Of all the things that Max didn't like about the situation that was unfolding in the Galaxy with the Sith, he would have to say that one thing that really irked him was how it seemed to takeover. How it became the single biggest issue facing the Galaxy (which it arguably was) and that meant it was the main focus to the detriment of all other issues. Some issues were basically non-issues - First Galaxy Problems etc - but some of them needed their own spotlight and a focus on them that did not waiver because something else had cropped up.

The slavery of Wookiees was something that had been ongoing for centuries. Slavery was illegal since the days of the old republic but it had hardly stemmed the tide of Wookiees finding themselves in bondage. Sometimes it was dressed up as indentured servitude and sometimes it was simply a hunting party of the Wookiees' Trandoshan enemies selling some of their captured foes on. It came as a consequence of a successful Trandoshan hunt and it could be argued that it was better than the Wookiee captives being skinned alive.

Sometimes it was worse however.

Sometimes people were out to advance themselves for profit alone and they didn't care how they received that profit. Hidden on an island on Kashyyyk, Max could see one such example of this naked, destructive, greed set out before him. A slaver's encampment, clearly illegal and clearly being run by some organized pirates. Nestled atop one of the large, sturdy, branches of one of the local trees, Max watched for activity as his latest ally arrived.

He had called back to the Temple to keep them appraised of his investigation on Kashyyyk and for this particular part of his mission they had not failed to see the potential risk and had dispatched a second knight to aid him rather than a padawan.

Indyana was not too keen on visiting jungles. She didn't mind wildernesses, but sometimes, she was reminded of the many dangers that lurked... and though she was by nature more a pacifist, she always packed visible heat to deter those less savory in the galaxy. And her lightsaber, as well, though that too wasn't something she was keen to use...

No longer was the luxury of time to be used in strictly hunting artifacts; part of her role as a Knight was to attend with fellow Knights in their own missions assisting the galaxy, and as always she answered the call.

But more than perhaps most others, she loathed lizards. In particular Trandoshans.

She had been pinged of Jedi Knight Max's approximate coordinates; landing some distance away and trekking there wasn't the problem. The problem was the feeling of rot, of decay on this planet... of blatant abuse and neglect that filled the air. Even one less sensitive to the Force could feel it, and she gritted her teeth.

She despised slavers almost on par with her almost phobia of Trandos.

Squirreling her way up the tree wasn't the hard part either; like many on Kashyyyk, these trees were in several layers, and scrabbling from branch to rain-slicked branch was almost no different to the ice on Pantora.

Her voice was low, and though she was quite stealthy on approach, she was certain the Knight was at least adept enough to detect her signature. She had seen him in the temple before, but never had been personable. Really, there was no point if most of your time was kept off-planet.

"I'd say it's a pleasure to meet you at last, but considering the circumstances, I'd say not so much." Her wry humor peaked to the fore, but it wasn't met with a smile. Instead she huddled on a branch nearby within earshot, golden eyes peering through the dark, dressed in the dark earth tones of her kin in a synthleather jacket, pants, blaster vest and hood. In her hands were a pair of binoculars. "So what'd I miss?"

Waiting for Indy meant that Max had plenty of time to recon the front gate of the pirate compound. It was usually the way that the gate was the heaviest guarded place to a compound and it was, usually, a bad idea to come in through the front door. In his experience with outfits like this one, going through the front door was sometimes actually the best option. Quite a few times now he had gotten his way past the front line of defense to find those behind it so confident in that defense that they weren't even paying attention.

He had no way of knowing if these pirate slavers were like the others he had faced in the past but he, equally, had nothing to say they weren't. The worst case scenario of a frontal entry was that it would draw all of them into one position; all the better to smash them to pieces against their own walls.

Hopefully they would be able to enter silently and preserve an element of surprise.

"Smashing some sense into slavers and freeing Wookiees seems like good circumstances to me."
he joked back without looking away from the front gate as he eyed the five guards in charge of the defense, "You didn't miss much; we've got five guards on the front gate and... hopefully... about to diminish..."

The Force burst out from Max not in a flashy way but rather in the form of an illusion. Making a vaguely Wookiee-like shape appear at the treeline, he watched as three of the guards spotted it and started shouting about a Wookiee-tribe scout. The other two hadn't seen anything but had no reason to doubt their fellows.

Three guards raced into the jungle, leaving the gate guarded by only two men.

"Well would you look at that; seems they saw something shiny in the trees."

She chuckled at his last comment, slanting a look his way. "Can't be the only shiny thing they see..." she replied, her lips pulling into a slight smile. She wasn't exactly stuffy... but seeing those lizards slither off into the dark dangers of Kashyyyk didn't make her feel a lick of remorse.

