrill laugh and then evolved into words. "B̷o̷o̷o̶y̴y̶.̶.̸.̷ ̶Y̷o̸u̶ ̶w̷i̸s̷h̵ ̵t̴o̷ ̶m̵o̴o̷o̷o̶c̶k̶ ̶m̸e̵?̷" Another shrill laugh echoed across the barren field, coming from every direction. ""̵U̵p̶ ̷t̸h̴e̷ ̵m̶o̷u̷n̴t̸a̴a̶i̶n̴n̵n̶.̸.̶.̵ ̷Y̴o̷u̷ ̵c̴a̵n̶ ̵f̷i̷n̷d̴ ̶m̶e̴.̴.̶.̷"̴

It came to an end just as abruptly as it had begun. The wind disappeared the snow resumed its graceful dance, and silence returned. Lio had stared at the Padawan throughout it all, his blood as cold as the mocking wind. He stood up, his gaze fixed on the path that would lead them up the mountain, where a cave entrance was found not far up. He had seen that cave entrance many times before, but never up close, and had never bothered to enter it. But now it seemed like the most logical choice. "So, I suppose that was an invitation to that hellhole. Are you all still good to go?"

(Option: Roll a 1d20 for investigation to learn more about the cavern entrance.)

_______________

- Tavernkeep Roza -

Roza's boots stomped through the snow as she, Alhazred(@Narzen) and A'kari(@Mythos) exited the tavern, leaving the investigating Padawans behind. "You were damn right in assuming you couldn't talk me out of it." She huffed and stared straight ahead. Her shoulders tensed, her knuckles white as she clutched the oversized fork in her fist. Just as she had told them, they were heading west, where there was a small path leading away from the town and into the forest.

Unlike the group near the mountain, the group that went deeper into the forest had a peaceful time. The sounds were right where they belonged, and the scent in the air that lingered was lovely, reminiscent of a perfect pine-tree forest in the middle of winter. Critters ran past their feet before darting away, attempting to avoid the humanoids' disturbances. It was exactly as it should have been; it was flawless.

Too flawless.

Because, despite appearances, the Jedi and Roza felt a shiver run up their spine. But the Zabrak woman remained silent, unless the Jedi decided to speak with her. Instead, she pushed on until they came across the footprints of a beast. Roza stared at them for a moment before shifting her attention to Alhazred and A'kari. "We should get right to them if we follow the footprints." She raised her upper lip in disgust at the situation.

The more they walked, the more the Jedi would begin to notice that something was off. The animals got too close to their feet. The scent was inexplicably perfect and whimsical, and where was the breeze that brought the snowflakes? This was not how nature was supposed to work; this is how it worked in holomovies. That left the Jedi with one question: what now? Return to the tavern, or keep going?

(Option: Roll a 1d20 for investigation to figure out what's wrong with the environment.)

_______________

- Tavern Kitchen and Raving Ants -

Johanes(@Wills) began searching the tavern's kitchen, quickly joined by Zessel(@LouJoVi). On closer inspection, he discovered traces of what seemed to be a fight. The wall furthest away had streaks of burned wood, the smoke was still dancing off it slightly. There were also blood splatters near the burns, as well as crimson red droplets sprayed on the counter. The ground was littered with broken plates and glasses, as if they had been thrown as weapons. The drawers were less interesting; everything seemed to be as expected of a tavern, with a recommendation letter from the mayor.

However, one thing stood out: there was no entrance point. The window was perfectly shut and the snow behind it undisturbed, there was no door, and the walls were intact except for the damage from the short albeit violent fight.

As Johanes searched for a hidden entrance, he'd stumble across a wooden floorboard that protruded from the floor. Every other floorboard had been laid out in a straight line, but this one overlapped with the board on the right. And as he pressed his foot down again, the wood creaked and shifted; it was loose.

While Johanes discovered a suspicious loose plank that seemed to be able to move, Zessel observed something else. An army of small ants marched into the kitchen, aiming directly for the plank Johanes was standing on. But that wasn't the worst. No. They held something. Something... crumbly? Wait. No. Was that frosting?!

(Option: Roll a 1d20 for strength to pull the wooden board and reveal what's beneath.)

Macote shivered in the cold wind as it bit through his slippers. He had scarcely felt a winter like this, on Coruscant. The carefully controlled environment there had always kept him warm. So, when the spirit or entity or whatever chased lured them to their cave, he took it as an opportunity to get away from the chilliness. Macote marched along the winter path, falling into step with his fellow Jedi momentarily. Shaw and Heidi were both younger than him - even though he was still a Padawan, he felt a duty to keep these younglings safe and sound. The actual knight in their group had abandoned them to berate the child's mother.

