And just curious, since this is a different time period then I am use to what would the soldiers be like? Would they be like clone troopers and stormtroopers or something completely different that I would need to research for a character?

Well, just look up the proper military faction and you should get an idea of what the troops would be made up of. As far as I can tell, people are recruited openly in a time of war.

The military seems a little less clone/storm trooper and more Navy SEALs. Less blaster and heavy armor technology, more slugthrowers and semi-traditional warfare. At least that's my take on it.