The other two needed a distraction as well...

And she did just that. A shape that darted into the dark... and one guard followed. The other, however, paused just before entering the woods... and gave a long, slow whiff. She could see his ugly, scaly face turning around slowly, examining the trees... before rasping something in his comms, and loping off after his companions.

Seems like they were running on borrowed time.
"Time to play hero then," she muttered, mostly to herself, but also partially to her companion. She knew most in the Order were about a grave nobleness about them, sage-like and wise.

She preferred a hands-on approach, and wasn't going to wait and see if her companion had a similar philosophy. She tucked the binoculars away, and withdrew her blaster, beginning the long climb down, slightly assisted by the Force by controlling her fall. She wasn't the type to sit and wait, and now was better than never. Especially if no alarm had been rung out... yet.

It seemed that Indy's attempt at distracting them was successful but not as good at it perhaps could have been. One of the guards was naturally more suspicious and seemed to be lingering around. Max could tell by the way the enemy had sniffed that it was likely the smell that was giving it some indication that something was wrong.

Humming slightly, Max took a deep breath and held his lightsaber in his right hand. He didn't ignite it, merely holding it at the ready as he gathered the Force to himself and leaped forwards. Flying through the air silently, almost gracefully, Max landed with a small roll ahead of the main gate itself.

Using the Force, he could feel that the suspicious guard was still searching the underbrush with those who were more convinced than he was. Reaching out, he touched the sentient's mind, muddling it a little bit with a mind trick that would loosen the hold the suspicions had on his mind until Max and Indy were able to reach the main gate.

Seeing as the gate was guarded, it wasn't locked in a very complicated way. Slipping through the door with his ally, Max held up a hand for Indy to pause behind some crates with him as they took in the sights of the main area of the camp. It was mostly open, with a pre-fab building off to one side, a cave nearby it and open cattle pens filled with captive wookiees wearing slave collars. Confident in the technology aiding them, there were only three guards in the main area.

"Only three in this area but there'll be more nearby - we need to take them out quietly and grab the controls for the slave collars. With the controls we can save the wookiees... and they'll likely tear the lizards apart with their bare hands if we give them half a chance."

She slanted a look his way; this wasn't his first take-down, and she had to wonder just what her fellow Jedi had witnessed before in the name of slavery. Unfortunately, Indy was all too aware of just how little the galaxy truly cared about its' citizens. There was no unifying banner to protect those unable to protect themselves, and Wookie slaves were unfortunately not nearly as uncommon as most would have blindly liked to believe. She crouched low beside him, and lowered her blaster.

Time to test out something she had been aching to try since she was trained enough to understand how the Force could influence.

She breathed in and out, focused... and extended that focus outwards, towards the three guards. Each one a focus of life, bright in her mind's eye... and each of them vulnerable in their smug confidence. With an outward focus of her will, only one command was given.

Sleep.

At first, they resisted. One shuffled, another blinked and yawned. Another focused nudge, and two collapsed, the third rasping out some sort of a dulled, panicked protest before they, too, fell into a heap. Sweat beaded on her brow, and her nose dripped. When she wiped it away, she realized it was blood... and gave her fellow Knight a bemused smile, blinking back to alertness herself.

"Let's get those controls, then," she quietly replied, and hefted up her blaster once more.

Well getting the guards to go to sleep was a good sign for them because it meant no one else seemed to be interested in coming out from either the cave or the buildings within the compound. Which meant that getting the enslaved natives out of their captivity should be a snap right?

Moving forwards to the open-air pens, Max felt his heart almost break all over again at the sight before him. For some reason, the slavers had been needlessly cruel and brutal in their treatment of the Wookiees, to the point where several dozen of the Wookiees were actually dead just from the abuse itself.

The urge to kill the sleeping slavers rose with a tidal wave of anger but Max was able to release it slowly into the Force instead with a simple mantra; there was work to be done.

Rummaging around in the pockets of one of the guards, he grinned slightly as he grabbed hold of the control unit. Raising it, he pressed the release button and all of the slave collars immediately disengaged. Seven wookiees were alive and aware enough to move to the exits of the pens as their collars fell away. Those who had not survived couldn't know it but their bodies would be able to be returned to their tribes without the marks of slavery marring them.

Max took a deep breath.

"Alright, let's see if we can't get the slavers from the building to come out to us."
he suggested to Indy as the Wookiees armed themselves with weapons from the slavers, "Let's jump these little shits."

A distraction, huh?

She smirked, golden eyes glinting as she lifted a hand to adjust her hood... and showing her face to her companion, giving him a playful wink.
"Leave it to me, Knight Tionson. It'd be my pleasure."

