Seeking, needing, living perfection—rooted deep in my soul as all the rest flies away like ash in the wind. What is this purpose? What is this thing I seek, beating faint, nearly within reach, yet never obtainable? How can such a thing drive me so with every step, with every breath—can I not cry for insurrection from this eternal task?! Continuous confusion, birthed bedlam: I toss and squirm. It moves inside of me, growing, festering, conquering. I cannot rest but for another change. Give me salvation, I cry, an end to my misery. Oh, woe. Woe! It is a fire burning dark inside me, a cradled god emerging. Am I the answer, the true solution to the infinite conflict, or is that the illusion that rules my sight?
That memory I cannot forget, the first dream of my ailment. A warrior climbing above a mountain, his body knowing only sweat and tumbled stone. My face groaned, my limbs shattered, blood burning my veins. I looked up: me, the warrior. Beyond the dreamy clouds lay wasteland, beasts writhing together. They fought a war that couldn't be won. A tear scorches my eyes, I cannot move. What is this thing I feel? I wish I could remember. But it was already gone.
