Time was never as inevitable as it was on two occasions. Both are on opposite ends, where life began and ended, and time came for all. The ushering in of new life was supposed to be a joyous occasion, the wards were full of such couplings sharing a new bond. One that was far greater than the one they had already established. It was one thing to promise to each other, but entirely different when you made promises to the tiny being caught in your arms whose existence lay at the crossroads of endless opportunities.

But that fairytale ending was nothing but a mirage for some expectant mothers. Whether by accident, betrayal, or the fear of the unknown, scores of babies were born to single parents who otherwise were alone.

Nevizkas groaned as the doctor made yet another series of rounds, seemingly unphased at the impressive workload they still had to achieve that morning. For the Pureblood it was agony, while she was within the healthy period where the baby could arrive, so far nobody seemed in a rush to leave their nice and comfy home. This of course meant a longer stay, and more miserable walks down to the vending machine in the cafeteria. It wouldn't have been so bad had her entire body seemed to swell like a bloody balloon, her shoes barely fit, and clothing options were completely ruined leaving her with little choice but to wear maternal outfits.

If that wasn't embarrassing enough, it felt like she was waddling like a penguin every time she made the trek. But all the embarrassment in the galaxy went out the window every time she felt the little squirt moves and kicks. She was both terrified and excited at the prospect of motherhood. What the future might hold for was never set in stone, until she could reconnect with the force and find her place, she couldn't be certain that she would be there for him. That's why she had spent considerable time during the better months preparing for his arrival, squirreling away long-term assets and future income that he could rely upon if she wasn't there to raise him.

Finding a fitting doctor to accompany them hadn't been easy. Kalique had aimed for specialized clinics on neutral worlds, simply because it added an additonal layer of safety, and they had both been picky about their selection.

This clinic they had settled on though wasn't just equipped with the newest technologies, but was known for its high security and discretion standards while high ranking doctors occupied offices there. It was her first regular check-up, but she was happy to take a look around already while she was also excited for the appointment, and so she had been more than happy about having managed to get an appointment right away that both of them could attend.

The wait was at least a few more minutes, but as they had been asked to wait at the specialist's office, she was walking down the hallway alongside her husband, fingers intertwined with his, and her emotions relatively positive. Relatively, because there was a tiny part of that internal excitement that was a little nervous as well. After all, this was all new and Kalique was used to knowing what she did and being in control of her surroundings.

They were rounding a corner and soon walking into the direction of a woman that was seemingly headed for a vending machine. "Do you want anything to drink?" she asked Jon, glancing up at him, before her gaze briefly drifted to the woman. It wasn't hard to tell that she was far along, perhaps even there already, but as Kalique's emerald eyes suddenly met hers, she stopped right in her tracks.

Was that a déjà vu? It was like as if right as they locked eyes, it wasn't the first time. Raising a brow ever so slightly, Kalique looked back to Jon so as if he could provide any answers, before her gaze flicked back over. No...this couldn't be. She was dead anyway. The thought that crossed her mind was way too absurd to voice it, even if she knew she had rarely ever met any other purebloods. Still, her muscles involuntarily tensed up. There was something familiar about her, yet something even more strange, but in this moment she had many questions.

They could have had access to any doctor in the Empire, but he understood Kali's desire to go somewhere else. Both of them enjoyed privacy, but with her being a public figure that was difficult sometimes. So the search for a doctor outside of the Empire had begun, they had eventually settled on a doctor on New Alderaan and had set up the appointment.

The last time he had been to this world, he had first met Kali's parents, it had also been the night before he had been called to the battle of Dathomir. For now, though, all of his thoughts lay with his wife as they entered the facility.

He could tell she was a little nervous, or was that him? It was hard to tell these days, Jon had become somewhat protective when he had found out the news. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of illogical concern for Kali even when she did fairly mundane tasks. She was one the most capable people in the Galaxy, and he had almost told her to be careful walking downstairs the other day.

He squeezed her hand and smiled down at her as they rounded the last corner before reaching the doctor's office. "I'm fine," he said. "Can I get you anything though?" he asked as they continued to walk.

He took two steps before realizing that she had frozen. He spun, meeting her eyes that seemed to be locked on a point passed him. Jon could see her tense slightly, feel it in his hand. He looked around, his fight-or-flight response kicking in. "Kali, is everything alright? Is it the baby?" he asked, concern in his voice as he was about to call over a nurse.

Nevi quietly cursed the developer who crafted this vending machine as it swallowed an extra credit more than she needed to give. Her eyes rolled as the slinky noise drifted back into the mechanical component, unable to draw upon the force for a refund. At the very least, the large cookie broke free of its rigid position and moved carefully down into the catchment area with a thud.

Fortunately, and most importantly, the prize was intact and the expectant mother breathed a sigh of relief. This vending machine would live to see another moon, after all.

Nevi carefully broke the wrapper and took a bite with ravenous delight, just in time to spot a couple staring her way. Now this was far from a new occurrence for the pureblood as her striking hue always drew eyes. But this time it was different, with the strangest familiarity present in those distant eyes at watched her every move.

Naturally, Nevi opted to approach wielding nought but the cookie in hand. "Can I help you?" She inquired calmly with barely a hint of annoyance.

Even if only a few moments passed, it seemed that the other woman caught her glimpse and immediately shifted her attention onto Kali. She forced herself to relax, even if her mind was still racing while she kept her presence hidden within the Force. That was impossible...maybe just the hormones playing tricks on her...but she needed to know.

"Ohh it's fine. It was just some movement I felt" the smile that crossed her lips seemed genuine, warm, reassuring even. She gently placed a hand on Jon's arm and right as she did though, he received telepathic, rushed message. 'Can you strike up a conversation with her, create a distraction, quickly, please'.