"Remember our training, you two. We're Jedi. This is what we do. This is what we must do. No turning back. We have to save his son." Jedi weren't fond of speaking in absolutes, sure, but Macote was still figuring everything out. He thought again to his family - Kage Warriors - fighting valiantly against the abominations to ensure him time to escape. Perhaps, this time, he could pass the blessing on to another. If he died, then he would just join his parents in the next life - something he longed for, anyways. He imagined their faces, as they had been on Coruscant, smiling. He imagined them proud.

"I'm all out of creative ideas, unfortunately." His 'creative' ideas so far today had been 'stab thing with sword' and 'bait thing with sword.' "She knows we're coming." The idea felt more and more like a deathtrap, but Macote would die swinging if so. "It changes nothing. We stand."

Macote walks towards the cave & speaks to Heidi and Shaw.

For a moment or two Shaw wasn't sure if it was Macote that had conjured the snow and made it dance and swirl ominously around him like a final boss in a video game or if it had been by natural means. Until he noticed the padawan shivering from the bitter cold and harsh wind and a biting, unsettling voice spoke to them out of the darkness. It made Shaw shiver too, and it took him a few seconds to gather the courage to step out of the tree line and rejoin Macote.

This witch liked playing games with them! Mind games! Suddenly feeling a little defeated as adrenaline faded, Shaw trudged through the snow. Up the pathway cut into the side of the mountain that would lead them to the entrance to a cave. The cold was beginning to get to him, and that eerie voice played at his nerves.

"We're Jedi" should've been a rallying speech, but Shaw didn't feel much like a Jedi. He still wasn't even sure that he wanted to be a Jedi. But Macote was right. They had to save Lio's son. "She knows we're coming. It changes nothing. We stand." Now that was a rallying speech! Macote really knew how to say stuff. Shaw felt like the older padawan should've been atop a white horse with a shining longsword in hand, ready to charge into battle and cut off the witch's head rather than tramping through the snow in sopping wet slippers. But even in slippers Macote struck a courageous firgure to Shaw.

"Right," Shaw nodded along as they drew closer to the cave entrance. He cleared his throat and brushed some snow off his right shoulder, casting his best valiant look at the Knight Heidi and Macote. "Wait here. I shall scout ahead." That sounded like something a soldier would say, right? Oh yeah. 100%. Marching ahead of the others with good intentions but not much forethought, Shaw stuck his head inside the entrance of the cave to look around. @LilyNion @Fine Dining Set

Keeping up with the woman was a struggle. The snow was deep, and Alhazred's legs were short. Still, he plowed on through, not wanting to be left behind.

"Ma'am!" Alhazred spoke up, not wanting to miss an opprotunity to get more information. "Who is this master? When did all this begin?

Somewhere during the walk, Alhazred had made the connection between the people's problems of having customers and the current situation they were in. But if such a problem existed, why hadn't they contacted the Jedi sooner? True, the Jedi had been busy with their own problems, but Shili was a Jedi aligned planet. Was the influence of the Jedi so diminished that even their own doubted the aid they could provide?

Alhazred paused as several small vermin began to dart under his legs. Not wanting to accidentally step on them, Alhazred had to wait a moment. This place...this forest... something was off. Something in the back of his head was screaming that something was off, but he couldn't tell what it was yet. These animals...why were they getting so close? And that smell... It was almost as rich and warming as the roast back at the inn.

"This sanctum of tranquility..." Alhazred mutterred to himself. "It is not right. But why?"

Dice Roll: 1

Then again...perhaps it was nothing, Alhazred mused to himself. After all, this planet was under Jedi control, and perhaps their influence in the Force had made the world closer to a paradise. Yes...perhaps everything was fine after all.

As A'kari followed Roza with Alhazred, the wetness of the snow dampening her leadthered boots as the trio treaded through the midnight hour, she couldn't help but still feel the uneased edge pressing against her mind. There were simply too many unknown variables, and Roza was the largest of the off-puts. Putting up the hood of her whitened fur robes, the fabric laying around and held in place by her antlered head, they would continue heading west outside of town and into the dense forest that laid ahead.

