Acelyn Rend

“It’s hard working for an Empire with harsh rules and cruel punishments for those who fail… What makes it harder is the fact that it’s run by people who have a power you can’t possibly consider possessing- the force.” –Acelyn Rend

“Get the systems up and running, and be quick about it! As long as they’re down, we’re extremely vulnerable! The rest of us will try to hold them off as long as we can,” I watched the woman shout orders. She looked like me, but there was something different about her. She had more of a sense of purpose then I ever did.

Every night it’s the same dream. I dream of the woman, taking up arms against whatever foe she was facing. I see a woman with her comrades, fighting to the very end. And every single night, the dream ends when the ship she is on explodes to flames, and plummets into the oceans of some foreign planet, and I can’t explain it.

But this dream has something to do with my memory. I don’t even remember my past, other than one part of my life, and it all looked very similar to this dream, and it had to be connected to it, some way, somehow.

I just hope one day I’ll be able to explain it all, because right now it's just one big mess I have to worry about when my head hits the pillow every night. I might even be able to look forward to getting some sleep if it wasn't for the same damn dream.

Acelyn looked up, her eyes bloodshot, and her hands mangled and torn. Someone was shining a flashlight in her already irritated eyes, coating the mangled pupils with a light that had kept Acelyn frozen and stiff.

“What is your name?” The question buzzed around the woman’s ears, going in and out as if her brain was trying to decipher what was real and what wasn’t. Acelyn couldn’t see that far in front of her due to the unreasonably light flashlight, though she could just barely make out two sillouhettes, staring down at her, mocking her, as if to say “We can do whatever we want with you.” But, could they really?
“What is your name?” It was then the question pierced into the woman’s skull, leaving a mark there as if forcing her to cough up a reasonable answer.

“Acelyn Rend,” the woman had said, her voice as dry as the deserts of Tatooine. She paused, as if trying to indeed assure herself that that was really her name. “My name is Acelyn Rend.”

“Good, we got that covered.” It was then that the woman named Acelyn could faintly make out the twitch of a muscle on one of the aces, one of her interrogators faces… It was a smile.

“What do you last remember?” The deep voice had further irritated Acelyn’s ears, causing them to rumble with dissatisfaction, as if asking the man to stop asking questions, though she knew that she wasn’t in any position to request anything at the moment.

“I remember the ship being badly damaged. We had crashed to the surface of Manaan during the siege, and I remember a rescue crew getting sent out just in time to save me… Was I the only survivor?” Acelyn's last words had barely stuttered out of her mouth.

“We’re the ones asking the questions here,” the man shot back only a second after Acelyn had questioned him. It was as if he was trying to bring her down, and show her that he indeed was the boss, not her. And every bit of it was true. After silence had engulfed the room for well over a minute, the man continued. It was unknown why he waited, maybe he was expecting Acelyn to snarl back in her own defense? “Do you remember why you were there?” The man pressed on.

What was the point of all of this? Acelyn though. Acelyn refused to admit it0 but she knew something was wrong with her. She had lost her memory in some way, shape, or form. She shouldn't be worrying about how it was lost, though, she should be worrying about how to get it back.

“Well…” Acelyn began. “I was there as an Imperial Captain, helping the Sith Imperium take out any resistance from the planet, but then I remember them making a huge comeback, whoever they were, and next thing I knew my ship was spiraling towards the surface.”

“So you do remember, good. You must have hit your head pretty hard down there, am I right?”

“No sir,” Acelyn responded, though she didn’t even know if he was a higher rank than her. Just to be sure, she had added in the sir, though.

“Well, if you’ll come with me, I need you to take some tests, you know, make sure you’re alright in the head. You understand, right?”

“Yes sir.”

It was then that the binds holding Acelyn down were lifted, and she was allowed once more to move freely. “Well, let’s get to it,” the man said as he walked out of the room with a wave of his hand, expecting her to follow him, off to go take some tests in some strange laboratory, most likely.

Just as the man took his final steps out of the door, the lights flickered on, allowing Acelyn to get a real glimpse at the man’s backside. He was wearing a laboratory coat, most likely a scientist of sorts.

Acelyn’s eyes snapped open. She wasn’t sure where she was, or how she got there, and last thing she remembered was walking out of a room much like this one. What had happened since she was gone?

“I’ve got some bad news for you, girl. After analyzing your tests, The Imperium finds your head injury to be to serious to let you continue to serve as a Captain. We have decided to forfeit your rank in the Imperial Navy, and you will now be considered as a Private. Sorry.”

Acelyn didn’t even remember taking the tests. That’s the first thing that cropped into her mind, but then the news fully hit her.

“What?!” Acelyn shot back, bolting up out of her chair, though as if expecting this, the man stepped forward, pushing Acelyn back down into the chair. “This isn’t fai- oomf.” She wasn’t able to finish before he body had crashed onto the seat.

“Once again, I’m very sorry this had to happen, my condolences, really. You still hold the rank of Private in our military, however, if that helps. You may start your career back up whenever you feel, if you feel the need to.”

With that, the man was gone, and Acelyn had her whole life in front of her. She didn’t remember anything about her past, and she intended to figure it out. For now, though, her only hope was to stay true to the Imperium military, and fight with them to bitter end. Then, maybe, just maybe…

She could find out where she really belonged.

Oooooo.

I like her. (:

A really good read! It shows her personality and background perfectly and sets her up for the time-skip right there, no need to revise anything.

Great job!

Acelyn isn't really a guard, for that isn't her role in the NSI. Her job is to assist Admirals on various fleets during skirmishes in space, she wasn't meant to be a guard. Sorry, I'm gonna have to decline your offer. Thanks though! (:
