Time was never as inevitable as it was on two occasions. Both are on opposite ends, where life began and ended, and time came for all. The ushering in of new life was supposed to be a joyous occasion, the wards were full of such couplings sharing a new bond. One that was far greater than the one they had already established. It was one thing to promise to each other, but entirely different when you made promises to the tiny being caught in your arms whose existence lay at the crossroads of endless opportunities.
But that fairytale ending was nothing but a mirage for some expectant mothers. Whether by accident, betrayal, or the fear of the unknown, scores of babies were born to single parents who otherwise were alone.
Nevizkas groaned as the doctor made yet another series of rounds, seemingly unphased at the impressive workload they still had to achieve that morning. For the Pureblood it was agony, while she was within the healthy period where the baby could arrive, so far nobody seemed in a rush to leave their nice and comfy home. This of course meant a longer stay, and more miserable walks down to the vending machine in the cafeteria. It wouldn't have been so bad had her entire body seemed to swell like a bloody balloon, her shoes barely fit, and clothing options were completely ruined leaving her with little choice but to wear maternal outfits.
If that wasn't embarrassing enough, it felt like she was waddling like a penguin every time she made the trek. But all the embarrassment in the galaxy went out the window every time she felt the little squirt moves and kicks. She was both terrified and excited at the prospect of motherhood. What the future might hold for was never set in stone, until she could reconnect with the force and find her place, she couldn't be certain that she would be there for him. That's why she had spent considerable time during the better months preparing for his arrival, squirreling away long-term assets and future income that he could rely upon if she wasn't there to raise him.