The forest was poetically peaceful, albeit hardened by the cold of Shili's winter, but all the same, it was rather inviting. Even the smell of the pine forest tantalized their sense of smell and even the animals of the forest seemed to hardly notice them at all, something A'kari found both disturbing and beautiful. Halting for a moment to take in the entirety of the scenery, she noticed Roza and Alhazred had stopped as well.

A sudden chill ran up and down her furred spine, sending her skin into a heightened awareness akin to one's urge to warm its self and yet could not shake the cold. Her gaze shifted about briefly before she and Alhazred continued following Roza to where the footprint was discovered. A'kari's gaze would first shift to Alhazred as she knelt down and ran her fingers along the edge of the print and feeling for warmth should it prove fresh, before turning to Roza after the Zabrak finished her words.

"Then there is no time to lose." She spoke, partially in haste to find the beast and the truth behind it, but also in caution as she had yet to believe this woman or her story. The entirety of it all just felt off, similar to a B-Rated Horror-Holo. Roza was too concerned now where she had been oblivious before, akin to putting on a show after A'kari had questioned her resolve. And their surroundings felt false, something akin to an illusion of the mind where all five senses seemed to speak utopian. Standing, A'kari stepped to the forefront and began tracking the prints in the snow. "I'll take the lead. Alhazred, you guard our rear."

Continuing forward, A'kari senses would grow even more confused. The animals, they were almost too oblivious to their presence, coming as close as one could touch in passing. And the smell, it felt harnessed and focused like a concentration of an air refresher. But the most puzzling was the haze of the falling snow growing thicker similar to that of a blizzard despite any wind. It was too pristine. Once again, A'kari would open herself to the Force and let her mind wander upon its current, divining falsehood from reality as she brought her stave to her forefront.

- Tavernkeep Lio -

Heidi chewed her lower lip as she stared at the older Padawan(@Fine Dining Set), giving them a speech about how this was the Jedi's job. How they had to push through. Despite being shaken to the core and struggling to keep her focus, she felt motivated. Because Macote was right. Whatever happened, they had to persevere and find the child, or at least put an end to the evil. So, once Macote was finished, Heidi nodded firmly, her ears wiggling with the movement.

Lio also seemed to be encouraged by the Padawans' behavior. If those much younger than him dared to push through to help him, he could do the same. He would not let those kids down; instead, he would show his true character and help them in any way he could. And so he followed the Padawans up the mountain, not quite leading because Macote had clearly taken the lead, but also not trailing. He'd be there as an equal, despite lacking Force and having no idea what danger he was in.

When they reached the cave's entrance, the group fell silent. Macote had looked around as he climbed the mountain and approached the cave entrance, but nothing out of the ordinary—outside of the usual—had struck him. There were a few more dead birds as they got closer, and nature was suffering with little life left. Shaw(@throwitintothefire), who decided to scout ahead, had better luck; as soon as he stepped into the cave's entrance—after Lio told him "Be careful son,"—he noticed straight away that everything was wrong.

The walls were covered in ice and snow, with a clear path in the center and skulls and bones from various animals scattered around it. That path led to a red-lit chamber with a silhouette in the center. Whoever was standing there had their back to the entrance, intent on whatever lay ahead of them. But, while their back was turned to Shaw, the Force lashed out. It curled violently toward Shaw's mind, attempting to pierce it and fill it with pure Darkness, bringing him to his knees.

(Macote and Heidi are capable of helping if they notice something wrong; 1d20 to figure out something is wrong, followed by another 1d20 to help. A 10+ is a success for both rolls. Meanwhile, Shaw roll 1d20 to resist, 14+ is a success. If Heidi or Macote successfully help out, Shaw gains an advantage on his resist roll, which means you can roll twice and use the highest score.)
_______________

- Tavernkeep Roza -

Roza almost literally bit her tongue when A'kari(@Mythos) said she'd take the lead. Ah well. If she wanted to play as the meatshield then that served her well. Zessel(@LouJoVi) had joined the group only a minute after they had left, and he was hit by the same sensations as the others. The sense of perfection; everything was exactly as it should be.

In fact. Was there any danger? Sure, they were following these footprints, but /really/, any beast could have left those? And that sweet scent, as if emanating from a candle... The soothing sound of the snow falling ontop of the forest floor. Why not just stay there and enjoy the forest? Perhaps start a fire for the night and enjoy the sky above, because those who look up would be greeted by a colorful aurora dancing across the sky above the treetops.