The urgency behind her words in his head would be obvious and she was hoping he wouldn't question her brief plea, yet regardless, her gaze was shifting back to the woman. 'Trust me, everything is fine' she mentally added for Jon, analyzing the woman's demeanor closely and attentively scanning for tiniest shifts in her movements.

From what she perceived, the other woman hadn't picked up the telepathic conversation, yet as Kali made her move, she was highly sensitive and careful. With a quick yet precise incision, she carefully found her way into her mind and was hoping that while Jon was keeping her distracted, she'd find what she was looking for: memories of the day on Phindra.

She wasn't going for any alteration or manipulation, but it was just a quick search for what Kalique thought had possibly happened years ago, in what felt like a completely different life. Assuming the other one wasn't expecting a mental assault, she was certain she wouldn't notice a thing, unless the other woman was as strong with the Force as she was.

He was about to ask if she was sure, but there was a slight prickle of energy as she touched his arm and spoke into his mind. His back to the approaching woman, his eyes locked with Kali's. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he trusted her and had a lifetime of training that made responding to snap orders second nature. He had so many questions, but they could wait. He trusted her completely.

A calm voice spoke behind him, causing him to turn. "Hrm?" he voiced. "Oh, I think we are alright. Maybe a bit lost," he said with a bit of a huff. "It's my fault really, I was supposed to find out exactly where we were supposed to check in, but it kind of slipped my mind," he said, shooting Kali an apologetic look.

"Do you think you could point us in the right direction?" he asked, meeting the woman's gaze.

The beautiful couple lost in a myriad of hormones, and emotions, and the navigation of the unknown was an interesting target of the pureblood. A shame only in that her lack of connection to the force meant that she couldn't simply enjoy the fruits but instead withered on the outside, clung to memory, which spilled like an overturned glass.

Flicking in the dark came forth a memory of that fateful day filled with fear and chaos as the walls collapsed all around them. The then Acolyte faced off against the then knight, boasting impressive power and skill, seeking the same artifact for strikingly different reasons. But after the shortest of melee, the knight towered over the other victorious with bated breath. If not for the impending doom that was ruptured by the room.

A cascading crash left the pureblood piled under rubble, and in the dimmest light stood a hooded figure to pull her withered body to safety. "..be worthy, or .. madness, you .. live. Chained .. failures and forever burdened ... proof." The broken Sith language Kalique knew revealed the gist of what was said to the woman, although missing some elements.

But in learning of this memory and confirming who she was, she inadvertently revealed more than intended as a flash of pain seared the pureblood's heart. Though part of other memories, Kalique would only see the pureblood standing in the dark as her emotions ran high. The death of a friend, stained at the hands of another. A complicated whirlwind of emotional connection and lust, drowning in emotional drought, but finding no refuge but in her arms.

The cataclysmic sensation rocked her mind, body, and soul next. A potent and unnatural schism coarse and meticulously driven plied the force from her body, inch by inch. Each strand of her was torn apart from its connection to the force, an empyrean crime if there ever was one. Cursed and shamed, the vessel lost her name and purpose except for what she made of her own.

Thrown to the wind for the jackals to feast.

But in each passing glimmer of memory, the terrified mother, standing alone and afraid in the darkness, fought for her composure. With the months that continued, with only her hand to secure the future, she pushed. Bit by bit, brick by brick, she fought and built a legacy from scratch to pass on to her son.

The pureblood woman looked at Jon with an amused smile. "They'll probably be on break right now, but there's a waiting room back here." She nodded back toward a door they'd passed by. Assuming they would, Nevi would show them the route there in her waddling ways. "Your first, I take it?" She offered some casual conversation, unsure of where to direct it.

Kalique was overly grateful as Jon immediately jumped into action and started occupying her mind while she dove right into it. There was no resistance, no reluctance, just nothing but free access. However, as she started navigating through the labyrinth of memories, it seemed like instead of clarity, there was plenty of uncertainty, chaos and scattered remnants of a past long gone.

Moments later, Kalique found herself back in the ancient underground temple, watching her younger self from a foreign pair of eyes. It was fierce determination that glared at her own mirror image, before said mirage struck her down. The walls then started collapsing, burying the clear line of sight underneath debris and ruble, before scrambled words of ancient Sith pierced her current mind.

Blinking, Kalique quickly tried to comprehend while a sudden, piercing pain prodded at the back of her head. Immediately, she began to retreat, pulling back out of the other's head, however right as she did so, she stumbled through more loose threads. Failure, betrayal, pure agony. Hatred, anger. The striving for retribution. Yet fear, hopelessness, despair and this terrifying emptiness that resulted from solitude. The power she had formerly built him, suddenly got taken from her. Everything just raced by in a few seconds.

A faint gasp escaped her as he snapped back into reality, her gaze finding Jon's with a hint of bewilderment swirling through the golden flecks that suxdenly mingled in her green eyes. That woman... it was her. The certainty didn't help her right now as what kept her own mind occupied were the countless chapters that had apperently followed after their first meeting in that cave.

The pureblood across from her was nothing like the Sith she had met back then now though. Having witnessing that terrifying moment of her having her connection to the Force severed still echoed through her mind. She was no immediate threat. She did at least have that certainty, but the rest was just chaos.

She found herself walking alongside Jon, her hand grasping his arm. Her gaze finally focused back onto the woman and despite her racing mind, she forced herself to a soft smile. Didn't she recognize her?! "It is...what about you?". What the kriff was going on... "Thanks for your help...you're probably glad this is over soon?", she continued the conversation, trying to get her thoughts back into order. She had to know more.
