How long would it take for a child to become proficient in using the force powers of.. Don't know what it's called that gripping thing (In extension to chocking), lightning, speed and jump? (I feel dumb for asking, but I don't want to assume a time.)

Hi! The Sith Imperium has published a breakdown of the powers that a Sith could learn, and at what rank.

The short and sweet part is speed and jump are part of your core powers, any entry-level force user would have an understanding of them and be able to use them to some extent.

Force grip, choke, and lightning are more advanced. The Sith don't allow their usage by a Force User until Crusader level. Your character might know the theory behind how they work, but he/she wouldn't be able to use them. At least, not without things going very, very wrong.

Oh, are indie force users restricted from these as well?

No, indie force uses don't need to follow the the Sith's guidelines.

Nonetheless, you have to remember that despite being an Indie force user, you can't just have the best force users just because you aren't in a main faction.

Nope. Though it will be hard for your dude to learn new powers or advance quickly without a proper mentor. The unfortunate fact about going Indie is that your character doesn't have all those resources a Sith, or Jedi might have. So your guy isn't going to be able to advance beyond the rank of Knight/Crusader.

The Sith guidelines are for members of that faction. However, an untrained, or barely trained indie FS would probably have an extremely hard time controlling force lightning. He'd probably do more damage to himself than his target.

Yeah, I won't do that, having the best does not interest me.

If you want to join an Indie faction, give the Dark Jedi of the Bogan a look. Green Ranger is the Bogan FL, he can answer your questions if that interests you. I believe the Cartel might have an active FS character in their ranks still. But yeah, ask around and see if anyone who has an Indie FS would like to do an RP with your dude, that sounds like it would be an easy way of getting your PC situated.