Even Roza's footsteps slowed, and she lifted her gaze away from the footprints they were following to admire the forest. Her gaze softened, and her grip on the fork was no longer as firm. When she noticed a bird flying in front of her eyes and darting away to a tree, her lips curled into the smallest smile.

It was as if a warm blanket was wrapped around Roza, Alhazred(@Narzen) and Zessel. Truly, why should they keep moving? There was no danger. There was no danger. There was no danger.

A'kari felt the warm blanket, but before it could wrap around her, her Force opened her mind. And, whether it was her stronger connection to nature or her Force reaching out just in time, something tugged at the back of her mind. It was a scream of danger in the Force, attempting to grab her and pull her out of whatever state she was about to fall into.

It was hard; every inch of her body resisted the pull; all she wanted to do was stop moving and stare at the animals that ran happily around her feet. However, her Force continued to guide her mind, allowing her to hear something the others did not hear. A growl. And not just one, no. There were several growls, each coming from a different direction but all centered on her. And yet, she saw nothing ahead of her that justified those growls.

(Alhazred, A'kari and Zessel roll a 1d20 to attempt to return to reality. Anything over 10+ allows them to hear the growls, recognize they are in a trance and try to find a way to resist. If a 19 or 20 brings them back to reality straight away, DM me. A'kari has an advantage meaning you can roll twice and use the highest score.)

A'kari felt the sense of danger reverberate within the Force, causing the young lass to advert her gaze from the treeline to her front, a guttural growl merely a whisper before others seemed to join in within a horrific and malicious harmony. But her mind was hazed, fogged with the urge to make camp and her eyes blind to what laid beyond. She could not tell why she felt both uneased and tranquil at the same time, nor could she even present a logical reason behind it. Only that her mind sensed one thing and her body sensed another.

A'kari stopped at her lead, her gaze shifting to the others and noticing they had done the same, and in the moment, she had utterly forgotten what their purpose here and who they were. Jedi, at least two of them, their presence in the Force that flowed through them, and an unease at the third for unknown causes. But even then, she found herself perplexed why she was even with them, outside, in the cold and dampening air that invited them for respite.

Placing a hand upon her face, she questioned everything. Why? How? What? Who? When? All questions that pertained to those singular worded definitions flowed across her confused mind as she evaluated the situation at hand. She would sheath the stave and dart ahead, unclipping the twin sabers from her belt and letting their turquoise colour illuminate the dense forest around them. The growls... Did one of the others make them? Perhaps the squid looking alien(@Alhazred), as she could not grasp his familiarity despite the light that flowed from his form.

No. There was unseen Darkness that had pressed upon her mind and it didn't come from any of them. She could feel its presence upon the precipice of her mind, malicious intent. But she could not see. With a calming breath, A'kari deepened her connection to the Force and let her mind wander upon its currents in all directions, a taxing endeavor, but one she hoped would reveal where the Darkness laid ahead. And with it came came the clarity of it's light.

"Alhazred, Roza, Zessel....." She spoke telepathically to the three she stood with, although she had not yet settled on her trust with the barmaid. "Not all is as it seems. Ready yourselves and be prepared. I have a feeling the Darkside is behind this veil."

With the clarity of mind, and the knowledge of the moment returning to her mind, she would expand her prowess in the Force to combat whatever illusion she had been placed within. If push came to shove, she still had one ace up her sleeve. But it would take every ounce of energy she had left to give as she undertook to battling with the illusion.

By searching for the Darkness she felt, she was able to clear her mind of the illusionist pull. And in noticing the illusion, she focused her energy in the Force to counteract it.

This was nice. True, they were on a hunt for some kind of 'master' and there was the hint of something wrong going on, but this place was a place of paradise. Or close to paradise. The snow was magical, the animals were wonderful, the stars were aligned in the most beautiful ways. Alhazred sighed to himself. This planet was a perfect choice for such a wonderful event to partake in...

Roll: 9

Alhazred heard something from Akar'i. Her voice resonated in her mind. He made a confused look.

Are you certain? Alhazred responded telepathically himself, fully given into the trance. I have encountered illusions before. The Nightmare demons on Ektra for instance. Those things were truly nasty illusionists. But this? This is no illusion. Its simply the Force, in a perfect song. No darkness could conjure something so lovely as this. Perhaps...we should stop? After all, my legs are growing tired, and the stars above seem to preach rest for us, and you are sensing ghosts where there are none?

