Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. Time... is the one thing that none may escape. And yet, I did, and through that tunnel I did travel, trapped inside of a cold steel coffin, my only companion the memory of laughter, the faint reminiscence of a hug shared among friends, the gentle tap of helmet against helmet. A warrior though I may be, and unconquered on the field of battle, time is the one enemy that I have fallen to. Its rough sands have worn away my past, ground it into a fine dust that is wholly unknown to the modern age. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. I know not why... I was chosen for the task, nor why I stepped up when called upon. Why I, among all my brothers and sisters, was the future-bound hero, sent through time to save our people from certain annihilation. When the ground is naught but slag beneath our feet, when life itself is hanging from a single thread, one man is sent to save all. Though an accomplished fighter I may have been, there was little reason to select me from the others, to single out I, a simple man. Perhaps it was my devotion to the creed that binds us all together. Maybe it was the honor with which I always fought, or even the mercy I showed to those who deserved it. I know not their reasons, but the result remains the same. I am a man out of my own time, a knight without his dragon to slay, a soldier with no captain.Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. My people... are gone... it is with all my strength that I hold myself together....Scattered across the stars, we are broken, shattered. Honor is without home, and is found sparingly, in so few hearts. The magnificence of battle, the truth of the old ways must be spread once more, and none but the righteous will be allowed to live. My time spent alone, with nothing but my thoughts, has hardened me. My soul shall bear the burning light of a thousand stars, cleansing those who have forgotten, cherishing those who have remembered. My blade will shear evil's hands from its wrists, so that it may never do wickedness again. My arrows will pierce the hearts of sinners, and only the just will be spared my glorious wrath. Beware, for justice once more treads the sea of the gods. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. |
