The attack breached the barrier and knocked Param off her feet. At least she hadn’t been sent flying though. “I’m sure you will get it this time,” he said, in an attempt to reassure her. Whilst he could maintain an appearance of civility, the lack of genuine emotion was obvious in such situations.

He unleashed a second push, aimed at knocking Param off her feet again.

Param was ready this time. She wouldn't let any of his push through. When his hand raised to execute the attack, Param raised her own left hand again, channeling more Force into it this time. The barrier she created was larger than the last, more powerful. Instead of a shimmer in the air, the barrier was plainly visible. The push from her master smashed into it, but deflected away into the air and dissipated.

She lowered her hand when the attack was over, returning it to the hilt of her still ignited lightsaber. A smile creeping on her lips. She'd done it. Took quite a bit of her willpower and Force pool, but she'd done it. The excitement built until she couldn't contain it. Disengaging her lightsaber, Param leaped into the air, arms outstretched with a beaming smile. "YES!"

This time she succeeded. She had learnt quickly. But things were only just beginning. Thel couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow when Param jumped for joy. My master wouldn’t have tolerated that. He didn’t say anything though. She was allowed to enjoy the moment.

What followed was a short but intense training session. He tested Param’s new-found skills. She would be forced to work hard to defend herself from his attacks. When it finally ended, he’d allow her a short break. He remembered the long, dreary training sessions he was subjected to when he was an acolyte. The mind could only take in so much information. Shorter and more intense sessions were better.

You have done well, my apprentice.” He looked out over the vast plains, towards the forest in the distance, before turning back to Param. “I think it’s best I make clear how things will work. You are my student, not my servant. You will still retain your independence. I will allow you to choose a place on this planet where a small home can be built for you, if you wish. I will also seek to obtain a ship for you and any other necessities you might want,” he explained. “If you follow my teachings, you will fulfil your potential. I can assure you of that. However, know this” He paused for a few seconds, before raising his left hand. Param would feel the force coil tight around her body, specifically the neck, and she would be lifted from the ground slowly as she choked. He had held back in the training session and was now utilising his full power. There wouldn’t be anything she could do to resist. “If you betray me or compromise my operations in any way, I will kill you without a second’s hesitation,” he stated bluntly. He was eerily calm, despite what he was doing. He released his grip, allowing her to breathe, and then dropped her to the ground. “Remain loyal, and you will be well rewarded.

He gestured for her to follow, as he turned to leave. There would more training soon. However, he had heard rumours about Zorya’s supposed return. That would need to be looked into soon