Macote shivered while he waited to hear Shaw's report. He was tempted to just use his lightsaber as a torch, keep them all nice and warm. "I don't know how you do these winters, Lio..." Macote shivered, reaching into his robes to produce his piccolo once again. He figured the breath work required to play it would keep him warm, even if it meant exposing his fingers to the biting wind.

The sound carried from the mountain, down the slope, to the valley below. A hopeful, spritely sound that echoed the fiery excitement that burned in Macote's belly. He was completely unaware of Shaw's struggles within the cavern.

Before Shaw could call out to his companions to tell them about the dark silhouette at the other end of the cave pondering its orb or whatever is it big baddies do in their super secret lairs, something weird happened. Something he had never felt, never experienced before. It didn't feel unlike that sensation he had experienced back in the tavern, something unseen being forced upon him without his consent, but this was far more controlling. Far more powerful. It didn't make him feel like a superhero. It felt more like the after effects of being curb stomped by a supervillain.

The teenager collapsed to his knees in the snow, and his hands shot to his head. Clutching at the pain that spread outward from his skull. He felt like he was losing his mind. Not going crazy, just... losing it. Memories and faces felt far away. His companions and surroundings felt nonexistent. Even his own voice inside his head felt lost to him, like it was being shoved into a corner or held down. He couldn't think clearly, couldn't process words much less make any sound to alert the others around him.

Eyes squeezed shut, he tried to take a few deep breaths. Even that felt hard to do. Thoughts were blurry. Surroundings fuzzy. Something was gradually eating away at his mind, and he was helpless to stop it. He was immobilized. Helpless. At the whims of the being that had taken hold of his mind to fill it with darkness. @LilyNion @Fine Dining Set

While he followed the group Zessel started to feel uncomfortable, but he couldn’t exactly tell what it was. The atmosphere around them was unnerving, giving him vibes of a soothing voice. However, it wasn’t in a good way. Even if his fourteen years old and hyperactive mind struggled with the concept, the Padawan believed that a word that suited said voice was seductive.

It seemed to be luring them, seeking to show that the place around them was safe. Luring them. Wanting them to think that everything was alright, but in reality it wanted lowered guards before striking. For him, this evil allure was like…like a situation that he already lived through, but couldn’t remember the details. The white-haired boy started to fidget due to nervousness, while the Force was screaming for Zessel to see beyond this illusion of safety.

Embracing this warning, Zessel turned to A’kari and Alhazred. “There is something bad happening there, I can feel it.” even with the cold, the white-haired boy could feel the cold sweet covering his palms, hidden by his gloves. A sudden sound made the Padawan look around. “Did you hear that? It seems like a growl!

- Tavernkeep Lio -

Slowly, the figure in the cave turned around. What should have been eyes, but were actually two holes in the void, lingered from far away at the Padawan (@throwitintothefire). As Shaw fell to his knees on the floor, the snowflakes shot into the air, circling him before landing on his lap, shoulders, and hands. "Hmmm." An amused voice echoed throughout the cavern. "You aren't who I expected." A voice as smooth as silk echoed throughout the cavern.

With a hum, the woman began to approach Shaw. It was difficult to tell whether she was floating or walking; everything seemed and felt unnatural. As she got closer to the Padawan, the air around him became colder. His cheeks and forehead began to tingle as if a thousand tiny nails attempted to pierce his skin and pluck what lay beneath; his life energy. She eventually came to a stop, half a mile away from the boy. "One of the youngest of the group... hmmm," the woman mused, her eyes as dark as night on him. "But powerful... With so much life and fight left in you. Yes. My child, you'll be perfect for the next one. I believe they would like a new brother as brave as you."

Heidi, blissfully unaware of what was going on inside the cavern, looked around. She pouted and her fingers tapped her thighs. She wasn't the most patient person in the galaxy, much to the chagrin of some of her Jedi peers. Lio himself also seemed impatient and uneasy about waiting so long while a boy risked his life for him on his own. His gaze shifted to Macote, who mentioned the cold. "You grow used to it. But if you want to know a secret." He shifted the rim of his shirt to the side, revealing a thick wool top beneath. "Wool is an excellent insulator. Keeps the heat nicely trapped on days when you aren't used to it." Despite his nervousness, he managed to give an almost fatherly laugh.

