Kaleb found work and religion in the Outer Rim Territories. While working the cortosis mines on Apatros to stay alive, he fell in with a group of fanatics, Neo-Imperials who idealized the First Order, its mysterious leader Snoke, and its dark knight, Kylo Ren. Delving deeper into the Shadow himself, Kaleb found himself enamored by Kylo Ren, especially when he realized he possessed the dark knight's power: the ability to move objects with his mind — a power sharpened by his anger and feelings of abandonment. Soon, others came to feel him through the Shadow. Led by a Devaronian named Myr, who had heard of him through the First Order fanatics on Apatros, a group calling themselves the Knights of Ren approached the young human about joining and pledging himself to serve the Shadow and the great Ren. Fueled by a desire to learn about his Shadow, and by his obsession in Kylo Ren, Kaleb eagerly accepted; but the cost of admission was steep.
To fulfill his destiny and entwine it forever with the Ren, Kaleb returned home to Naboo to confront his father one last time. Their confrontation, loud with yelling, soon drew the other members of Kaleb's family. Taking the advice of Myr, Kaleb allowed himself to be given over to the Shadow, and murdered his father in cold blood. Possessed by the Shadow, he then turned on the remainder of his gathered family for abandoning him to his father's abuses. In the ensuing fight, Kaleb murdered his mother, his older sister, and his two younger brothers, though his jaw was maimed by the family's kath hound before he could kill it too.
It was there, over the shattered remains of his family, that Kaleb Flynn died. The Shadow provided him a new name to mark his service to the Ren: Adenn Ren. And it was under this new name that he returned to the Knights, encasing his face wound within a half-mask, and embraced his new family. His new family taught him about his Shadow—taught him to use it—and thus he remained ignorant to the larger forces behind the Knights of Ren, content merely to serve the Shadow wherever it sent him.

To that end, and following in the footsteps of the Knights who came decades before him, Adenn Ren answered the call of the Shadow wherever it went. He pledged himself to fight its battles, preserve its tools, and eat whatever it sent him. Unlike many seasoned dark-siders, such as the Sith Lords who came before, Adenn never learned to fully divorce himself from his past. Though he suffered no guilt from the murders of his family, he continued to be haunted by their abandonment and rejection. He frequently used these painful memories to fuel his connection to the Shadow and his desire to serve the Ren. Thus, while he was typically apathetic, displaying only a dry sense of humor on occasions, he was often prone to brief but intense bouts of insane rage during which he was at his strongest.
Though technically part of the Sith Eternal cult—though he knew nothing of the cult proper and only thought himself a member of the Knights of Ren—Adenn Ren had no attachments to the ancient Sith beyond a surface-level appreciation of them as servants of the Shadow. He cared little about visiting their former worlds or collecting mementos of their Order, though he was not above delving into their archives or holocrons if there was something to be learned about the Shadow within them. As a Knight of Ren, he was utterly fearless to the point of recklessness, had little qualms with killing, and openly despised those who would impose what he saw as the "tyranny of governance" upon the galaxy, believing every being should be free to pursue their Shadow. To this end, a real rarity in the Sith Eternal, he openly despised both Darth Sidious and Darth Vader, whom he saw as the personification of those beings who sought to impose their will—rather than the Shadow's—on the galaxy. He was quick to level his disdain at those who supported them.

As one of the Knight of Ren, Adenn wore his lower-face mask along with a dark version of a typical Jedi Knight's robes. These black robes featured a hood, which was frequently pulled over his head, a metallic utility belt, and a long-sleeved undershirt with black gloves. The sleeves of his undershirt were frilled and appeared like black bandages wrapped tightly around his arms. The mask itself enabled him to speak, though his voice was always partially mechanical as a result, enhancing the fearsome visage it gave to him.

Instead, he mostly used the dark side for telekinesis, which he showed a great deal of aptitude for, either for its more well-known uses or to strangle his foes through the Force. He also had an innate ability for Psychometry, though he was poorly trained in how to control it and thus had to be careful when touching objects with a storied past. Perhaps connected to this ability, Adenn was also skilled in searching the minds of others for information he desired. However, because was crude in his use of the Force, he was always at risk of rupturing his targets' minds during the interrogation process.
What Adenn Ren was most skilled at was his ability to wield a lightsaber. He was one of the few Knights of Ren who chose to openly wield a lightsaber, though he did not use the same bloodshine blade as other Sith cultists and indeed the Sith themselves. Instead, Adenn's weapon—which he named "Ren," in the same way that some previous Knights had with their own lightsabers—possessed a blood-orange blade. Adenn preferred fighting with his lightsaber and only used the dark side of the Force as a supplement to his martial skills. As a result, though he was crude with the Force, he was one of the Knights more skilled physical fighters and he had the physical strength to back up his swordplay.
Finally, a skill he picked up after joining the Knights of Ren, Adenn Ren was a decent pilot and often was seen in the cockpit of his starfighter. One of the few things he was known to enjoy were dogfights and exploring space in his ship. He spoke Galactic Basic Standard, but knew no other languages or trade tongues.
