Patrolling the Coronet Streets

"All units be advised, we have a call in for a possible 10-31 on Empress Drive, Request for an officer to show up on scene and establish witnesses, detectives are en-route." A static voice hissed through the comm's of the police cruiser.

A 10-31D, also known as an abduction. They were pretty common throughout the galaxy, but for a kirff of a street as Empress drive it seemed all the likely. Bums and squatters dotted across the vacant lots and streets. Trafficking was high around those parts and the Imperial Policing units hardly patrolled the streets there. Caran wasn't a fool, nobody would take this call unless they were assigned to it.

Yet, something drew him to the call, maybe he was anxious about his upcoming meeting with those higher up within the Empire or maybe he felt bad. The police officer couldn't really tell why he did it, but he responded to the call. "Unit 26 here, en route to Empress drive, over."

"10-4 Unit 26, stand by for call details." The voice of the dispatcher hissed through the cockpit, as Caran flashed his lights and sirens of his landspeeder--his engine throttling as he picked up the pace.

"Unit 26, this is Dispatch. We received a call about an altercation on Empress drive between a man and woman, possible ADW situation. The caller thought it could be a possible domestic violence situation, stand bye." The voice hissed.

Caran's landspeeder drifted between lanes as he dodged the various traffic that dotted the streets. His eyes were locked in as his hands gripped the wheel tightly, he was only a few blocks away from the scene. His eyes would shift towards the holocom as the dispatch's voice came back.

"The caller stated that the man had taken the woman away on a speeder, but he couldn't really make out a description on the suspect. Arrive to the scene and mark it off--see what you can find."

"10-4," Caran responded as pulled up onto to Empress Drive. His crisp blue eyes narrowed as his hand flicked off the siren--leaving his flashing blue and red lights. He would pull up to the scene, craning his head as he talked into the com on his chest, "Dispatch, this is Unit 26, I've arrived on location--going in to take a look." The officer readied his flashlight and began to walk in towards the scene of the crime--who knew what was waiting for him.

“Aaaaa~s I landed on Corellia, I met my de~ar Lobelia, but she said I’ll be~e seein’ ya, ‘cause you had to act’a fo~ol!” The human was unshaven and swayed on the spot as he sat on the low wall. He didn’t have any beer on him and what a damn shame that was to Leni. His whole life revolved around the stuff.

“I like beer, okay! I like beer!” he proclaimed to no one in particular, because no one was around to hear it. He shifted his legs in place as he hiccuped, knocking over several cans covered in brown wrappings, spilling the dregs of their contents, no doubt low-grade alcohol and backwash making a foul brew that seemed to be the summation of his pitiful, useless existence.

Damn, but Leni wished he had drank that beer that was now dripping languidly from the cans onto the ground.

“Skaaa~aahti!” he cried out suddenly, trying to get into verbal contact with his “friend,” who’d he sell out for a few hundred credits and who he had no doubt would do the exact same to him if given the chance. “Where you at, man?” Leni had been waiting, eyes bloodshot and hygiene ill-kep, two factors that made him permanently look like he was hungover. Hell, he probably would be if he stopped drinking. He had long, brown lanky hair and wore a crooked, dirty pair of spectacles on his nose as he waited for Skahti to get back with the latest haul of ice-cold beers.

Leni caught sight of the darker skinned fellow walking back when a flashlight illuminated them, causing Leni to raise a hand to his face.

“Ay, what the hell’s wrong with you?” the miserable wretch grumbled as he raised his hands to precariously cover his eyes.

Dealing with Drunkards

"Put your hands up in the air," Caran responded in a sharp tone, as his hand leaned against his holster, "I'm not here to hurt you, to be honest I didn't expect to see you here." He would pause as his eyes shifted around for a moment, "Place your hands on the back of your head and walk out into the street light," he would respond as he backed up onto the sidewalk.

The man looked like a complete mess and had to be a spice addict of some sort. If anything the man looked unpredictable, and unpredictable was the worst type of person to deal with. He would lower his flashlight and clip it to his side--though his right hand rested on his holster. "Officer Caran Malo, Imperial Police Bureau. You're not under arrest, nor being charged with a crime. I'm responding to a missing person's call, there was an assault with a deadly weapon--the victim and the suspect took off in a speeder." He would respond dryly, "Did you see or report anything suspicious in this area?" Caran waited to see what the drunk would have to say.

Skahti put his hands straight up, wanting no trouble with any cops. His skin tone tended to have people from the Core think he was part-alien to begin with and so compliance was second nature to him. Leni, however, was miles beyond as drunk as Skahti was and he wasn’t about to take the command of some flashlight-wielding fool lying down.

“Get that light out my damn face,” he said well after the cop had clipped his flashlight to his belt, still dazzled from the sudden illumination. “I ain’t done a damn thing I ain’t proud of, you hear me?” Leni lurched to his feet, looking wild-eyed at the officer of the law who was threatening his good time. Leni hiccuped mightily, causing him to stumble forward towards Caran, rocking like an unsecured tower on an ecumenopolis world in the high winds that would have been broken by mountains had they not been leveled.

“I can’t see anything!” Leni babbled on, on a roll and unable to be easily stopped. “I’m legally blind in both of my ears! I got bronchitis! I like beer, ok?”

“Leni, shut the kark up, fool!” Skahti was at least more sober. “Officer, we just-”

Leni cut him off.

“Oh, come off it Skahti, this guy’s jus’ on a power trip wan’in to ‘ararass us.” Leni’s temper was getting out of control now, which meant it was only a matter of time until he did something immensely foolish.

I have an Idea

Caran glanced towards the drunk man, his hand resting on his holster as his other hand was raised in the air. "Like I said, you're not under arrest. I am just doing a welfare check." He sighed as his eyes squinted, this could get ugly. The man had to be on something, he was talking out of his mind and appeared to be unhinged--if the officer didn't play things safe, he could be in danger.

Though things would take an interesting turn when the man's friend arrived behind him. The other bum attempted to cool the situation, but it seemed to make things worse. Caran sighed as he raised his hand off his holster, "You like beer huh?" He would smirk, "I can get you both quite a bit of beer, if you help do your part as a loyal Imperial Citizen," he responded in a dry tone.

"I'll buy you 5 cases of thirty-racks, if you can tell me what happened around here--did you see anything?"

"What?!" the ornery drunk exclaimed -- and then continued to exclaim. "What?! What?! What?!" Leni took a few steps towards the officer, his eyes wide and wild. "Didn't you hear me? I said I'm legally deaf in both of my eyeballs!" The man crumpled into a heap as he took another step, and Skahti dropped his satchel to run to his compatriot, his prudence evident as he began to haul up his disheveled friend with a mixture of concern and bitterness, Skahti's own healthy buzz quickly being eliminated

"Listen officer, my friend is a disabled veteran, can't find any work and is hooked on the sauce." Skahti spoke calmly as he helped Leni to his feet again.

"Disabled schmisabled!" Leni objected, his belligerence apparent at Skahti's revelation. "I'm perfec'ly fine how I am, man!"

"Sure bud," Skahti said coolly, "and I'm Emperor Elix." Skahti turned his attention to the officer. "Sir, I've been gone for about half an hour on a run," he said, gesturing back to the sack of bottles. "But Leni might'a seen something." Skahti nudged Leni, who blearily looked at the cop.

"Heard...humming, I did," he said, blinking droopily at his questioner.

Legally Deaf in both of my eyeballs...deaf..eyeballs..wait a minute...does he mean's blind...heh...stupid bloke almost threw me for a tautaun loop I'll admit that. The man chuckled to himself, his blue eyes watched as the bum ran towards the other man. well maybe he's not blind...kriff. He would pause for a moment, considering his options. "You heard humming?"

The officer held out his hand, which held a few credit chits towards Leni. "Could you tell me more about it? I know you're..legally blind in both eyes, but any information could help," he would respond as he motioned towards his wallet.
If he'll provide me with some more information, we could possibly figure this out..find out where that girl went and who the suspect is. Hopefully this man would continue to cooperate, otherwise it would most likely be a long night, without a lot of answers.
