The Quraic Republic, commonly known as simply 'Al-Quras', is a planet located in P11, southwest of Ruusan and 30 parsecs thereon distant from the nearest habitable star system. The origin of human civilization on Al-Quras is a mystery, as most written records dating back to the planets founding were destroyed in cultural purges. The planet has developed a deeply religious culture, focused around a nexus of Light Side force energy which was once the site of the Alkinanan Temple. The world is currently blockaded by local Imperial security forces and is in a state of planet-wide insurgency. History It is unknown when the first humans settled Al-Quras, although geological studies suggest that the planet was barely habitable at the time of colonization. Extensive terraforming has done little to change the fact that the planet is largely arid. Written record prior to the Hutt Empire of 25,000 BBY is unavailable, due in part to Hutt neglect of the system as well as to later factors. The early planetary government was largely defined by tribal politics, but eventually was consolidated under the mystic religious order known as the Alkinanan Ma'badid (Quraic for Templar) a non-Force sensitive religious movement focused around the Light Side sacred site of the Alkinanan Temple. The Ma'badid unified planetary politics and spread their religious beliefs across the planet in a movement that coincided with a bloody and ruthless purge of planetary corruption and hedonism. The Ma'badid theocratic government became fat and corrupt on its own right, however, and was soon dominated by the politics of three major families: the Jarish, Farisid, and Ghulamid. These families eventually gained such prominence within the Ma'badid order that they became the effective government, reducing the role the order played in galactic politics to that of a simple representative of the three families. As is to be expected of such a position, turnaround was high as representatives were often assassinated in inter-family disputes. The Ma'badid order often chose a stance of neutrality in international politics, choosing to avoid becoming embroiled in foreign wars. This changed prior to the Clone Wars, when the Quraic Republic sided with the Confederacy of Independent Systems in order to prevent the Republic from imposing harsh economic penalties on Quraic merchants who held great influence and empowered the families. The CIS' defeat in the Clone Wars resulted in a brutal occupation by Palpatine's forces. The influence of the families greatly deteriorated and the Imperial government imposed a new government on Al-Quras, but the governor soon recognized the benefits of a moderate path and elected to maintain many of Al-Quras' cultural beliefs in order to maintain stability within the system. The Battle of Endor resulted in instability for the Empire, and the Imperial Remnant went through a period of instability, where logistics and resupply operations became difficult. The Imperial governor of Al-Quras seized the opportunity to betray the Empire and establish his own government. The move was largely unpopular and resulted in a popular uprising - separated from resupply routes, the Imperial garrison surrendered to the Quraic rebels, who in turn pledged their planet to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The planet drifted out of the international limelight following this; it's astrographic insignificance meant that it was all but strategically unimportant, and the families soon restored themselves to power. By 680 ABY a new, pan-Quraic nationalist movement swept across the planet and rebelled against the families, whose decadence offended the religious sensibilities of many Quraic people. The new social movement, known as the Buradite movement, catalyzed society. The Buradites quickly established themselves as secular nationalists, and the religious remnant of the mystic Ma'badid order regained importance and fought against the Buradites with pen and gun. The cultural upheaval resulted in a deeply divided society, and by the time of the collapse of the Empire and the rise of the New Sith Imperium, the planet was in a state of cold war, with both sides preparing for a seemingly inevitable clash. The collapse of the Galactic Alliance, retreat of the Jedi, and occupation by the Imperium was all executed swiftly. The new Imperial governor chose to make an example of the Light Side worshiping Ma'badid and laid waste to the Alkinanan Temple. The destruction of Al-Quras most holy site sparked a planet-wide insurgency, with more than a thousand militant groups, both Ma'badid and Buradite, taking up arms against their Imperial overlords. The resulting insurgency has divided the planet across ever changing fronts and left millions dead; were it not for the Imperium's needs to harvest the resources of the world it would have been laid to waste long ago. Geography With an axial tilt of 13°, Al-Quras lackes a wide variety of biomes, with the existing biomes on the planet relying more on altitude that latitude to determine their geography. The planet is comprised of one supercontinent, with more than 60% of the world being land. The majority of the planet is arid or semi-arid, though temperate regions do exist as well in particularly mountainous regions near the coast. The deserts are mixed between those dominated by ever crawling sand dunes as well as vast, parched and cracked landscapes. Satellites The planet has no notable satellites, and thus no tidal influences to impact the planets oceans. This therefore means that there is no noteworthy life in Al-Quras' seas, and that no life can be sustained in them save for algae. Government The Imperial occupation government has established its capital in the planets second largest city, known as Ar-Raam. Other notable Imperial power centers include Ishak and Quleima. The Moff responsible for the planet, Moff Zaq Picus, is an intolerant and brutal man who was responsible for issuing the initial order to crack down on the Mu'badid, perceiving the religious order as a potential Jedi cult. Highly unpopular, Moff Picus has numerous body doubles and has established, if nothing else, a resilient government in Ar-Raam. Economy The economy of Al-Quras is focused around the production of electronics, taking advantage of the worlds clean waters and large-scale glass production. Beyond this specialization, the world also exports spice, radioactive minerals, and allegedly kyber crystals used in lightsaber manufacturing, though the families - less prominent but still influential - have hidden any production away from the prying eyes of both the Jedi and Sith. Still, supplies of kyber crystals still reach the black market and fetch significant prices for the rebels. Culture Al-Quras culture is ancient and has changed significantly over the many millennia. Originally impoverished people struggling to survive the brutal deserts and limited mountainous regions, their buildings were built sturdy and tough when possible. This early architectural style is still influential on modern palaces. Many cities are dominated by ancient fortifications, though they have little practical role since the introduction of air and space superiority following Al-Quras' joining the Republic. Water, though plentiful, is often also a precious commodity. The worlds oceans have a significant salt content, and fresh water resorts built on luxurious oases have become quite popular among the wealthy and foreign elite who live on the planet. Technology Al-Quras is a modern Galactic world with no exceptional technology. Notable Places WIP Notable People