"Soooo..." Heidi shifted back and forth on her heels for a moment. "Macote(@Fine Dining Set), right? You were super cool back in the tavern." She gave him a smile. "Have you been a Jedi for long? I joined... around two years ago." It felt strange to make casual small talk, but... she was so nervous, anything to break the silence. But, as they talked, something else broke the silence, this time it was the silence deep within the cavern. A voice. Heidi's sensitive ears perked up, their tips pointing toward the sky. "Wait... I hear someone in there. Can you hear that? A woman? Huh?" She returned her gaze to Macote, an older Padawan. She didn't say it aloud, but she didn't know what to do and prayed that he did because she didn't trust Lio to guide them, and she was about to panic.

- Tavernkeep Roza -

The sense of comfort and perfection continued to wash over the group; Alhazared(@Narzen) and Roza had begun to slip away. Reality no longer seemed like an acceptable possibility to them; no matter how many growls hit their ears, all they could hear were the cheerful ooh-ooh's of the owls above.

But A'kari(@Mythos) and Zessel(@LouJoVi) began to resist; their Force continued to swirl around their minds, warning them, heeding them of dangers. A'kari was the first to snap her gaze away and back into reality; the sky suddenly looked lackluster, the wind and snow harsh against her skin and dancing robes, and nature, as beautiful as it was, dull and ordinary. With each new blink, she saw more of what she expected. Animals began to avoid her; the hooting ceased, and silence filled the air.

Zessel's clarity followed not long after. He, too, noticed a shift as the Force gently guided him back to what was, rather than what they wished it to be. Everything became less vibrant, and the scents were no longer as strong. Life had started to return to normal.

Normal. If everything was normal, why were they still hearing growls? If Zessel and A'kari followed the source of the sounds, keeping their gaze on the path, they would notice how the trees had begun to separate. The farther they looked, the fewer trees they saw. No. Ahead of them was a clearing free of trees, rocks, and other forest-related debris. And in that openness were three beasts, one identical to the one at the inn and two smaller, undoubtedly cub-like creatures tracing the entrance. The illusions led them to a nest. All three beasts, or no, monsters, were staring at them with their countless eyes, growling, hissing, and drooling. All three are ready to pounce on the Jedi. All while Roza and Alhazred were in a daze.

And behind the monsters, a smaller voice rang out. "Help me!"

(@Narzen roll again to break free, a 14+ is a success! Rest of the group, if you launch an attack, roll for the attack, I'll determine the outcome next post!)

Why did Shaw get the feeling that he had walked directly into a boss fight without bothering to save the game first or stock up on health potions and good weapons? Probably because that was pretty much exactly what he had done. Never mind the good weapons. He didn't have any weapons. He had charged in head first imagining he could handle whatever lie ahead without leveling up. Rookie mistakes. Rookie mistakes.

But that was exactly what Shaw was. A rookie. Sixteen and dumb and reckless and brand new to the Jedi Order with no experience under his belt. He had never even used the force before, not really, and now it was worming its way through his head as a cold hand snaked its way around his wrist and tugged.

A woman hovered over him. At least he thought it was a woman. It looked like a woman from what he could glimpse between squeezed eyes. A pale face in a gown of pure darkness. It sounded like a woman. A cold that surpassed the flakes that fell on him and the snow gathered around his knees seeped through his clothing and pierced his skin. His shivered, and he nearly collapsed from the pain that raked against his skin but for the hand tugging him along, dragging his defenseless body into the cave.

He tried to call out to his friends for help, but he couldn't force himself to speak. He was in too much pain. His thoughts too disorganized. His mind too dark. His mind not his own and his voice farther away than ever. @LilyNion @Fine Dining Set

The white haired youth now was also speaking that something was wrong. Again, Alhazred furrowed his brow. He was starting to get a little annoyed at his comrades. They were in a veritable paradise, were they not? Why did there have to be something wrong with paradise?

"I believe you are hearing things young man" Alhazred commented. "Jumping at shadows no doubt. Relax my friend. There is nothing to worry about. We will simply continue until we find what we are looking for. If you are truly scared, look at the stars. They show good signs tonight. "

Alhazred smiled as he took part in his own advice and looked up at the sky. Perhaps he could spot a star constellation from here. The sign of the weeping grazer, or the the Dead God's maw, or even...

Roll: 13

"Yes!" Alhazred exclaimed, pointing out a pattern in the stars. "Even there, the sign of the peaceful bantha can be seen! A sign of good times! Everything is well my young friend!"

But everything wasn't fine. Even as Alhazred looked up at the stars, a nagging feeling returned to his mind. The sign of the Bantha was very unusual. Shouldn't it have been the sign of the Mynock? No no, he was mistaken. Or was he?