She scooted forward... and began to focus deep within her core. The answer from the light was a strong call; like at first the gentle fall of rainwater, then a steady surge, until it roiled within her blood and ached to be released. Small stones and objects began to float... and then she lashed her hands out to release it in an attack.

She hadn't expected it to be as strong as it had, however, and the effect left her blinking in surprise.

The Force Push had been aimed at one corner of the building; she simply intended to shake it, make it seem like an outward attack... but instead the Push had ripped through, sheering off the entire front wall of the small building with a hellish cacophony. Leaving their enemy exposed entirely to the mercy of seven angry, armed Wookies…

And two Jedi.

"That good enough?" she quipped, crouching low and fully prepared for a firefight.

Most of them seemed stunned from within; if this were any other situation, she'd find it hilarious, but now she definitely had their attention.

Well.

That worked.

Slightly unfortunately in fact as the Wookiees were almost as surprised by the destruction as the Trandoshans were and they recovered at about the same time. Max gripped one of the slavers with the Force and slammed them head-first into the ground, knocking them out cold with the single motion but not killing them because of the helmet they wore. One of the Wookiees fired before the Trandoshans could get the chance.

Max didn't like to see how blaster bolts effected a sentient body but there was still something satisfying about seeing the way the Trandoshan's head snapped back from the blast to the head before it slumped down.

Unfortunately the other Trandoshans were quicker on the draw and their return fire sent two of the Wookiees spinning to the ground with their own lethal wounds even as the remaining five Wookiees fled for cover that could actually, you know, cover over seven foot of fur and muscle.

Things had gone almost stupidly well with the distraction and luring of the guard, but she wasn't fast enough herself. Perhaps it was the extend of the use of the Force she used, that made her reaction time to pull back slower than usual, or the fact that some shots for the Trandoshans landed. But as she withdrew her blaster to aim and fire at one of them, a lizard managed to aim at her. Her blaster whipped out, but a bolt caught her in the shoulder, making her grunt and twist around, slamming her back into some crates.

"Ugh. I can't stand lizards," she hissed between her teeth, scowling as the heat bit through her unprotected upper arm.

That was a damn lucky shot; at least Max seemed to do better.

Let it never be said that Max was a healer.

Like, ever.

Max knew enough about healing with the Force to, sometimes, manage to keep himself from bleeding out and knew enough to get rid of blisters that developed in the jungles of Kashyyyk from all the walking. That was... about it really. But despite that he was a hard pressed to ignore his immediate instinct to try and help Indy.

Diving into cover with her, he completely ignored the remaining Trandoshans as he placed his hands over the wound and began trying to heal it with the Force. Unfortunately for him, it seemed that being an enthusiastic amateur at healing was dangerous for those being healed. Yelping in pain himself, Max pulled his hands back and recoiled slightly.

It seemed that the Force had flowed through his instinctively but rather than heal it had increased the burns caused by the blaster bolt, hence why the palms of his own hands had been lightly singed. He cursed as he instead began wrapping the wound.

"Indy it's bad."
he told her honestly, grimacing, "It's probably going to need surgery; I'm sorry."

The only bright side was that the Wookiees managed to shoot the last of the Trandoshans dead, losing only one more of their number for the 'victory' to be secured. Max sat back down backwards with a grunt.

"This turned into a right mess, I'm sorry."

She cried out when he attempted healing her, gritting her teeth and ending it with a pained grunt, letting out a pant when he let go. "No... shit..." she gasped, giving him a disbelieving golden-eyed stare. She tried taking in another breath, but suppressed a snarl when she couldn't move her fingers, instead gritting her jaw. The pain radiated up her shoulder, pulsing almost in tandem with her heart, and sweat dotted her forehead and cheeks with the radiating pain.

Emotion, yet peace. Easier said than done, she thought to herself, letting out another groaning grimace as she twisted around, then huffed out a breath. "Stop apologizing, please. I'll live. Let's just get out of here..." she grunted again, rolling over to her knees then stumbling upright. Four members left... and the five guards still about on the trail of the elusive figures they traced through the underbrush.

"Time to move on..." she mumbled, a haze of pain making it difficult to focus. But she breathed, willing the haze to settle, to center amidst the agony... and it abated just enough for her to focus on the older Knight's face, features set in a grim line. "No point in staying; we will retrieve their dead, and we'll give them a proper burial."

Placing a hand over her shoulder, she bowed to the four survivors as much as she could, before the dizziness could set over again.
"You did well; your comrades died with honor, and we will honor them as well. But first, we must leave."

No point in staying for too much longer; the encampment didn't seem so large, and she doubted there would be much of value here to linger and loiter. Hopefully her companion felt the same way.
